Appreciate this video bro! Completed this on my 2015 Q50 AWD at 90,000 miles without issues. The fluid was pretty dark but got lighter with each drain. It's been about two weeks since the fluid change & I've gotten an overall feel of how the transmission responded to the fluid change. Previously it would want to hunt for gears, hesitate a bit with downshifts, lazy on manual downshifts & jerky with upshifts. Now it is very smooth, precise, solid shifts, no lazy downshifts or hunting for gears. Would definitely recommend to change the fluid if your transmission is acting up.
great thanks hoping for this on my 15 awd 3.7 today . 123k. it was swapped out at 100k but i just bought it and don’t believe it until i see it. cant hurt right. It’s just been revving up to 4k when i give it a little bit and taking too long to shift…it isn’t very bad but i think I may be able to fix it. i fixed that problem on my taurus sho at 140k by doing a drain and fill. shifts smooth at 180. Other than that car runs like every other G35 G37 i’ve owned with high mileage , great. Cant let anybody drive this car..afraid they’ll put 87 in it lol.
I'm at 35k and I was considering replacing my transmission oil. I've seen first hand neglecting changing AT fluid does to ATs. As you said, even though the manufacturer says the AT fluid is good for the life of the AT some peace of mind doesn't hurt. Great video Zilla.
Putting this out there in case others are going through something similar and want to know what to expect. So I bought a 2015 q50 with 109,000 miles. Just changed the transmission fluid how you demonstrated in video. I know it’s high mileage so a little risky but did it anyway and gonna update this comment in 1 week, 1 month and so on. I Also forgot to switch gears after each drain but that was my fault. I should also mention previous owner never touched the fluid. So this was the first time it got a transmission fluid change ever. On the passenger side of the transmission there is a black hose that runs horizontal to the road. Follow that hose towards the front of the car. It will then bend downward and at the end just below a few inches is a cap that looks like a tiny cooking pot with a bolt that holds the "handle" of the tiny pot/cap down. That's where you fill it from the engine compartment. I have done ir this way twice now.
I did this on my G37 with 250k kilometers on it + remove the ATF pan and clean. The ATF was black as. I will do it on my Q50 which has 62k kilometers on it but without the ATF pan removal. Thanks for posting, looks nearly identical job as the G37.
Hey bro, I just finished doing the VR30 swap on my G37 sedan and your video came in handy for this last part. Thanks for posting and keep up the 🔥 content 😃👍
I had to take my 19 Red Sport to the dealer, since I didn't have power. Infiniti found both turbo's were bad, and had to be replaced. Since the car was there I decided to have my 30K service. I only have 27K, but decided to do the service anyway, since the car is 36 months old. I did the Transmission service. It was $215.94, it says Infiniti used 4 Qts at 13.99 ea., 999MP-MAT00S, so trying to figure out why they only used 4, when you said you used 12. It does say 1QT x 12, so weird. I will call them on Tuesday. Great video.
Your stealership that serviced your Q did a basic drain&fill. Difference here is ZillaFB did what your DS did x4 which is close to a flush without using pressurized ATF from specialty equipment a pro shop or DS would use for a trans flush (not recommended). That does make sense and I did do that based off my GTR’s procedure. I however showed a way another q50 forum member did it. I didn’t want to change it and wasn’t sure it’s necessary for this transmission. I can confirm it didn’t damage anything, so if you’d like to run the gears through after each fill I’m sure it will be fine. In fact, you’ll probably cycle through the fluid more.

That’s a good question. I changed mine when I had I believe like 45-50k miles. It’s working fine. I guess they might consider high mileage 75k-100k miles in todays day and age.
It’s hard to say. They say you shouldn’t completely flush the system with a lot of miles unless you been changing the fluid regularly. I started at 30k miles with this car so I decided to do it and will continue to do it. If your gasket isn’t leaking I wouldn’t drop it. Just change the oil.
Hi Zilla. I followed your instructions exactly and when I went to remove the fill plug adapter a TON of fluid started coming out. I drained 3 times and filled 4 times. Is this normal? Do I need to let the excess fluid drain?
What year is yours? The owners manual says nothing about the fluid being lifetime, it says "only use Genuine Nissan Matic S ATF. Do not mix with other fluids." At least for 2014-15 models.
hey guys, i have a 2017 q50. recently my briother was driving it on the highway and it stopped speeding up. the rpms go up but it stopped shifting. after i checked it out, now when i drive the rpms go up then suddenly it will shift super late. plus it only shifts to maybe like 3rd gear. only can drive up to 40mph then it wont shift, just the rpms going up. it looked like on the front passenger wheel something completely busted and there was a liquid all around it. any ideas on what the problem might be? is it fixable or does it sound like i need a new transmission? sorry for the long comment and thanks for any feed back
Hey, sorry to hear about your car. It's hard to diagnose over the internet. If you have a check engine light I would check that first. If not take it to a dealership or independent Infiniti mechanic that can help find the issue. If you have fluid around your wheel the axle probably went bad. Good luck.
Yea to cycle the fluid. I personally ran through the PRND a few times each drain and fill. I didn’t mention that because that wasn’t on the procedure and didn’t want to be at fault for someone’s tranny failure, but it seemed to work out fine and cleaned out most of the fluid.
@@anthonysantana9193 yea. Just fill it and go for an easy drive. Once up to temp and nothing feels funny push it harder and verify all is ok. If it slips go put more fluid if it’s good then you’re done.
@@ZillaFullBoost okay n by up to temp you mean like when the car is warmed up and I already went through the gears right ? Should I step on it , I do plan to overfilll a quart since I am tuned and I pull hard on the car, I read that’s preferred if you do hard pulls 😭😂
I recommend taking it on a drive and drive normal while going through every get to make sure everything sounds and feels ok before getting on it. Let it get up to temp and after that you’re good to go.
It’s usually not recommended for a high mileage car. However, knowing we lose the valve bodies on these transmissions I’d still do it if the transmission is operating as normal right now.
Good question, to rinse out the older dirtier fluid. I personally ran through the gears a couple times every time I filled it. Wasn’t advised to, but I did it anyway. I didn’t want to recommend it with out knowing if it would mess anything up. So far my trans has been happy so go for it.
I’m confused, so drain and fill 3 quart for 3 total amount of time then the 4th time fill it up to 4 quart and then you’re good? I heard it’s recommended for 5-7 quart am I wrong?
Does anyone know what red liquids could be leaking from my 2018 q50? At first I thought it could be from tranny but its not oily to the touch so I have no idea what it could be. Does anyone know? Could it be power steering fluid?
I have a 2011 Infiniti G37 is it the same process for the g series? Just a drain and fill. I’ve recently bought 5qts of transmission fluid and is it required to do that drain 3qts and refill 3qts?
When it’s a higher mileage car and the transmission fluid has never been changed you typically don’t want to mess with it. Some say it’s ok to just do a change not a flush. The procedure should be the same for all 7 speeds.

@@CA-lp1cb the tech said to let the fluid drain until it's just dripping like Zilla specified in this video. Everything turned out fine.
Yes let it drain
What year is yours? The owners manual says nothing about the fluid being lifetime, it says "only use Genuine Nissan Matic S ATF. Do not mix with other fluids." At least for 2014-15 models.
2016
So is it safe to change at 113k mileage?
Do you fill it with the car on during last fill?
You don’t have to
Could I go to a shop and could they do this?
Yup, should be about 300 dollars more or less.
I did all three brother .thanks for keeping it interesting
Hey brotha, the giveaway passed, but I’ll be doing another soon. Keep an eye out for that one. 😎
Thanks for replying back in a timely manner.
Can I use the same fluid with my 2.0t ? are they sharing the same transmission?
2014 q50 with the 3.7 is it the same transmission?
Took out radiator and one of the lines spilled trans fluid , don’t need to flush just re fill it so how many quarts do I have to use ?
Depends how much came out.
hey guys, i have a 2017 q50. recently my briother was driving it on the highway and it stopped speeding up. the rpms go up but it stopped shifting. after i checked it out, now when i drive the rpms go up then suddenly it will shift super late. plus it only shifts to maybe like 3rd gear. only can drive up to 40mph then it wont shift, just the rpms going up. it looked like on the front passenger wheel something completely busted and there was a liquid all around it. any ideas on what the problem might be? is it fixable or does it sound like i need a new transmission? sorry for the long comment and thanks for any feed back
Hey, sorry to hear about your car. It's hard to diagnose over the internet. If you have a check engine light I would check that first. If not take it to a dealership or independent Infiniti mechanic that can help find the issue. If you have fluid around your wheel the axle probably went bad. Good luck.
What’s up @ZillaFullBoost can I used that Nissan Fluid in my q50 2016 2.0t?
I bought the hyper tough Tool and the threads don’t fit my 2019 Q50 Transmission
It’s not a 100% fit. You can start it by hand until it gets tight. Do not over tighten.
Wait is it actually that complex to change it I can't just drain it and fill it
You can if you want, but you won’t be removing all the dirtier fluid in the trans.
Hello. Will the Yamaha adapter work for a 2012 Infiniti FX35 transmission fluid exchange port?
It’s a 7 speed so yea. Just remember not to over tighten it because it’s not a perfect match.
I'm at 59k miles and its never been changed. Should I change it or is it too late?
I think it’s still ok.
Everytime you drain and refill, do you have to start the car for one minute?
Yea to cycle the fluid. I personally ran through the PRND a few times each drain and fill. I didn’t mention that because that wasn’t on the procedure and didn’t want to be at fault for someone’s tranny failure, but it seemed to work out fine and cleaned out most of the fluid.
Wait so I’m stuck on the last part so when it reaches 104 degrees do I still keep the car on and remove the bolt or do I turn it off ??
Honestly don’t worry about the temp. Just fill it until it comes out the drain hole.
@@ZillaFullBoost so just fill it the last time and can the car be off when I do that ??
@@ZillaFullBoost and also what do you mean fill it until it comes out the drain hole ? You mean the hole im using to fill it up ??
@@anthonysantana9193 yea. Just fill it and go for an easy drive. Once up to temp and nothing feels funny push it harder and verify all is ok. If it slips go put more fluid if it’s good then you’re done.
@@ZillaFullBoost okay n by up to temp you mean like when the car is warmed up and I already went through the gears right ? Should I step on it , I do plan to overfilll a quart since I am tuned and I pull hard on the car, I read that’s preferred if you do hard pulls 😭😂
would you suggest drop the pan and change the filter too?
It’s fine draining and filling the fluid every 30k miles. I haven’t seen anyone do replace a filter yet. Do they even sell the filter?
Not necessary, the filter is a mesh/screen filter, as long as you change the trans oil within 30k to 50k you should be good.
How many miles should I drive after a transmission fluid change ? Before I start pushing on the car ?
I recommend taking it on a drive and drive normal while going through every get to make sure everything sounds and feels ok before getting on it. Let it get up to temp and after that you’re good to go.
@@ZillaFullBoost thank you 🙏
Could you do a video on how to properly jack up q50/60?
might be to short for a video in itself, but ill incorporate it in a future video
I’m at 80k miles. Is this safe or recommended to do at that high mileage?
It’s usually not recommended for a high mileage car. However, knowing we lose the valve bodies on these transmissions I’d still do it if the transmission is operating as normal right now.
How many quarts do I need and capacity of transmission fluid on the Q50
Hey, it’s in the video and the description; 12 QT’s.
@@ZillaFullBoost he was asking what is the fluid capacity of the transmission... We know you used 12 qt.
@@davidarmstrong3022 it's about 7.5 QT's. you don't have to worry about the capacity if you follow the procedure. You replace whatever you drained.
Thanks !!
when i was on the last cycle the fluid was coming out somewhat fast how do you know if you have to much in ?
It’s ok to overfill it
A lot of people will overfill by 1.5 quarts to prevent against fluid cavitation when launching
So is this a flush or a change?
It’s a grey area lol kinda like both. There would still be old oil in the TQ convertor and lines so it isn’t a complete flush.
Big thanks
You’re welcome man
Hey bud, what year infinity was your car?
Hey, 2016
Awesome video brother
Thanks for watching!
why are you draining fresh fluid 3 times.
I ran through the gears each time
So how many quarts in total did you use in replacing transmission fluid?
I used 12 QT’s to flush the old stuff out
Im at 80k should i change my transmission fluid or too late ?
That’s tough normally they say no, but I think you can just do a change and be fine. Just don’t do a flush
Same process for 2014 qx50?
Yup
Why not just remove the entire pan and remove the excess oil, also clean the pan and change the filter.
That's more of a hassle.
Just curious what the point of filling and draining it?
Good question, to rinse out the older dirtier fluid. I personally ran through the gears a couple times every time I filled it. Wasn’t advised to, but I did it anyway. I didn’t want to recommend it with out knowing if it would mess anything up. So far my trans has been happy so go for it.
@@ZillaFullBoost oh okay I’m doing a vr30 trans swap and it only has 8k miles and it was draining for weeks it took 9 quarts of fluid😂
But it was spotless on the inside so I figure I’m good with just leaving it filled
Yea you should be good to go 💪🏽
How much quarts u added for the last refill
Dang it’s been a minute since I did this. I filled what ever I took out. I think it was 3 QT’s. You want to fill it until it’s dripping out.
Do you need to get new crush washers for the transmission drain plug?
It’s good practice to replace especially if it’s deformed. I however reused it and I will replace on my next flush.
@@ZillaFullBoost is it the same washer for the oil changes or different part number?
@@isaiasmeza620 That’s a good question I’m not sure. It might very well be.
Bought my 2021 RS RWD new and it didn't have a crush washer.
I’m confused, so drain and fill 3 quart for 3 total amount of time then the 4th time fill it up to 4 quart and then you’re good? I heard it’s recommended for 5-7 quart am I wrong?
@@littlej3777 correct. Drain 3 fill 3. Last time fill 4.
Does anyone know what red liquids could be leaking from my 2018 q50? At first I thought it could be from tranny but its not oily to the touch so I have no idea what it could be. Does anyone know? Could it be power steering fluid?
Most likely trans. Q’s have electric power steering.
Is this is the same process for a 2015 Q70 3.7 all wheel drive ?
Yup, same transmission but you have a transfer case which I think has its own drain hole as well. If that’s the case then you’ll need a bit more oil.
I did the filter and oil change for my qx70s but it does not do the 3rd and 4th changes, is there any advice that can help me
Where did you buy the transmission fluid?
Link in the description
How much did the oil cost
I think it’s like $140 for all of it. The link is in the description.
How many qurts did you use 🤔
I used all 12.
@@ZillaFullBoost thank you
I have a 2011 Infiniti G37 is it the same process for the g series? Just a drain and fill. I’ve recently bought 5qts of transmission fluid and is it required to do that drain 3qts and refill 3qts?
Yea, what you take out replace.
So no filter?
Nope
Where did you get that mount for the phone?
Magnetic Phone Mount: amzn.to/3tSSvyR
Hey man I’ve got a 2014 3.7 with 75k miles and I don’t think it’s ever been changed. Would it be safe to do so and is it the same procedure ?
When it’s a higher mileage car and the transmission fluid has never been changed you typically don’t want to mess with it. Some say it’s ok to just do a change not a flush.
The procedure should be the same for all 7 speeds.
@@ZillaFullBoost so how would I go about simply changing it ? Would I just drain and fill the first 4 quarts ?
First Drain 3.5 and fill 3qts same steps in the video.
@@ZillaFullBoost and I would just stop at that ? And would I be able to have the car off or would it have to be running ?
@@lordofthehearth2740 follow his steps, he shows exactly how you are supposed to do it. If you don't feel confident take it to the dealer.
So how many quarts do I need in total to do this?
12
Is there a reason why u refill 4 times? Or is it just to make sure old fluid is out?
Trying to drain as much old fluid as I can. I’ll probably do another change like this within the next 5k miles.
@@ZillaFullBoost awesome thanks for the video man saves me a lot of money! Is the oil not hot enought to burn your hand when u take the fill plug out?
Glad I can help people save money! No it’s not hot enough, but id suggest to wear gloves to protect your skin from the chemicals in the oil.
