What amazes me about these top tier acappella groups is that you can distinctly hear each voice. Always so clean, and perfectly mixed.

You think the 'drums' sound so real? I still find it really hard to remember that the 'creeky door' is also Layne's voice. Just SO realistic.
As for that high level of visual production? It is less than you probably imagine. They are shooting at a special studio (not their usual PattyCake Productions) that has wall-sized LEDs. All the backgrounds you see were done by Eli in the program 'Unreal Engine' and played on the LED screens during filming. Thankfully those flames in the background are not really there, since the studio's AC broke that day and they had to do this in the Florida heat and furs. I cannot imagine if they had to deal with fires warming up the room even more. Anyway - ALL those backgrounds (the 'Hall' interior, Outside overlooking the sea, the Clouds in the sky and the Boats on the sea) were done by Eli.
And since you liked J's rap, I'm going to suggest you check out their cover of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" from back while J was still a full-time member. It has another rap, written by the same guy (Alfredo Austin) added into it. I wish I could find more info about him, but I think his writing is just so perfectly 'right' to add to each of these covers. In this one, all the modern-day military references mesh not just with the song, but with the idea that J is in the US Navy. Admittedly, J is NOT Special Ops which the rap kind of suggests, but it IS a nice connection.

Miracle of Sound, the original artist, watched/listened to their version and rated it 10 raised ale horns out of 10!
Geoff hit his lowest note, B0, three times, holding it for 15 seconds at one point. And there is nothing they can't do! They are just the best!

My favorite Voiceplay song! I listen to it every other night for several hours. However, Hoist The Colors by Voiceplay holds the record for my most listened to song, ever! Last year Jan-Nov I listened to it over 43,500 times. I sleep to it. And I still do, so that number has gone up considerably! Valhalla Calling has more of a beat to it, so I can't really sleep to that one. But they're both 20 out of 10s, for sure!💙

Check out Layne's creaky door sounds in this! Geoff's lowest note in this is B0 x 3, Eli and Cesar just nailed the higher registers, and J None (ex-VP member now in the US Navy Chorus) comes back when he can and we all cheer. Geoff dropped a new solo "Don't Mess Around With Jim" (Jim Croce) that is definitely worth your time!

Yeah. With them, if you don't see an instrument, there isn't one. It's them. Even the door creak was done vocally.

Pretty sure VP played a little trick on us Voiceplayas with this one. Especially during Covid, A Cappella groups were doing songs in seperate locations. Like Home Free did "The Gambler," having them all sitting around a table playing cards, but they were all in different places. And Voiceplay did a song ("Enemy") with AleXa, a lovely young pop star who was in Asia at the time, Japan I think. They green-screened her into the video. So when this one opens, a lot of us were thinking "Oh, J. None is in a seperate place, they're adding him into the video." But then he walks into the room, our (well, at least my) jaw dropped! Clever guys!💙

Small FYI. AleXa is in South Korea, not Japan. She is part of the K-Pop scene.
And fun fact. AleXa reached out to them about doing the song, not the other way around.

Thanks for your reaction and enthusiasm for the talent of Voice Play! This was a challenge for them as it was a 90 degree day in Florida and the AC was not working- very uncomfortable wearing furs and such. Loved J None's rap part and it fit so well in this battle song (he is active duty military and the military speak in that section was perfect). Also liked how J None walked through the creaking door to join them (creaking door was Layne's beatboxing). This is one of my favorites from them too. For more J None rapping, I think you would enjoy Voice Play's cover of "Superstition".

I’m watching this after (watching Peter Barber’s interview of Gavin Dunne, aka @Miracleofsound, the composer of this piece). He noted that an early concept of the song was more spiritual, more of a soulful contemplation of a lost religion, rather than a war call. He mentioned one cover (and I’m sorry that I forgot the name of the singer) that portrayed it that way. Now I’m listening to this, and yes, of course we do have the war call, because that’s how I think most people relate to the song, esp. after hearing the Peyton Parrish’version, but interestingly, we also have a brief nod to that spiritual, soulful version in Cesar’s call at the end of J’s rap section. (Which Gavin said was naughty since it was added, but he gave them a pass because it worked. LOL.)
    Anyway, great reaction!

This one follows My Mother Told Me. Then J None was a member of VoicePlay and Jose Rosario Jr was the featured guest. Here Cesar DelaRosa is the member if J None is the guest. There are a few wardrobe changes, like Geoff's shirt and Cesar is wearing the hooded cloak Jose wore in the first one.

All their stuff is top shelf, but since you're more of an instrumental person, take a look at their version of "In The Hall Of The Mountain King", a purely orchestral piece from Edvard Greig's _Peer Gynt_ suite. And for dessert, I strongly recommend "Hoist The Colors", "Oogie Boogie's Song" (from _The Nightmare Before Christmas),_ and their cover of Aerosmith's "Dream On." All spectacular.
