    Katherine, if you read this...
I love seeing the miracles and deliverance, all the testimonies, so I want to express my appreciation for you. However, I want to share that I feel the Charismatic world has often been blind to the tremendous harm caused by the unbiblical teaching of "spiritual covering" and by the "fathers and sons in God's kingdom" paradigm. Even people and movements I've received much from.
I DO agree with having a father's heart for young believers, but it is important to recognize that only God can fill that primary role of our "Spiritual father" and any role of a human leader is secondary to that. Instead, Charismatic churches have repeatedly fallen into putting leaders into a role that only God should have. The roles of teaching and pastoring are also secondary to those of Jesus. The New Testament uses the singular noun "pastor" a dozen times referring to Jesus himself but only once, and in the plural, to refer to other church leaders.
Every single use of the word "covering" in any context I have found in scripture is a role that only belongs to God and not anybody else. The primary use of the word "covering" in scripture is "atonement." Scripture NEVER uses the word "covering" in the way we hear many charismatics use it. Teachings on "spiritual covering," especially John Bevere's book, include serious scriptural errors and rely on the authoritarian bias of the King James translators, who for example, translated very literally "be persuaded by those who stand before you" as "obey those who rule over you."
Young believers often end up trying to find their identity, inheritance, and more in flawed leaders, basically putting that person in the place of mediator between them and God more so than Jesus himself. I myself was incredibly frustrated before I broke free of that. It was hindering me from walking in God's glory.
Paul does participate in God's fathering of the young believers, but the primary role is still that of God himself. In 2 Thessalonians 2 Paul uses not only mother language and father language but speaks as if he were the child of the Thessalonians, saying he was orphaned by being separated from them. This is affectionate language, not paradigmatic language for how the body of Christ is supposed to function. Paul never asked young believers to call him their "spiritual father." It was mostly affectionate language when he called certain people "my son," just as is common in some cultures today, but it was not a paradigm. In Brazil, my wife would call her parents "my son" and "my daughter." But you see him also calling people like Timothy his "co-worker" and "brother."
In fact, for every instance of affectionate "father/son" language in the New Testament describing how young believers relate to leaders, there are about 20 references that use the language of equals such as "brothers, co-workers, etc." The vast majority of "father" references are to God himself. Jesus himself related to his disciples as their brother and friends, saying "I go to my Father and your Father," and as Hebrews says Jesus is "the firstborn among many brothers." The paradigm overwhelmingly modeled by Jesus and Paul for how we relate to each other, even an apostle and the newest believer, was that of brothers, not of fathers and sons.
The space isn't enough to detail the many errors and tremendous harm that come from making "fathers and sons in the faith" rather than "brothers with one Father" our paradigm. Errors even people moving in God's glory have fallen into. But when I read the Bible, it sounds quite different than what I hear in many charismatic circles. We have some ideas that have very little or no basis at all in scripture.

This is the most realistic explanation. I think the same way.
I see how many people almost worship their spiritual fathers. It can be dangerous.
It's okay having a spiritual mentor or someone you consider as your spiritual father, but it's not bibical thinking we have a special covering that protects us from all evil things just because we have a human being covering us. That doesn't make any sense. Cause many people could misunderstand this principle and ger confused.

Thanks so much for a proper explanation.
You revealed the over excessive focus that young believers have placed on "Spiritual Fathers" in the physical above the Lord Himself. This is Truth.
However trying to downplay or deny the fact that concept of fatherhood and sonship is not biblical will be an error.
Fo example, scripture records that the indwelling spirit is our teacher that teaches us all this, does that mean we should listen to other teaches knowing that Jesus has given both teachers and pastors after his heart to teach us (Jeremiah 3)? Same goes to fatherhood.
Apostle Paul who was entrusted with the new testament witness in 1 Corinthians, Titus, 2 Timothy, Philemon, Philippians and so on kept using the concept of fatherhood and sonship not just to individuals but to a group of believer's.
However he most times addresses himself as their spiritual Father and "God our Father" or "The Father".
I think it is the fault of Father's exalting themselves before son's and making son's depend completely on them rather than they serving has human and secondary Guide and help (as you also pointed out) but to assume the concept is erroneous and anti-scripture that will be extreme, absolute and wrong.

Spiritual fatherhood is very biblical. It's just that they are not Abba father. God is our Father (Abba), no man is that.
      Remember father had other meanings.

God is our Father (Abba), not man. But men can be our Fathers (mentors, leaders).
Father has more than one connotation

Holy spirit lives in every beliver ... We should only submit to Holy spirit...not his created creatures..it's called idolatry..... we all are to become mature disciples of Jesus Christ ....all the power belongs to Holy spirit not the created creatures or vessels ..
We are only to submit to father son and Holy spirit
    Not is created creatures..
Apostles prophets evangelist pastors teachers are to train and equip all new baby Christians to only submit to father son and Holy spirit. Not his created creatures..and to become mature deciplesb of Jesus Christ ..
We all are to be Holy spirit driven .
Cause holy spirit lives inside us..
I think it can get out of control with spiritual Fathers and mother's ..where the flock can make u an idol..
And God the father won't like it ..u have to be careful cause our God doesn't share his glory with his created creatures us .....
The great commission is to make deciples of Jesus Christ...not deciples of his created creatures.
Love u... We are to be fully dependent on Holy spirit
Cause even spiritual Fathers or mother's could fall short at any moment ... Holy spirit we love u ..cause u will never fail ..

She’s lying. What she said the passages mean and what the words say don’t agree. ‘Call NO man’ NO means absolute, ‘for one is’ applies the context of them replacing GOD rather than GOD acting thru the miracles. The word she used teacher is from the English not Greek, RABBI.
Look, you can’t interpret the BIBLE so it contradicts itself. If it contradicts you throw it away. So presumably it doesn’t.

  • @KingofgraceSARA

Do not call anyone on earth father for you have only one Father. End of.
Paul said that Timothy was his son in the faith but do we go against what this saith the Lord? Remember Paul spoke from his point of view and from God's sovereignty. Paul never said, "thus saith the Lord, take for yourselves spiritual fathers."
Paul was a man. Imperfect even still having written eloquently in the Bible.
God is God and there is none like Him!
I pray for the discernment of mankind to be deepened, strengthened, magnified in these last days, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
    Amen!

I can tell you thar this is true. I felt it in my spirit when I was a teenager, I must have asked for spiritual covering, PRAYER over me while I faced my battles. Of course, now that I'm older, I do not need them, nor did it think of them as all knowledgable because they didnt see things i saw that were wrong in the church i was in....but i needed their prayer 🙏🏼 thats all.

Allow the Holy Spirit to help you discern❤ She is making this up from ‘her’ heart’s own way because she sees herself with authority, that she has this anointing ‘power.’ She doesn’t see herself just like anyone else but ‘higher’ and righteous, so she has the ‘say so’ in what we should believe.

Jesus teaches disciples to pray... Our Father....
Everyone calls to Father in Jesus name...
    Jesus is one with Father,
but we never call Jesus as father....
So, why to call anyman as spritual father.

  • @shahar26

But, we need to be careful of who is going to be our spiritual father, cause it's not easy to find a spiritual mentor or father who walks in obedience, integrity and power.
I haven't found a spiritual father here in my country. Cause here people don't believe in deliverance or miracles.
So, i might feel that I haven't a covering, but the bible says:
    "Yaweh is my shepherd".❤
So, I think in my case I need to keep praying to God to guide me to a local church where the power of God is moving.
I was born in a christian family and all I can see is religion, cause churches here are based on that.

So, why don't you accept the Catholic priests as your spiritual fathers? How's about the practicing of modesty and simplicity/agtravagant lifestyles of many current Christian preachers and teachers? Are they in contrast to the teachings of Christ? Is it ok to possess lots of things without sharing some to the needy ones around?
