This guy is pretty good at reviewing, he gives a lot of details and avoids giving unimportant ones. I love the phone but I also likes this guys skill at evaluating the phone. Good job.
The reason why I bought an HTC Desire was of its amazing results from the testing by various companies and sites. It has a 1 GHZ prosessor, 3,8 inch LED display, supports flash and you can adapt the settings on it the exact way you like it to be. I made a lot of studies before I chose my phone :P Im glad I made this choice.
Also, Desire reformats text, so that when you zoom in all the text is arranged to fit in your screen. That way you only have to scroll up and down, as opposed to left, right and up, down on the other devices. That coupled with Flash playback and in built translate, wiki and dictionary features means Desire is hands down the best browsing experience on any mobile device.
This is actually pretty impressive, because, yes normally with the higher specs the desire would load quite a bit faster, but it loads most flash content, which slows it down a lot.. and it was still fast, so that's awesome.
Drives me insane the way the HTC screen jumps as you zoom in! Very impractical. I find the iPhone 4 much better for web browsing as scrolling is smoother and pages tend to load faster in my experience. The iPhone's camera's also much better than Desire, with amazing clarity and color. I've stopped using my Desire for photos. However, there are many features that I enjoy with the Desire such as the live wallpaper, the weather animation when you unlock the phone, widget/app personalizing, etc
I just love the HTC Desire! I used to have an HTC Tattoo, and I can't wait to have its older sibling. ;) Even though I'm a Mac user, I'm ready to give up my iPhone for any HTC-branded, Google Android-powered smartphone/superphone! =)
just ordered the desire and it's getting here in a few days. I t was a tough decision between that and the desire and iphone but at least by this I think that I made the right decision. Thank you for the video, it was very informative and helpful x
If you look at 3:21 for example, you'll see that the HTC Desire even loaded some flash there while still managing to finish loading the whole site first!
I Think everyone thinks that the iphone has the best pinch zoom, but HTC Desire's pinch zoom fits the text to the screen, so you don't have to scroll that much, and i think that's why many people think iphone's pinch zoom is better ;D I hope i'll get my Desire soon, i love it :)
@andre2pi My question is why the iPhone was considered a winner when it was obvious that the Desire was loading the entire webpage w/ the flash while the iPhone left the flash elements out. To make a true comparison, flash should have been disabled in the Desire (if possible) and then tested.
It's no wonder the pinch zoom on the Desire isn't as smooth as on the Iphone. As you can see in this video, the Desire automaticly changes the text to fit on the screen when you zoom, which the Iphone doesn't. Reading text is MUCH more convenient on the Desire, because you don't have to go left and right all the time.
I wish these all had a baby and had the hardware of the HD2 the OS and speed of the desire and the App store / Itunes/ multi touch of the Iphone. IT WOULD BE AWESOME
i think the reason why iPhone's zooming seem smoother is because it doesn't do text reflow... Desire's browser perform reflow upon zooming and thus have to recalculate/reposition the visual elements...
@radicalwaveibiza Its because he has installed Opera 10 which unlike Opera 9.7 which is the HD2's supplied browser doesn't have pinch to zoom. In fact it only has 2 levels of zoom which lets it down in my opinion. I stick with 9.7 most of the time.
@GoldwinTime WRONG - they communicate with cell towers - not satellites -which are generally a few kilometers away. Satellite phones do, but they're completely different technology and not generally available.
It's my understanding that the Desire would be using the WebKit-based Android browser and the iPhone the WebKit-based Safari browser. Nice comparison, but a bit too much emphasis on speed - more interested in the handling of complicated pages etc. but cool nonetheless.
I really think you guys at Pocketnow need to review the CyanogenMods for Android.... the scope of its changes transforms the already amazing Android into an even more beautiful and useful OS.... Unbelievable... if Fruyo doesn't include those changes by default, they should totally hire him.
iPhone only has 320 x 480 pixels to "move around" where as the HD2 and Desire has 480 x 800 pixels so alot more. iPhone also runs its OS as only OS where both the Desire and HD2 runs the Sence UI on top of Android and Windows mobile.
@Emz5002 also the iphone 3gs is almost a year old now, and the desire is the latest phone so the fact that the 3gs can almost keep up says something. i have a feeling the iphone 4 will demolish the desire in this test

It all depends on the default web browser. The default wb brower SUPPORTS multi touch zooming ! Why haven't u done the test with the default web browser ? Or maybe Internet Explorer on the HD2 which is also pretty fast.
The desire and the HD have a 1ghz processors, while the iphone has only 620 Mhz they where suposed to do anything faster than the Iphone. I'm an android user since the g1, and I love this system, but although the new generation of phones are already beating the iphone, the iphone still is a great pice of technology, and as you can see , it can do almost the same thing , with a hardware with the half of the power. I hate to admit , but Mr. Jobs did a hell of a job there.
Desire won the Web Browsing-Test hands down, even though the other two are extremely fast as well! Of Course the screen rotates faster, if there is no animation... But the start of the animation of the iPhone should matter and then they are about equal. Still IMO not important, how fast it rotates...
Wish you'd have used Opera 9.7 on the HD2. At least in my experience on other devices, Opera 10 is considerably slower than 9.7. (And I don't like it in general for that text-reflow, worked much better on 9.7, but that aside.)
You missed something important: As you zoom in text on the desire, it REARRANGES the text in a way to fit the window. So you need not scroll left and right at all while reading.....!!!!
In the "rotation test" only iPhone is successful. It's the only one that rotates (perfect smooth). The other-ones are "flipping", for this reason are "faster". Is like comparing desktop switching in Linux with compiz and with not-compiz.
my girlfriend has an iphone 4, i had a hero but im getting a desire now, lets face it, the screen in the iphone has no equal, but the htc's are really cool, im getting the desire for the widgets, better home screen overall and FLASH CONTENT ON BROWSER, most importantly, yet iphone 4 is a nice piece of tech.

Well Apple knows how to do their hardware and software. The 3GS has been the best phone until now. But I still think it's the best cuz I love the UI and the smoothness.
I dont know but if you are using wifi at home then its real time sharing between all three and in real time anyone can win depending the mpbs they are getting I may be wrong.
@burleytrojans Desire? Love it mate. Drop HD 2 like a hot potato if I were you - at least wait to see how Windows phone 7 works out if you really don't want a Desire, WM6.5 is being phased out. The Android 2.2 "Froya" update is out soon, and that improves the web browsing experience even more.
Get skyfire for HD2, it will kill the iphone and desire. Not sure for Desire since it has like identical specs but if the Desire can have skyfire too then the 2 HTC phones will kill any other phone in web speed. I think Pocketnowvideo has nexus and HD2 web speed comparison while using skyfire, check it out.
For me 0.5 second faster page loading is not as important as smooth zooming and scrolling. This is considering Desire CPU runs at 1 gHz. Can't wait to see how iPhone 4 performs.
@smbaby1125 not any part, htc desire is just a little better than nexus one, the htc desire's RAM capacity is 576m and the RAM capacity of nexus one is 512m, the other parts are the same, you can check the pocketnow to find the comparison :-)

I have been tempted to defect to android but I don't think its quite there yet for me, just a few niggles I have seen that would bug me, When they sort those out and bring out a 4.3" HD2 with android then I may be tempted. Also the HD2 build quality seems good, feels really solid.

does htc desire's touch screen still drift, for example when you touched a widget on the left corner but the phone opened a different widget on the right side
@mobilestaffadvice See I love the 4.3 and don't really want to drop back down to 3.7. I find with the depth of the HD2 I can't even tell its in my pocket half the time. Smaller phones which are bigger in depth will be felt much more in a pocket. I grant you that if you have small hands the HD2 can be tricky to use one handed though.

@Parkoristi111 You can't set it up like this, you can't judge by "I have this opinion, what about you guys" The iphone has the best quality screen seen in a smartphone, even though it doesn't have as many pixels to render. The iphone's OS is also optimized to the phone itself, where Windows Mobile isn't optimized to the smartphone itself, but is made for an universial usage on a large library of phones. There's a ton of facts on "which is better"
I'm very very probably going to buy this one to pair with my iphone (one for each different operator) however, i'm a bit reluctant as i'm used to the "ultra-sensible" iphone UI, and wouldn't want a new phone with an UI with a completely different sensitivity setting that i had to press too hard... If anyone could give me a heads up on how different it might be compared to the iphone UI... i would really appreciate any help! =)"

If guys noticed, 2 the other phones were created after iphone 1g. so that makes iphone unique and better... and ofcos if you test the iphone 4g with this phone, iphone 4g will pwn., Its just the matter of when it was realsed... but overall i go with iphone the creator!

Well, I don't know if this test is completely accurate because the iPhone is jailbroken. Having had a jailbroken iPod Touch I can say that the modding really does slow down all parts of the OS.

It costed me £74 for used one, for iPhone 3GS I would have to pay at least £120.

shav4life, the HD2 doesn't support Flash in the default browser, Opera. You need to use IE for Flash functionality.

i still have a htc desire it works well, it's only problem is it's small intern memory
u can use multi-touch on the hd2 by using the opera browser instead of internet browser...

i like opera 9.7 on HD2. It uses multi touch and loads pages faster.
Can you change the background on Desire's start page? It looks kinda boring otherwise a great machine
put in a clock widget and when it gives u the option, slide over til u find the clock u desire. (;))

Well, I don't know if this test is completely accurate because the iPhone is jailbroken. Having had a jailbroken iPod Touch I can say that the modding really does slow down all parts of the OS.
