I tried the WT101 rye for the first time recently and it's terrific. As much as I love OF, you'd think I would have tried the rye by now, but nope. I did just pick up the Rare Breed Rye, but with March Malt Madness going on, I haven't opened it yet. Last night I cracked Redwood Empire Emerald Giant... and I'm a fan.
I resisted buying a WT 101 Rye, maybe it’s the contrarian in me, but a friend brought a bottle over last week and gave me a pour. OMG!!! I literally went to the “special store” (that’s what we call the only liquor store in the entire county in this control state of Ohio) and bought one. It’s incredible and rye-t up my alley!! Oh, and at the risk of being called a blasphemer, I agree that it’s better the WT Rare Breed Rye and even (gasp) Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel rye! Sagamore double oak rye, on the other hand. Well…that’s my fave!
We’ll, surpRYES, surpRYES, surpRYES, WT beat out the pricier ones! While some ryes taste more like bourbon, and others are very rye, I think that WT sits nicely in the middle. It’s nice that there’s room for all of them. Sometimes you want a subtle rye like Pikesville or Michter’s Rye, and other times you want to go all in on those rye flavors, like Willett and High West Rendezvous Rye. Fun video, guys!
I keep WT and OF rye in the rotation. If I had to choose would lean toward OF. They are both great. Even keep Elijah Craig rye around as well. Like that better than the small batch.
I don’t know what them Russell boys is up to, but WT101 strikes me as ridiculously good whiskey for the pryece (couldn’t help it). To my taste, better and a better value than anything anywhere near it. You guys do great videos and this was one of your best.
Yea! WT 101 Rye n Old Forester Rye are my go to Ryes all day long…and at such a price ya just gotta love em! Riff is overpriced in everything they do.. don’t even consider the Owls because of same. Thanks a bunch!
I’ve watched several of your videos of rye, surprised to see no Dickle, Templeton, Michters. Ive never had WT but never held them in high regard as a quality bottle. I will give them a chance.
All Rye ght all Rye ght. Nice blind. I just ordered the New Riff Balboa Rye from Seelbach’s, because I do not see it in the stores yet. First Rye I bought was Old Forester and then Pikesville.
old forrester 100 rye is more rye in the mashbill then any of them at 65 percent , however youll find wt101 rye and rarebreed rye and pikeville have the similar mashbill...all are top sellers.
Great video, always nice to see ryes getting some love and even better when it comes with seemingly limitless puns! Have you had a chance to sample the New Riff Malted Rye?
I believe we tried that on a 5 Sip Friday last summer. The New Riff stuff always fools us. It always seems to have the palate of bourbon and the nose of rye. Delicious, but sneaky!
Rye tee oh!!! Old Forester 100 Rye is my current favorite, especially in an Old Fashioned. WT 101 Rye is ryeght there too. Bulleit was my first ryed in Rye. Also, High West Double Rye was very smooth. Have a bottle of Rittenhouse that I haven't opened just yet...maybe tonight...I in the ryeght frame of mind now. Thanks for some good insights and entertainment!
Thanks for the video! My experience with WT101 rye is completely different! That being said, it's one of my favorites.... In middle TN the price is significantly higher. I personally have not seen liters of this, and the 750 is $30. Because of the high corn and barely 50% rye in the mash bill, I feel this is a much softer, sweeter, and more bourbon-like rye than others. There's not a lot of rye-ness in it for me. To me, I only get small hints of spice. I get more honey sweetness, almost like honeysuckle citrus. Also some oak and nuttiness. Anyways, cheers! Have a great weekend.
At least 21 drye humor puns in this one...watch out! Great tasting and I confess I still have not picked up a 101 rye, but will soon. Agree the OF is a candy version but good one to introduce someone. Have not had the other either. One of my favs is still the Laws Rye from CO. Cheers y'all! 🥃😋
WT 101 was my first Rye experience and I still love it, Wiseman is a disappointment both Bourbon and Rye,What happened to my Pikesville all of a sudden I can't find it? Driftless Glenn Rye is a nice replacement for now but nevertheless. Nice job as always cheers.
I have tried the Rare Breed but haven't picked up the 101 rye yet. For whatever reason I keep passing ryeght by it. Guess I need to check that one out. Do love me some Old Forester Rye though:) Looks like Mavis is diggin' the harness...nice! She have any feelings about the snow? Cheers!
WT 101 Rye without a doubt is a keeper for one’s collection. BTW rye-tastic job on this review and a shout out to Julie donning a rye cap for the occasion! 😀
I've enjoyed a lot of WT101 Rye the past six months due to finding it regularly on sale for $20. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find Old Forester Rye in the Kansas City area for a couple of years. I thought Rittenhouse would've been part of this challenge due to it being 100 proof and similar in price to WT101 and OF.
We have tried Rittenhouse in blinds before, but it just never hits our palates. It's a solid cocktail bottle, especially for the price, but we never drink it neat anymore.
Not all ryes are similar New Riff is 100% rye 95% rye, 5% malted rye Wheat or Corn , or malted barley will shift the palate WT 101 Mash bill-> 52% rye, 36% corn, 12% malt OF Mash bill -> 65% Rye, 20% Malted Barley, 15% Corn Wiseman Rye mash bill-> 95% rye
Certainly noted in the video early on that these are very different mash bills, and you’re right. These are not all similar. But these are the whiskeys that our viewers have asked to see matched up more than any others, and we try to make people happy.
If you're interested in leading the charge on gathering product and helping us produce this, we're into the idea, haha. It is an undertaking, certainly.
Love watching y'all but if you're going to do a rye challenge why do a real rye challenge...ie the mashbill has to be at least 70% or higher ... meaning a more true rye not a rye thats barely a rye like 51-54% rye
Just grabbed a sale 19.99 WT101... never had it.. From the 1st sniff and sip hooked. Amazing wisky
I just did a Rye tasting. Old Overholt, Frey Ranch and Rare Breed Rye. All good but Rare Breed Rye is the BEST!
That Frey Ranch is very unique. Both are fantastic. The Old Overholt 114 is outstanding if you can track it down.
I love some WT101 Rye and OF Rye.
WT 101 is my go to in the summer on ice. Great video. MAVIS! ❤
We love Wild Turkey in the summer!
This video RYEvals all other videos for most puns ever!
Boom!!!
Always in the “rye”ght state of mind for watching your videos! Cheers to you both!🥃😊
There you go! Cheers!
Ryes.... Puns..... Drinking hat.... yep I liked this one.

Emerald Giant is great. Our favorite Redwood Empire bottle is the Lost Monarch bourye. That whole lineup is really solid.

All rye t. Thanks. Well done
LOVE the puns! 😂 and great show as always, but I miss Rittenhouse being in the mix.
That Wild Turkey 101 Rye...is rye up our alley!!!😂🤣😂
Yes!!!
Templeton 10-year single barrel rye is a favorite of mine at the moment.
Rye oh rye can't I be doing what you're doing right now?!
Yes!
Great content. I really enjoy New Riff rye so I will have to give WT 101 a shot thanks
What a fun video, thank you
I do enjoy the Old Forrester. Wild Turkey and New Riff are excellent as well.
Definitely wanna try Old Forester rye after this video.
If you get a cereal note, could be that it’s been fortified with Ryeboflavin!! 😂
YES
Great walkthrough. So sad you top pick is not even available in my market!! Thanks for sharing.

Pikesville - the secret is out. What a great whiskey. Or maybe they're holding back because they'll release it as a barrel proof....we can dream.
@@TheBourbonVan I miss it sometimes I wake up crying at night thinking I'll never see it again 😂

I see a pattern....you agree on 4, agree on 1, but split on 2 and 3. Eric G, are you assembling the stats on this?
Rare breed rye 👍🏽

She never got sick of the puns! She’s the best.
Now I’m curious how Russell’s 6 year would compare to WT 101
That's a good question.
Bourbon is bland and boring. Rye is the best. Great video. I love all WT ryes

People have been after us to put WT101 against Old Forester for years. Making everyone happy isn’t possible, obviously.
