Turner Contemporary: 'A pure art space'

Turner Contemporary, designed by architect David Chipperfield, is a new cultural centre on Margate's seafront inspired by JMW Turner's legacy in the town. Jonathan Glancey talks to the architect about the imposing glass structure ahead of its opening

Architecture in total disharmony with its surroundings! The sea view has been blocked with the heavy use of concrete and plastic. A glass or a see-through fabric would have been better I think.

Being inside is kind of like being in a coffin. A total waste of money and time.
