Thank you for making our stay easier and more enjoyable! We used the Lisbon Card, saw 17 must-see places, went to Porto winery and did many other things. We also used the Navegante card!

Thanks for this amazing video Tony! One question does the card guarantee skip the line at the ticket office? Been worrying about long lines especially at the Monastery and Belem tower
Hi Ian, we have an update on the Lisboa Card here ruclips.net/video/mAOnlXe1iKs/видео.html The Lisboa Card grants that you will skip the ticket office line (with the exception of the Belem tower and the Castle where there is a special line for Lisboa Card holders). But if there are lines to enter the building, you will have to wait, in the same way those who prepaid tickets bought online will have to wait too.
Hi Tony! We are in Porto, on our way to Lisbon today. We will buy the Lisboa card for myself and my wife (2 adult tickets) but not for our children. The reason is most of the attractions we plan to visit are free for children (e.g. Belem Tower and the Jeronimos monastery). My question is: with the Lisboa card I assume we do not have to line up to purchase tickets? What about for our children - they will not have a Lisboa card, so do they need to “purchase” entry passes for zero cost, in order to enter. If so, how do we do that? Thank you for your help!!!
Hi Francis. In the case of free tickets for children, they may be issued when the kids are accompanied by a paying adult, you would need to read the requirements for each attraction. In that particular case, we would not advise you purchase the Lisboa Card and you would have to the ticket office queue in each of the attractions. All the best.

We didn't use the card for discounts in shops but the shops taking part in the program probably display a sign outside. You get a brochure with all the details.

I will be in Lisboa from Dec 25-30, and since the first day is typically a not as productive due to the arrival and settling, i am concern of buying a 3 days pass [Lisboa Card] and lose a day. Wondering if I can pick up the card somewhere in the city instead of the airport. I want to active it the second or third day since i have plans to take my wife and kid to Fatima on a day trip on the 26. Your thoughts?
Hello family, the Lisboa Card is activated the moment you use it for the first time, not the moment you exchange the voucher. Even so, you can exchange the voucher at the main tourist offices in the centre of Lisbon as well. All the best.
The Viva Viagem (now called Navegante) provides transport. The Lisboa Card provides transport and free access to attractions. See our update here ruclips.net/video/mAOnlXe1iKs/видео.html
You mentioned that the tourist office at the airport to obtain the card with your voucher. Are there other locations in Lisbon for the tourist office? We will be in Lisbon for 6 nights. We want to go to Sintra and Douro Valley on day trips. Since we will be there for 6 nights, we are going to try to coordinated the day trips with days without predicted rain. If we purchase the voucher prior to leaving will we have some place to activate the card other than the airport? We will be in Lisbon Nov. 18 to 24th. I believe that this is a time period where rain happens fairly frequently.
Hi George, you can exchange the voucher at the main tourist offices in the city, there is one at Praça do Comércio in the heart of Lisbon. The Douro Valley is not a feasible day trip from Lisbon, it is done from Porto.
I will be arriving in Lisbon by train, not at the airport. It looks like there are a lot of tourist offices around the city (including at some of these attractions), so would that mean you can buy the card at any of those offices?
You can pick up your Lisbon Card at the following locations: Lisbon Airport Arrivals Terminal: 7:15 am - 9:30 pm Terreiro do Paço Tourist Office (Praça do Comércio): 10 am - 6:30 pm Centro Tejo (Estação Fluvial Sul e Sueste, Praça do Comércio): 10 am - 1 pm and 2 pm - 6:30 pm Centro Interpretativo da Historia do Bacalhau (Praça do Comércio): 10 am - 6:30 pm Cais do Sodré Tourist Office: 10 am - 1 pm and 2 pm - 6:30 pm
Hello, Francis, you could, but we don't feel it's a good use of the card. It gives you discounts to some attractions, not free access. We think the card is better used in Lisbon itself when you visit attractions free of charge. All the best!
One more question regarding the Lisboa card. I was reading Rick Steve's Portugal travel book and he stated that the Lisboa Card "is unnecessary if you're a student or senior, for whom most sights are free or half-price". Do you feel this is an accurate statement? My wife and I are both seniors. Thank you again for your feedback. I really appreciate it.
Hi Steven, I would say that principle applies to almost any attractions card in the world. You need to check the monuments you intend to visit, calculate the discounted rates you would have to pay, and establish whether the purchase of the card is worth it or not. Do remember there are no discounts in the public transport for seniors (the Lisboa Card includes a transport pass). All the best!
I'm currently planning my trip for May and this video is super helpful. It seems that the Castelo de São Jorge has been added as free with the Lisboa Card, from another website that seems legitimate. But, it doesn't say that from Civitatis. Is there an official website for the Lisboa card?
Hello, we are about to update quite a lot of content on Portugal here in the channel. And yes, the Castle has been added to the Lisbon Card, (we've tested it ourself, there is a fast queue for card holders), turning it into an even better investment. The Discoveries Monument is now free with the Lisbon Card (used to grant you a 20% discount).
Hi Gary, yes, it does. You don't have to go through the ticket office, just join the line of those with an online ticket (at least that was they way it was when we tested the card, first time in the morning we had zero line).
The Lisboa Card covers the local trains and takes you to Cascáis and Sintra. But it's not a good use of the card, as the savings you can make are quite limited.
Hello! I am researching the Lisboa Card and it seems to have many attractive savings. I see many attractions offer you the ability to purchase tickets online ahead of time for hassle free entry and avoiding queues to purchase tickets. How does the Lisboa Card work when you get to the attractions that offer free entry? Do I still have to queue at a ticket office to be able to present my card or do I bypass the ticket office and present the card at the entrance? Does the Lisboa Card save me from queues at free attractions (under the Lisboa Card) or should I opt to purchase tickets online, skip the lines and purchase 24hr metro/bus cards?
Hi, with the Lisboa card you just join the queue of those that have a ticket purchased in advance. No need to go through the ticket office. The only exception being the Torre de Belém where you need to go to the ticket office first (there is a fast queue for Lisboa Card holders) to get your ticket.
Hi Cecilia and Tony, if we plan to go to the Lisbon Oceanarium and pay for the tickets a week in advance. In that scenario, we wont be able to use the Lisbon Card correct? Lisbon Card applies only if you purchase tickets in person? Thanks
With the Lisboa Card you enter most of the attractions directly, no need to get a ticket. Only at the Torre de Belém you need to go through the ticket office first (there's an exclusive queue for it) to validate your ticket.
Hi there, I hope you are fine and happy. My brother and his wife will be visiting beautiful Lisbon from 29 Feb to 04 March 2024 (5 days and 4 nights), could you please let me know which Travel card they can buy at the Airport to use all transport in the city centre area including Airport. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind Regards
Hi, there are several they could buy depending on the use they intend to make of public transport. We talked about them here ruclips.net/video/tI0u1HtMccA/видео.html
I have two questions: Is it possible to purchase two Lisbon Cards at once for a six-day usage, intending to buy two passes per person on the first day? Do you need to reserve tickets online for the Lisbon Card attractions, and is there a risk of not getting tickets on the spot, leading to denial of entry?
Theoretically you could purchase as many Lisbon Cards as you one. The time they are valid for starts counting the first time you use them, not the moment you buy them. With the Lisbon Card you cannot reserve tickets online. You will not be denied entry into the attractions. With the Lisbon Card, and with one exception (Belém Tower) you don't need tickets to enter the attractions.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Hi there, Thank you for your response. I do have a few more questions: Regarding activities with discounts, such as Castelo de São Jorge (or is it just the church?), Sporting Museum, Pena Palace, and Moorish Castle, do we need to make reservations for these attractions? Is it true that the Lisbon Card allows free travel to Sintra? I've heard that the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga and the Benfica Stadium tour are not included in the Lisbon Card. Can you confirm this? Looking forward to your assistance. Thank you!
@@SenneBalus the Castelo is not included in the card (just a church where you have a discount). You cannot make reservations for the attractions included on the Lisboa Card. The Lisboa Card allows free train travel to Sintra. You can check all the attractions included in the card here: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0397/6318/1732/files/Guia_LxCard_Ing_Esp.pdf?v=1680696476
I will be traveling to Lisbon from Porto and not flying into the airport. Is the Lisboa card available in tourism offices in Lisbon and if so where? Also, must it be purchased in advance or overseas before arrival or may one purchase it upon arrival?
The Lisboa Card is available at tourism offices. There is one in Praça do Comércio, in the heart of Lisbon. If you like to spend your money before traveling, you can buy it from home. But you can also buy it once you arrive in Lisbon.
I will give you more realistic calc. 1 day card costs 23 euro. Most people will use it to see Belem and Jeronimo (combined ticket 12 euro) and public transport (worth 6.8). So you use 18.8 euro and are still -4.2. So you need to see one more museum to get even. You will spend most of the day walking, so seeing 3 museums in 1 day is more than enough. That shows you you will get just even with 1 day card. So why to bother with it ? I get impression that card is over promoted ..
If the maths don't work for you, by all means don't get the card. We have shown here how to make substantial savings. We'll be back in Lisbon shortly and will be getting another Lisbon Card to visit some of the places we haven't been to yet. For us, a splendid investment.
@@piadt9588 it depends on the time of the day, the day of the week and the month of the year. When we visited the most popular attractions, first thing in the morning, there were zero queues. But during the high season it can be quite different.
Hola Tony, thanks for the information! Question: When buying the ticket online, the date that I need to select is the day I am collecting the card from the office or the day I'm going to start exploring Lisbon? As I am arriving Lisbon in the evening, hence will only start exploring Lisbon the next day.
Hello Tony.I am interested in purchasing the card in advance but will be arriving into Lisbon in the evening around 21:30. Do you know if the tourist office is open at that time in order to exchange the voucher for the card?
Thanks Tony for your response. If I'm unable to exchange the voucher at the airport because it closes before I can get there, is there a Tourist office in Lisbon that I would be able to exchange it for the card?
You could buy it online and exchange the voucher at the Tourist Office at Plaça do Comércio, not far from the cruise port. Or buy the card directly there.
hello. thanks for the video. I've seen on some sites that there is something called Lisbon citypass. Is it the same as the lisbon citycard? Ah and one more question: can the Lisbon citycard (or citypass) be used to travel to Sintra or Cascais?

Do you think a Lisbon card will be worth it on the day we go to Sintra as well? Also, is there a card equivalent to Lisbon card in Porto? Would appreciate your advice. -EJ from the US-

Hello, Swavely. For us is nearly impossible to intervine in B2C transactions. Hi Tony! I will be in Lisbon soon and I’m looking forward to it. May you clarify the difference between the Lisboa Card and the Viva Viagem? My second question is, does the Viva Viagem also come with the same perks as the Lisboa Card - Free/discounted attractions, etc? I don’t understand which is best?
Hi there, check out our video on public transportation in Lisbon here: ruclips.net/video/tI0u1HtMccA/видео.html You will understand that Viva Viagem is just a holder for your transport tickets. The Lisboa Card is a combo of attraction pass and transport pass.

😂 I am in 50 years long and economist professor at several schools in the Netherlands and with gift cards and travel cards that is mainly that it is a statistical nonsense to buy one because only 5% are put in action so these kind of businesses who give these cards away rely on the majority of a staggering 95% who wouldn’t use them with a public transport card like this and you’re just 12 or three Days there it could be somewhat high. Tony is very clear but also lives and knows there’s one probably very well and comes around very easily but as a tourist and you have the wrong way around the tram or bus down your loss of quite a lot of time we alter your plan during the day you won’t get them out of museums to get the card worth while. 😅 I am 60 and do everything very on ease with a lot of intermediaries just sitting and watching the people so for me I would suggest to take on the public transport card or when the one-way tickets are so cheap what I think it is are then just buy every time a new card or a little subscription with amount of money on it.

Hi Tony, can we use the Lisboa card to pay for the transport to Sinatra and entrance fee to the various attractions in Sinatra?. Thank you
Hello, Francis, you could, but we don't feel it's a good use of the card. It gives you discounts to some attractions, not free access. We think the card is better used in Lisbon itself when you visit attractions free of charge. All the best!
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you so much for your advice Tony
Hi Tony…thanks so much for these informative videos. Does the Lisboa card allow skip the line privileges at Jeronimos Monastery?
Hi Gary, yes, it does. You don't have to go through the ticket office, just join the line of those with an online ticket (at least that was they way it was when we tested the card, first time in the morning we had zero line).
Does the Lisboa Card includes the trains to Cascáis and Sintra?
The Lisboa Card covers the local trains and takes you to Cascáis and Sintra. But it's not a good use of the card, as the savings you can make are quite limited.
Are there other places to collect the cards other than the airport?
Yes, you can pick them up from the main tourist offices downtown.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal excellent. Thank you so much. Your videos help a lot!
Hi Cecilia and Tony, if we plan to go to the Lisbon Oceanarium and pay for the tickets a week in advance. In that scenario, we wont be able to use the Lisbon Card correct? Lisbon Card applies only if you purchase tickets in person? Thanks
Hi Stephen, you are correct, the advantages of the Lisbon Card only apply to on site purchases.
do they have a similar travel pass in Porto?
They do but we do not think it's worth it.
So the Lisboa card is not a ticket in itself to these attractions? I still need to queue to get a (free) ticket even if the Lisboa card?
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you so much. Stay blessed
I have two questions:
Is it possible to purchase two Lisbon Cards at once for a six-day usage, intending to buy two passes per person on the first day?
Do you need to reserve tickets online for the Lisbon Card attractions, and is there a risk of not getting tickets on the spot, leading to denial of entry?
Theoretically you could purchase as many Lisbon Cards as you one. The time they are valid for starts counting the first time you use them, not the moment you buy them. With the Lisbon Card you cannot reserve tickets online. You will not be denied entry into the attractions. With the Lisbon Card, and with one exception (Belém Tower) you don't need tickets to enter the attractions.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Hi there,
Thank you for your response. I do have a few more questions:
Regarding activities with discounts, such as Castelo de São Jorge (or is it just the church?), Sporting Museum, Pena Palace, and Moorish Castle, do we need to make reservations for these attractions?
We are in Lisbon for days and plan to spend one day in Sintra. Is the Lisbon-Sintra card worth it?
We wouldn't use it for the day in Sintra. For Lisbon, as explained in the video, is truly worth it.
Hi Toni.. is Lisboa Card can be used for the Flexi bus from Lisbon to Fatima? Thank you.
Hi John, the Lisboa Card is just for transport within the city of Lisbon.
Thank you so much for that info Toni.
For us, a splendid investment.
do I have to make a reservation before visiting the tower etc.
No, you don't.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal okay then, do i have to wait in long lines to get inside?
@@piadt9588 it depends on the time of the day, the day of the week and the month of the year. When we visited the most popular attractions, first thing in the morning, there were zero queues. But during the high season it can be quite different.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal okay thank you so much
Hola Tony, thanks for the information!
Question: When buying the ticket online, the date that I need to select is the day I am collecting the card from the office or the day I'm going to start exploring Lisbon? As I am arriving Lisbon in the evening, hence will only start exploring Lisbon the next day.
The date you choose when you purchase it is more for statistical purposes. The card only activates the moment you use it for the first time.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal well noted thanks
Does the card allow you to skip the ticket lines?
In most attractions but for the Belém Tower, we you need to get your ticket from the ticket office (there's a fast lane for Lisboa Card holders).
Thank you!
Hello Tony.I am interested in purchasing the card in advance but will be arriving into Lisbon in the evening around 21:30. Do you know if the tourist office is open at that time in order to exchange the voucher for the card?
Hi Steven, the tourist office closes at 22:00, you'll struggle to make it there before it closes.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
Thanks Tony for your response. If I'm unable to exchange the voucher at the airport because it closes before I can get there, is there a Tourist office in Lisbon that I would be able to exchange it for the card?
@@stevenbaker5529 sure, there's one at the Praça do Comércio, right in the center of Lisbon.
How about the Sintra card??
We're not familiar with it.
I am arriving Lisbon from a cruise port where can I buy the Lisboa Card?
You could buy it online and exchange the voucher at the Tourist Office at Plaça do Comércio, not far from the cruise port. Or buy the card directly there.
hello. thanks for the video. I've seen on some sites that there is something called Lisbon citypass. Is it the same as the lisbon citycard? Ah and one more question: can the Lisbon citycard (or citypass) be used to travel to Sintra or Cascais?
Could you show us a site showing the above mentioned Lisbon Citypass? We haven't been able to find it anywhere.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal yes, one moment
Must you print the voucher or can you show it on your phone? You make a good case for the card benefits!
Hi Robin, you need to print it.
Thank you for the video! It is so easy to understand and it seems to be a good use for our upcoming trip to Lisbon and Porto. We plan to spend two days in Lisbon and take a day trip to Sintra. Do you think a Lisbon card will be worth it on the day we go to Sintra as well? Also, is there a card equivalent to Lisbon card in Porto? Would appreciate your advice. -EJ from the US-
Hi Jajen, in our opinion, the Lisbon Card it's not a good investment for the day you'll be in Sintra. There is a card for Porto too, check the details here: www.civitatis.com/en/porto/porto-card/?aid=2167 We will begin publishing our Porto videos from July onwards.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal- Ola Tony, this is a great video and covers valuable info. We have a two and half days in Lisbon soon and would like to visit Sintra in a day. We saw there's a new card called "The Lisbon-Sintra Pass", but still not quite sure if we choose that with a 24-hour pass, will that covers a Friday visit in Lisbon with a Saturday visit in Sintra?
@@doedoeleo5033 we haven't tried or researched the Lisbon-Sintra pass, for that reason we cannot share our experience with the pass or hand out any advice. We like to advise on things we have tried ourselves. 24-hour pass would suggest it is valid from the moment you use if for the first time until 24 hours later.
Hi, Tony! I bought the card from the link you have posted. In the process of trying to change the 3-day card to 2-day, my reservation got cancelled :( I have tried sending them several messages in English to try to undo the cancellation or get a refund with the credit on the site so that I can buy the Lisboa Card again but did not receive a reply. What should I do? Can you help me please? :((
Hello, Swavely. For us is nearly impossible to intervine in B2C transactions. But as far as we know, you cannot change the nature of the card you bought, don't know what you did but if you cancel your existing purchase, you must have received an email with instructions on how to proceed. Refunds are issued right away but your bank might take up to a week to process them.
I got a reply stating that there is no refund and cannot guarantee to reactivate the reservation. Oh well... Thank you for the reply anyway!@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
Is it possible to purchase a Lisboa card once you are already in Lisbon? I forgot to buy one before traveling 😮💨
It is.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal oh thank you 😊 I'll look into it I'm in Portugal right now and hope I can see and experience as much of Lisbon as I can, and your videos have been so valuable ❤️
Hi Tony! I will be in Lisbon soon and I’m looking forward to it. May you clarify the difference between the Lisboa Card and the Viva Viagem? It is my understanding that the Viva Viagem credit may be reloaded at anytime. Where as the Lisboa Card cannot after the time period has expired.
The Lisboa Card is a combo of attraction pass and transport pass.
can't get passed the first ad, all I get is a Viking ad every time I press play
Didn't understand your comment. Don't know what the Viking ad is.
Are you going to Porto?
We've already been to Porto. But the first video won't be ready before August.
Does the Lisboa card give you free access to the Lisbon zoo or discounted???
It gives you 15% discount.
Fogo, les anglais se mettent à nous présenter Lisbonne???
