- The charge is successful, now comes taking the wells.
The actions of the one trooper (capturing the artillery piece, finding the fuse for the wells, stopping the explosions, etc) are true, and I understand he won a medal for his actions.
From the movie "The Lighthorsemen."
My son brought this video home one day after working his shift in a video store, He said it was a very good movie. I must admit Ive never been a huge fan of Australian movies or English for that matter but I must admit this movie blew me away and I watched it several times. John Ford would have been impressed. Thanks for the uploads it brought back great memories,
westphillybob oh?
Brings a tear to my eye and a lump in my throat every time! So proud of my fellow Australians and just in awe of their courage!
Guster1973 Yah I love Aussies good thing my lover is Australian then
One more thing .. for the record. Rommel is on-record as having stated that "If ever I was given the order to attack & to secure Hell .. then I would choose the Australians to breach the defences (as 'shock-troops') .. and then I'd choose the New Zealanders to hold it !! "
All these quotes from Rommel are bullshit. It's like those facebook memes with einstein saying shit. You just use his name to give validity to your absurd claims.
@@freedomordeath89 Rommel was on record saying that he had a deep respect for Aussies and New zealander soldiers
@@PlagueRunner No, all those records about Rommel are mostly fake, propaganda or PR speeches.
Everyone claims Rommel liked them
Its like those Einstein memes on Facebook...you put a random invented phrase, attach it to Einstein face, put his name under it and BOOM! Its automatically true in the minds of gullable idiots.
@@freedomordeath89 it's a fact that Rommel admired the Australians. Most quotes are bullshit but his admiration for them was fact.
@@SamO-ik2cm No, it's part of the 'Desert Fox' mythology cooked up to excuse British incompetence and make everyone feel better about entirely preventable losses.
My great grandfather Thomas Joseph canny was a lighthorseman at Beersheba in the first world war
I saw charge over 50times live it give live to the horses which of course belonged to our hero aussies
The Light horse is one of the best films ever made, also those heroic Australian Men who made that charge that day where so brave, weather they died, got injured or survived. In my opinion the Australian Light horse made one of the most perfect charges in history with an incredible outcome. The Australian Light Horse were horsemen of the highest standards and there fighting ability was the best as mounted troops. As a British man I have a very high respect for the Light Horse past and present. 💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪💙💛🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Those horses were wild brumbies and used to living in very harsh conditions in the Australian bush before they were rounded up and broken in for use in the Australian Light Horse. Conventionally bred horses could not stand the hot conditions and the long periods without water, which is one reason why the Light Horse were so successful in Palestine.
Absolutely brave men
RIP John Blake.
@Gaffer213 Not really, seeing as the Turkish army hasn't seen major combat for many years and they still have tremendous respect for australia, they even renamed part of their own country in recognition of it, Anzac Cove.
This attack & this victory was planned & executed by Australians, tactically & autonomously. Shows you what Aussies can do in battle .. when left to do a tough job for & by themselves. This one kind of made up for the debacle at Gallipoli back in 1915 .. where the magnificent ANZACS there, were subservient to bumbling "Colonel Blimp" type British commanders .. who were ancient-thinking & still behaved as if the 1st world-war was still being fought according to 18th Century-era tactics.
Gallipoli was necessariy an infantry batte The Austraian senior officers who commanded there didn't do any better than the British and other officers - everyone was learning about modern warfare By contrast, Egypt-Palestine was a cavalry war Australia not only had many mounted units already formed, but also a cadre of officers with as much experience of modern mounted operations as anyone in the world.
ah.. sorry i didn't realize these were highlights
thx for the upload :)
@rhinosdabom That's kind of straining gnats, isn't it? The movie is incredibly accurate in several other regards (the use of bayonets as swords, the Turks forgetting to check their sights, the first wave jumping over the first trench to leave it to the second wave, etc)
Ah yes, the Otterman Empire. Famous for being specular swimmers and for cutting down trees with nothing but their teeth. The wooden dams they built were the envy of the world, and at night they slept holding hands.
Thanks for uploading
@TheLiberalTurkey That really happened. IIRC, the Australian soldier even won the Victorian Cross for it.
Actually cavalry was successfully used against the Taliban at the start of the American invasion of Afghanistan.
And several cavalry charges on the eastern front during WWII
Very good movie!
@whowantsabighug The soldier who stops the explosions? Actually yes. There's a funny bit of dialogue from the movie about that.
"Are you from Scotland?"
"No."
"Oh - so why do they call you Scotty?"
"It's because I'm Irish."
HenryvKeiper haha very funny. It’s funny my lover is Aussie
@Agrifix Not exacly like this. As far as I know the British refused to deliver a warship that was ready, and was alredy payed in full. This was a slap in the face for the once-powerfull empire and had a great impact on Tuskish decision to ally with Germans.
There is no part four :P
There's the conclusion, but that takes place after the battle. I have that video uploaded.
Yeah that scene makes me feel depressed to Hell I cry with surprise every time I stare at it thinking my god Aussies
@HenryvKeiper He was the Irish Soldier in The ANZACs too, Flanagan.
wouldn't it be ironic if when he chopped the wires he slipped and pushed the handle
Haha yeah. I’ll get to Beersheba before the horsemen will and they wouldn’t dare mess with me or else I’ll get revenge on them haha
True story. I'm telling, it's true. That man is really did that.
Did what?
I feel a bit more badass just knowing that Scotty Bolton is a distant relative of mine :)
Portrayed well by the late Jon 'Sonny' Blake...RIP!
What I liked best if all true story and under the guns so true as a mortar man yep then try and hit a movie target with weapons then it is hard enough to do it now hurray for the Australian light brigade from a us special forces guy
4:05 Flanagan and Kaiser.
@randomlook a lot of people in my city don't seem to realise that he lived here after the war as a matter of fact.
0:10 The Horse and The Poor German Soldier. Buwahahahaha!!!!! 😀
By that tine the The Anzac forces had more than grown to respect the Turkish forces and the Ottoman Empire was on it's last knees. If it had been stronger it would have been able to last after WW1, it didn't.There were many peoples who were also sick of being under turkish rule, look up the Arab Revolt if you don't believe me.
Then the British, French and Americans took over. So much for the Arab Revolt. Poor bastards.
The irony is that most Arab subjects remained loyal to the empire (or at least, didn't butt in), and some served in the army. The Iraqis in particular actively fought for the Turks. A lot of Palestinian Arab leaders began their careers are officers in the Ottoman Army.
The "Arab revolt" was actually spearheaded by a small group of tribal nomads from the Hejaz and Transjordan. It was not popular with the settled communities, who by this time were the majority of Arabic speakers/Arabs.
The fact is that the Turks were simply not ready to fight: the industry was limited at best, the country was broke, and leadership was incompetent (and IMO, criminal--both to their own fellow Turks, and to several minorities in their empire). It's a tribute to the Turks, and a small miracle, that they lasted long enough to be the only Central Power to retain some shred of dignity with the end of WW1.
Awesome
No problem :)
Tghe horses were so dry they were after the water no matter what, even a 4 km charge wasn't enough to stop them getting to the water
Actually a 4 mile charge. 7000 yards.
It's one thing for Poms to conduct a supporting up-front artillery barrage .. it's quite another thing for a competent, well-led Oz cavalry force to autonomously conduct & execute a well-planned cavalry charge. One should also be v.careful about who calls who an idiot .. especially if one happens to be 22yo & still wet behind the ears. It sure helps, too, if one can learn to SPELL & use English GRAMMAR properly & correctly - especially if one aspires to eventually become an experienced scholar.
Australians had conducted successful charges against Boer riflemen in the South African War. They planned before this battle to charge if the opportunity required it. Also full credit to the British Royal Horse Artillery who advanced on the flank of the charge and gave crucial artillery support during it.
3:45 ;) Found it!!!!! Clever boy!
@Madando2011 Ah OK. Still, good on him.
@fp470 I'm talking about during the fighting, like on the Western front, Britain, Canada and France were all screwed.
02:04 : Did that berserk Aussie killed the German officer, or did he "just" make him fall off his horse ?
Is the guy with the broomhandle Irish?
@HenryvKeiper sozo and ur right it was pretty accurate anyway gotta send this to my friend coz were doing the same project
Never accept a muslim surrender...
Lachausis Yup. They will Stab you in the Back Even you know each Other. And Most of them are Cowards. They Won't Fight Infront of you. But Always in the Back. I Learned it for Years Fighting Muslim Insurgents. Only a Handful are Peaceful and loving Muslims. Well, Less than a Handful.
Blue Marshall who loves Muslims screw them trying not to be mean but it’s true. Aussies are on my side no one elses
the movie is inaccurate only 2 wells were destroyed
Music is very irritating
They did not have the benefit of music during this!
Yes, sadly overblown music has hurt several films over the years. It was absolutely grating in "Gettysburg."
there not American soldiers mate there ausies , they behave like soldiers,,, how long until we have a Hollywood version of this with yanks instead of ausies
Considering there weren't any American troops within 2000 miles of this battle, it's not very likely. But then again, Hollywood has never really cared about these little details before :)
if you have ever seen an American history text book, you will see its not just Hollywood , unfortunately
Tom c yeah Australians actually in Beersheba 1917
where is part 4?
No part 4 sadly
The music score sucks. Doesn't do justice to the story, worse during the cavalry charge where it waters down to instruments just killing time. Pity.
The Turks had an empire called the Otterman Empire. They were at that time a well disciplined and exemplary army. Under estimated by Britain and her once empire Forces.
"OTTOMAN EMPIRE" CORRECT SPELLING!
Paul William Simpson yes i think the turks made an aliance with Germany should have stayed nutral or jointed Britin wow the middle east would be so different today
@@marinecorpjohn No, otterman. From their habit of lying on their back in rivers and preening their fur. 😂
@Briselance He just fell off.
HenryvKeiper I always nearly fall off horses
It showed how stupid some of the Australian troops were, years ago, no doubt. Take no prisoners men. It was a war.
Seriously don’t Disrespect our boys they are the most bravest men to take into battle . Oh and say that to Aussie face to face and see where you end up mate!! 🧐😠🇦🇺
The Australian soldiers abided by the rules of war. So did the Germans and Turks, mostly.
WASSER
lol great boyonet attack . haa hahah ahaha . I never seen before that. rifles stil waiting.14-15 inch bayonets works well . It is only works in the movie.you must use it with rifles.liar like Balaklava war British charges agains russian artillerry(1854).on the other han If you want to know how to used bayonet .Search Gallopi war 1915 or SouthKorea defences in 1950-53
It was a 17" bayonet. The Australian officers determined before this battle that the best way to use the bayonet in the charge was hand held, not fixed to a rifle. A rifle with bayonet is balanced for two-handed use, not one-handed like a lance. .Orders were issued before this battle that charges (if required) were to be conducted with hand-held bayonets.
@grunt182820 Brit.
two english speaking nation fighting each other. mad
No! why I don’t know they made the Turks etc speak with a English & Australian accent, for the movie. This was made back in 1987
appreantly palastine didnt exist back than XD

You lost 🇦🇺🇬🇧
@@colejones6312 You too lost in Gallipoli 🇹🇷
@@mustafasumer9083 We won the war.
@fp470 But Portugal gave up all her colonies expect Macau in 1974 when leftist party takes over government and seeing the colonies as imperialist thus handing over control to nationalists in each colonies. Angola was one of them.
Only Macau was left cos of fear of people there of communist Chinese takeover so wait until meetings between Chinese and Portuguese lead to peaceful takeover in 1999.
@whowantsabighug you have to be a yank !
