      Chere Marie-Anne: a bit of fun trivia -- US economists in the 1980s & 90s compared mini lengths to high inflation & midi/maxi lengths to a sound, prospering economy. It seems that the inflation & economic stagnation resulting from the pandemic affected styles to a greater degree than ever in obvious & less obvious ways. Puffers are out but not for skiing. Real fur is warmer than faux. Faux leather clothes, footwear, bags don't really last more than one season depending on wear & don't age well. It's too bloody late to save the planet. If the planet gets warmer, we'll be living in temperature-regulated underground caves without sunlight wearing uniforms designating our socio-economic ranks.
      The most important fact that your video underscores is the cyclical evolution of fashion. What's in next year will be out the year after. And...so it goes! That's why I keep 70% of my clothes as I wait for their return to being in style.

      So... you are telling us that dressing like middle management is "femininity". I mean I suppose it's one kind of femininity. A cute girl(or fine older woman) in a pair of flared leggings and cropped snow jacket will always turn heads tho.

    What wonderful new trends! But here in Finland we have snow from November to mid-April. Yes, it sometimes melts. And sometimes it is so heavy that half of the car is buried. You can’t put on your elegant winter boots! And a thin coat won’t save you if it’s -25, -30. And how strong the wind can be... That’s why a down jacket with a hood, fur-lined mittens and boots with thick soles!

      Scandi style has different requirements than Paris style, right? I love the elegant simplicity of Scandi style too! Here in Massachusetts with climate change, our winters have gotten so much warmer I can get by with a trench coat, maybe with a warm sweater underneath pretty much all winter!

    I was just telling my mom the other day how grateful I am that the feminine styles are coming back. For years I've seen so much, what I would consider, junk in the stores and nothing I would actually wear. It's so lovely to see the longer skirts, silk blouses, jeans with no rips in them, etc. This time around, when all of this goes away again, I'm still wearing it and paying no mind to the trends that will most likely not suit my personal style.

      I can see if you live in a very cold city, and don't have a car, and you're walking long blocks or waiting for buses, some kind of thick quilted long coat would be necessary. I just hate the look of them tho. Like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. I got a "camel hair" tan classic wool coat in 1974 when I went away to college in Philadelphia. I was into 1920s style back then and I've loved classic elements in my wardrobe ever since. I remember in the early '80s, when I was making enough money, I went into Macys instead of a thrift store, and got a long oversized black and white houndstooth coat, which I wore with a black beret, blue wool scarf and red leather gloves. It was the '80s, after all... Lol

    I've been watching your videos for long enough that I am starting to get better at finding alternates in my budget, which is considerably lower than most of the pieces you link. It's not easy, but I am managing. I am very happy about the tailored look. This is best for me, as a classic style is most attractive for my overall appearance. I am at the bottom of the plus size range, which means there are additional problems when clothes shopping. Tailored pants can be very, very difficult for me but they are the ONLY ones which look well on me. For your plus sized ladies, Lands End makes lovely dark wash, tailored-look wide leg jeans, and they come in multiple lengths to reduce the amount of hemming. Also for plus sized ladies, Chicos is friendly to the bottom end of the plus sized range (I think they go up to the 20-24 size, which would be a 4-5 in their sizes). They have lots of great pants including tailored jeans and pants, and wide leg styles, which suit me best. Torrid has good basic T shirts which have some shape to them, and which have V necks, also good for plus ladies. They also tend to have colors which flatter me, as black and white are not good on me. I have yet to find a good soft white T shirt which is NOT ivory or cream, colors I CANNOT wear. Note: Torrid T shirts are too long for me, at 5' 5" tall. One can deal with this by either tucking them in or knotting the hem, or if one is handy with a sewing machine, one can hem them higher. Talbots has some wonderful tailored looks, but I have some difficulty with their colors, especially during fall and winter. I hope these tips are helpful for other French Chic Ladies who are plus sized and still want to create the wonderful looks that Marie-Anne puts together for us.

    • @sandyv2195
      @sandyv2195 Месяц назад +6

      I'm not plus size but appreciate your shopping / vendor tips. Thank you! I'm 5'4" and I, too, find T shirts to be too long, even in petite sizes. And I do sew, but hemming knits is trickier than non-stretch fabrics.

    I am really happy to see the back of most of these. There’s only one exception, leisure wear. I don’t wear it out in the wild, I never liked that trend, but I think they do have a place, inside when I am doing housework or cooking and making a mess of myself. I took spots of colour out of my track pants a few weeks ago cleaning the bathroom. I certainly don’t want to do that to anything nice.
    In Australia wearing white, cream or ivory in winter has been popular for decades. Although it does get cold in winter it’s nowhere near as cold as Europe so it looks good in our climate. Do you remember the beautiful white coat that Kim Novak wore in Vertigo? You see coats like that everywhere here.

    Waxed barn coats!! HA!! I have one and I just put it in a bag to give away. They're actually in style now?! My daughter bought it at a consignment shop some years ago, didn't wear it, then gave it to me. It was useful when I was going on hikes with my puppy; he got so dirty and I had to pick him up. I sometimes wore it for gardening in the spring or fall, but it's usually too hot and bulky. I prefer my hooded anorak for wet days outdoors, or a puffy coat for very cold weather. I think I'd love a beautiful wool coat instead; they never go out of style. I love the pleated skirts; I'm glad they're back in style. I love your videos, thank you!

    Well, here I am after another siege with my ailments that has taken another bunch of pounds off. All my nice new jeans are now loose, but not yet falling down. I was so very happy to see you mention barn coats. I have one from that faithful outfitter, LL Bean. Mine is a nice wine red color with corduroy collar. It has two wool linings, and when. you button in that second lining, you are good to many degrees below zero, even Fahrenheit. I've had it for many years and it still holds up, so I should be in pretty good shape. My capsule wardrobe has made its first transition from summer to autumn with a switch-out of a couple of skirts and linen pants, so I am good to go now that I feel better again. :)

    Depends where you live and your lifestyle. I live in Southern Ontario. I am driving everywhere and long coats are most inconvenient for driving. I do wear long skirts but must pull them up to my knees while driving. Heels are out for me. Booties, biker boots the best as I need to move quickly, walk from parking spots and around plazas and huge food stores, can’t take a chance of a fall. I am totally sick of puffer coats but these are practical. I usually throw a shawl over it. I have some faux fur coats and vests which I am planning to wear regardless of fashion trends. Here nobody cares too much although people dress nicely. I have lots of skirts and will not be buying another one. To be honest, one of the busiest store is Value Village where people look for deals on nice second hand items.

      Never going to happen. People arent suddenly going to start wearing slippery leather soled shoes and flimsy wool coats in the winter. Maybe if Climate Change is real that will happen in 10K years. Not today.

    I missed seeing your posts. I had a red plaid kilt mini skirt when I was 14 years old. Lol. Glad to see the plaids in a longer length. When I was first married I wore my white jeans to a family gathering on thanksgiving and my mom in law said you are not supposed to wear white after labor day. 😮 I continued to wear them, but not around her. Lol. To this day I wear white jeans all year round. ❤

    Loving the new fashion coming through. In Australia a wool coat is enough. Loving the boots and heading back to a feminine vibe. I would probably invest in a good quality waxed jacket as I am retired and lifestyle has changed. Also I have always loved the longer skirts. Hooray. Thanks Marie-Anne.

    Love all the new trends except substituting puffer jackets with wool/barn/waxed coats. I live in an area where it gets -40 degrees Fahrenheit. Wool coats/barn/waxed jackets simply do not cut it for keeping one warm without the weight. I wear a down filled jacket with fleece underneath and it keeps me toasty. Waxed/barn/wool coats simply are not warm enough.

    This is so refreshing! I’m back in style, and yes,…I still have my vintage J. Crew barn jacket from the mid-90s, complete with corduroy collar and cuffs. It is in excellent condition, because it has been lovingly cared for. I prefer to wear it with dark jeans and boots for casual outdoor activities and chores, and it’s roomy enough to layer well if needed to keep me warm. (Hubby owns a similar one from L.L. Bean.) My woolen riding skirts and blazers are also vintage L.L. Bean and Woolrich. I’m excited that my longer pleated tartan and Glen plaid skirts are also back in, especially for the holiday season! Long wool topcoats never went out of style in our home either. (Neither have longer wool sweater dresses.) Riding boots leather gloves, and scarves will be completing the look. What about the two winter subtle tartan plaid crossbody envelope handbags I own? 🤔 Wearing them with solids or grey heather woolens is what I have done in the past, and will probably continue to do. They are such fun! Again, what classic styles. I’m thrilled that they are again the trend this winter.

  • @ΒασιλικήΣίλιαΑρβανίτη

    Yet another great video! Just one point ... sometimes it is not necessarilly the trend (style/look) that is destroying femininity, but rather the inability to do a proper trend-occasion matching ... so, Crocs may look ugly when worn in the city, but OK on the beach. Unfortunately, many women adopt a trend regardless of timing or context

    • @MarieAnneLecoeur
      @MarieAnneLecoeur  21 день назад +1

    I admit I have a couple pairs of lighter washed jeans. I know this is a French chic channel, but in the warmer months, I do coastal chic, so sometimes I wear faded denim shirts, jackets or jeans. However, I wear neat button down shirts, cotton sweaters, linen vests, marinieres, etc., on top, with a nice leather belt and clean sneakers, a woven bag, good jewelry. In winter I do wear dark wash jeans.

    Glad maxi skirts are back in fashion. I have one in my wardrobe I made myself a few years ago. It is in burgundy corduroy (not the fat, furry corduroy, the finer type). My jeans are all indigo/dark blue. I don't like bleached jeans. I did buy a pair about 10 years ago. They came out in small holes the first time I washed them and I had to throw them out. I do need a new pair of boots. I didn't wear boots all last winter as it was quite mild. What's in fashion for this winter are the type of boots I like.
