As women we need to be more compassionate with each other...let us be be slow to judge... Let us understand also that we don't always know everything. Phumelele is being real to herself. I think what Phumele is saying is that she lost herself. In being Sengwayo's wife and the mother to his children she lost Phumelele the individual. She is more than just a wife and more than just a mother. She is a human being. She is a woman. Phumelele spent her marriage making a life for Sengwayo and his children effectively putting herself last. Phumelele's children are all grown up now. She is probably now looking at her life thinking if she were to wake up tomorrow and not have her kids or husband who would she be as an individual. Would she wake up and feel like she is nothing without Sengwayo or those children? For so long she has been known as just one of Sengwayo's wives and the mother of his children. Also Phumelele is committed to Sengwayo while his commitment is divided between 3 different women.
