After seeing your feature on the first batch, I just had to have a SUS western cedar top with curly koa concert model. Through working with Isaac at the Uke Lab, an unfinished concert from that first order was located. It was finished in a beautiful gloss, and I am now the proud owner of it. It is my favorite Koaloha to play for it's sweet, mellow projection.
Great ukes. Personally I love the royale pikake models. I love the satin finish on those models. I have one of the sopranos and it's my favorite soprano.
It’s lunch time, this comes through and I know these are going to be stunning and turn me green with envy. Must now only listen so not to engage my UAS. Thanks Alex, you have a good day.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think it’s either an ebony faceplate or the bear mahogany wood with the abalone inlay. I don’t think there’s a koa veneer/faceplate… I’ve had my magnifying glass 🔍 out! 🤣
Hard to say which is better to my ears than the cedar or the mango (for the tenors). It depends if you want to go for a bright or a warmer sound, but none is best in itself. The koa is more of a middle ground somehow, with less of a mid scoop than the mango one. Somehow I find mango is making less difference on a Koaloha than on other brands of ukulele, as the build and the bracing of Koaloha are already bass oriented, it seems that using mango makes less of a difference than for other brand. As I love dynamics I will probably go for the cedar one, hence a really good choice for SUS to make this combination available !

Having a ceder model that's something to be proud of that would be my first choice their great ukes🏝️💪
Mango, easily the best sound.
