This is the first and foremost ceremony. Phool malche literally translates to putting flowers. This ceremony is done to confirm the match for marriage. The groom's family members is supposed to put flowers on the head of her to be daughter in law. Both the families exchange gifts. This ceremony also includes ring exchange sometimes, thus making it more like an engagement.
