- We finally get a break in the weather and take a ride on the Manx Electric Railway to the top of Snaefell. We enjoy a lunch in the Summit Cafe and admire the views.
The fine weather holds out and we end the day with a beautiful sunset at Ballaugh Beach.

Riding the 'toast rack'.🤣. Acknowledge the 'fairies' at Fairy Bridge. Never heard of it being done at Fairy Cottage.
They take no prisoners those fairies. 😱😁👍
"...our mout." Funny! Thanks for sharing.
Very nice, what a difference a bit of sunshine makes. 🤔🤔🤔☀️☀️☀️👍👍👍
Pretty much perfect Sunset lucky you!! :-)
xxxooo So enjoy the armchair travel I get to do with you both!
Thanks Valerie 🙂
Just look at the smiling faces around her. Shes quite special
Lovely
The IOM is one of the best places on the planet when the sun shines ! 🌞
Hear hear 👍😀
The music after your tram trip sounds and reminds me of Downton Abbey....Lovely
Glad u both got some sunshine, another super video, am well jealous of Carol with the tayto crisps, not had a pk in yonks, sunset was stunning, thanks for sharing, take care 👍
They were lovely mmmmmmm 😁👍
Beautiful video of a stunning day and sunset xx
Thanks Wendy 😀
Spectacular sunset at the end. Really fine photography!
Thanks 👍
I’d love to know why 4 people disliked the video. Very beautiful. Always look forward to your next one. 👏
Cheers Helen ❤️
real fresh air, definitely increases the appetite, so stock up well
Love it when Ken called Carol Chutney!!!!
Such a treat to watch at the end of my busy day......I shall rest easy now. Very warm thank you.
Those trams are very interesting xxx
I'll love to do it xx
Lovely views in the sunshine. It's pronounced ba-laugh (as in hahaha) by the way! 😄
Thanks Inje 👍😀
That was a lovely ride with Ye there made my day Thank you for taking us lovely pics too a Grt girl is carol cherrs Ken
Thanks Mattb1 👍
Lovely end to a great day with good weather. The drive through Sulby Glen is just gorgeous. Nothing like a glorious sunset to end a day 😎
Thanks Claire. We really enjoyed Sulbey Glen. There is more to come from there 👍
Thank you for sharing the tram (train) ride up to Snaefell, all very interesting as also the scenery along the way. The drive to your parkup was also very, very nice and the sunset spectacular!!!!!
Thanks Diana 😀
I really enjoyed this video.
Never been to man and i was taken back by the beautiful scenery and what the island has to offer the tourist.
Thankyou for sharing
We loved the Isle of Man and would definitely go back 🙂
So glad you had good weather for your tram ride.
The scenery is stunning and I love all the little stations along the way ❤️
We were lucky that day 👍
Oh, and Ballaugh is pronounced "Ballaff" rather than "Ballawe". 😃
Thanks for putting us right Carl 👍🙂
What a relaxing video taking the tram ride, driving the road through Sulby Glen and watching the sunset at the beach. Sounds like a perfect day to me! 👍🏻😎 x
Cheers Sue ❤️
Another excellent adventure! We have finally taken our Alphard for a short trip away and minor disaster aside (leaking fresh water bottle - half emptied on our first overnight resulting in a sodden everythiing and soggy doggy) we had a lovely time. Our first trip was at a site out the back of a pub as bouncy lab is not conducive to stealth! How nice it is to make lunch and tea by the sea! We even call each other chutney for a laugh :-D
For the full effect you must refer to each other as chutney 😁👍. Congrats on the first trip. You will spend the first year finding out what you need and more importantly what you don’t 😁👍
Hi Carol and Ken, I just wanted say I really enjoy your photographs, I think they're amazing! Keep up the good work, can't wait for your next video! 😊
Thanks very much ❤️
keep up the good work , love your films, your mrs is a real trooper ken.
Great video, your great at what you do. No click bait etc needed here.Good luck from Ireland 🇮🇪👌
Thanks Kenny, appreciate the lovely comment. Greetings to Ireland 🇮🇪 👋
Ahoy Pirates! If I was there I wouldn't be able to promise not to interfere with the breaks, since riding a cute tram, like that, I would pretend I'm driving! XD Gorgeous scenery again! Now thanks to you folks, my feet are itching to be on the longer run, aye! Keep going, dear ones! Bear hugs from your Captain of the good old Blackthorne
As a notorious Captain we would expect no less from you. Safe travels 👍🏴☠️😍
@@LifeistooshortCK Bloody truth spoken, aye! Sending ye the winds of fortune, me bucko! .)
Fabulous sunset 🌇 you two are blessed
Really enjoyed this.
Thanks for watching 🙏😀
I really get great enjoyment from your videos. The videos are so relaxed and laid back that the viewer feels like they have been on a little holiday as well, and all in the company of two really lovely people. Kens remark "We sat and watched our moat drying out" had me laughing out loud. Long may you both continue to travel in your Little Red Camper
Thanks for your lovely comment, glad you enjoy the videos 👍😀
That was awesome! Loved the tram journey. Quite an experience and one not to be missed. Lovely scenery and the weather was kind too. Sunset was pretty spectacular as well. Liked the look of your pie yum-ee 😊🧙♂️🤣
Hello Wizard. I promised you a Wizard and failed. There was a large wooden Wizard in Sulbey Glen by the roadside which I thought I had filmed. I have searched but cannot find the clip. Apologies but it must have been a clumsy finger day 😟👍
@@LifeistooshortCK awww. It’s the thought that counts Ken 👍 and the perfect excuse for us to track him down if we make it to the IOM in Merlin. 😊
Wow! You were very lucky with the weather! Spent many a happy hour up Snaefell in the mist - story of most of our holidays in the IOM! It’s amazing how fast the clouds scud by! Thanks for another lovely video. ❤️
We were so grateful that low cloud cleared for us to admire the amazing views 😀
Lovely vlog, those electricity pylons on the tramway look like a H&S nightmare. The sunset was lovely. Regards AJ
Yep a free amputation at every one. 😱😁👍
Another great video with beautiful scenery and lovely peaceful music. Thanks guys and the meatballs looked tasty too. Nice one. x
Thanks Tina. 👍
Thank you again for reminding me how beautiful the Isle is
Douglas/Ramsey trams and steam trains are 3 ft gauge. Mountain is 3 ft 6 inches due to Fell rail in the middle. Seems narrow but it is the standard gauge in many countries including Japan, New Zealand and South Africa, where they haul heavy freight trains and the Blue train on it.
There must be few roads on the island you didn't cover. Great videos.
Didn’t know that Michael, thanks for the info 👍
I certainly agree. It is very satisfying watching your videos.
Lovely to see the island again on here😁used to go to Port Jack chippy alot and its still there after all these years 😁 The Fairy Bridge i allways said morning or afternoon 😁 The Trams just cross the road you get a surprise when driveing 😁
Those trams gave us quite a surprise the first time we encountered one with no crossing gates 😳 Glad we could bring back some memories for you 😀
Please never leave the Island! ❤️🇮🇲
Too late we left 😱😁👍
Glad the weather turned itself around for you. Another lovely day! Mary
Thanks Mary 👍
Highlight of our holiday when we went 👏👏
One of our highlights too 👍😍
I have really enjoyed this IOM trip, it looks a lovely place and the people seem very welcoming.
Lovely place to be 👍
Shame about the mist, but the open tram trip looked great and definitely something we would do, brought back memories of San Francisco. I guess next episode is ferry trip home? Do you miss Isle of Mann? Do you miss summer more to the point? 😄
Well sitting in a wet van covered in wet leaves in the middle of a very wet forest does turn our minds to sun but we still love it here. There are three more episodes of the Isle of Man and then we move onto Wales again. We enjoyed San Francisco as well specially the seals down on the wharf. 👍
@@LifeistooshortCK haha same, fond memories. I met the actor who played Darth Vader in the old Star Wars movies down on that wharf in San Fran - can't remember what he was doing doing there, but funny
Ooo look forward to Wales also and the forest, great way to spend autumn. Enjoy 🍂
You should see Sulby Glen in the snow!
I can imagine that is a beautiful sight. Wouldn’t fancy the hill and hairpin bend though 😁👍
@@LifeistooshortCK THought I'd say too it's pronounced bal "laugh" as in laughing I hope you return to the IOM :)
Snæ means Snow in old Nordic and Fell comes from the Viking word for Mountain, Fjell.
So, it''s Snow Mountain as named by the VIkings.
I guess you already know that all the towns and villages in the UK with BY on the end comes from old Danish meaning village or town. EG Whitby is White Village. Sortby is Black Village.
2 train rides you will enjoy are the Kongsberg Silver Mine train ride in Kongsberg Norway. The other is also a nice train ride in Bergen on the west coast of Norway.
Then, as I think about it, you have the Flåm railway in Norway. Then there's the Oslo-Bergen railway. Then there's the Oslo metro under ground (T-banen).
And to be honest, the train from Kristiansand to Bodø is stunningly beautiful too. Lots to see in the camper and on a train in Norway.
Overall however it's best to see Norway from a private vehicle. A few short train rides here and there breaks up the routine :-)
Thats a few more great suggestions to add to the list. Snow was the one thing we didn’t get to see on this trip 😁👍
Great to see you made it - bit surprised how packed you are with Covid but great views .. I guess sun out all go for it….. it’s great to link in all the places you have visited in previous videos …
We were surprised when the lady squeezed in next to Carol and then couldn’t believe her husband squashed in aswell 😲
That sunset was beautiful. Take care Gill
Thanks Gill 😀👍
Came across your videos randomly! Loved watching so far 😊 I love travelling, hope I can do this when the opportunity arrises , I don’t explore the island enough really so this has motivated me to do it more - thank you! Your both such lovely people x
You are welcome
hi carol and ken I have followed your adventures on the isle of man and i have enjoyed them, i thought i new the isle of man but you travelled to lots of paces i have never seen. there is a great little railway to see at groudle glen it is a nice walk to it along the glen. it is open on sundays and wednesday evening, ihope this is of interest. thanks for your videos
Thanks Paul. Glad you are enjoying the Isle of Man videos. We are back home now but will make a note of Groudle Glen for next time we visit 😀👍
At 1'33" these are the various horse tram carriages - I spent many's a day going back and forth along the prom on one!
At 10'16" well, at least you now know what the inside of a cloud looks like! Having been there myself, it's a unique experience 😀
We would have loved a ride on one of those horse drawn trams, it is a shame they weren’t running.
Brilliant video. As a 40 year plus railway enthusiast that railway is on I have yet do do.
We recommend the Snaefell Mountain Railway but make sure you pick a clear day 😁
Glad you finally "got the weather". I like the way you insert Carol's photos in the video.☺️
Thanks Helen 😀
Hello Ken / Carol thats was great beautiful ride up to the top of Snaefell lovely views and ride back down first class, great spot for your overnight camp also ,looks like Carol cooked a winning dish I could tucked into that :) Take care .
We struck lucky with that ride Shaun 👍
Good job holding back on that until the last day, it was worth it for the weather, and what a sunset to end on.
Worked out great that day. If only they all could 😁👍
Thank you for a very interest and scenic video.
Ken your phobia of hills must of been going crazy on that tram, especially considering they have rolled away in the past XD
No one told us they had rolled away in the past 😱 Thank goodness 😅
Very good photoes - I am often impressed. Make a signature in the right side ?
Lovely video. Great photography and editing. Brings back distant memories of many family holidays in isle of Mann. I remember being in those trams. So long ago. Last there in 1976. Would love to return. I was curious how long it took to get to the top of Snaefell. How much was the ticket?
All those place names bring back happy memories. My father often spoke about them after his holiday. My father also had a big interest in the trains and the mechanics and electrics. Also I always recall the Manx bank notes in particular the 50 pence note.
Isle of Mann was a great holiday destination from Belfast 60 s and 70s. Many happy memories. I think my parents liked it cause it was British and no foreign food.
Then in later years the cheap flights to the sun took over and it just became expensive and not as attractive to go to the Isle of Mann.
Your videos are great and they allow my to see what the Isle of Mann looks like nowadays. Thanks
Snaefell takes 30 minutes. It was a real shame that cheap flights to Spain took the focus off the island and resort towns throughout the UK. Maybe Brexit and the travel restrictions will bring a bit of life back. Lockdown has certainly reminded people of the beauty on their own doorstep 👍
Absolute freedom !!! Thanks so much for continuing to share with us all
That hits the nail on the head 👍
Love the tram journey. Glad you got some nice weather . Lovely video as always . Thank you
Thanks Carol 😀👍
Loved the tram ride took me back to time wee took the wains up the mountain. Definitely have to get back over. 👍
I remember The Manx railway as a kid with my Parents Many memories Lovely vlog Ken Hugs to Carol x 👊🐶👍🏴😘🚐 Stephen & Skye x
Hi Stephen & Skye, thanks for watching. Glad we could bring back some happy memories for you, those must have been great holidays. Loving your Isle of Skye videos 😍 Take care ❤️🚐🐶😀xx
Brilliant as usual, and the weather was great ..☘
Thanks Mary 😀
Awww that brings back memory's of the trams in Douglass me grandad did the trams yoused to love it xx
Glad to bring back some happy memories for you Nicola 😀
Life is too short you did thank you xx
The isle of man is on my to go list as well.Beautiful sunset.😄
Well worth the effort 👍
Well, I am glad that my gloomy prediction was wrong and that you did have some beautiful views up at the summit as well as a tasty meal- well done! Personally, you have really done me a great service with this whole series about the Island as I have not been able to get back since the pandemic was declared. I actually had a trip booked and was already packed but sadly we went into lock down a couple of days before my intended departure. So frustrating! My five month stint away from the Island has now turned into a two year hiatus so it has been lovely to be reminded of everything still waiting for me to return.... Thank you, Ken and Carol- you will always have a very warm welcome if ever you return ( can't always guarantee the weather, though!)
We were lucky as we got to see it in the mist and when it was clear. We are pleased that this series has brought back some memories of the place that you love. Fingers crossed you can get back soon. 👍
Beautiful sunset ❤️
So glad you got the weather for doing Snaefell summit….and the sunset from Ballaugh….👍🇮🇲
Cheers Andy 😀
You had better weather that when I went up Snaefell, it was very windy. Did Carol not get the Manx Symbol on the top of her hot chocolate? I remember I did got the photo to prove it. This trip of yours has been wonderful, have loved every minute. 👍😁
She didn’t get one but they were very busy so maybe some do and some don’t 😁👍
I enjoyed the train ride
and the views of the countryside.
tuna I don't like, im not a fishy person.
I luv our outings.
take care and stay safe.
Thanks Moira, you too ❤️
This whole Isle of Man series has brought back some great childhood memories.as a family we used to go there every year 42 years ago thanks
Glad we could bring back some fond memories for you Phil 👍😀
Hi Carol and Ken,
I am almost at the end of your AMAZING adventure in the Ise of Man (episode 21).
I just wanted to point out your reference to the Huf Haus you mentioned in this episode, these houses are brilliant, my best friend lives in one in Surrey - Lucky Her.
Huf Haus, (pronounced HOOF HOUSE in English) designed by Peter Huf, they come 'in 'kit form ' from Germany by lorry, when assembled, are ready to live in within a month. I just thought thatyou might be interested if you don't already know the history of these great houses?
I really am enjoying your channel, they brighter up my days, during this time of the year.
Keep up the good work. Thank you.
Thanks for the info on Huf Houses. They sound really great. Fancied getting one in the past ☺️
Great and awesome video ... thanks🙂👍
Thanks for watching 👍🙂
Good weather and what a sunset 🌅 another Great video x
Thanks Maureen 😀👍
Lovely sunset
That was a very nice trip on the tram and with the sun finally out some great video and stills.
That was a really well maintained road you traveled and wide for sure.
Thanks Larry, glad you enjoyed it 😀
Amazing and beautiful scenery
Cheers Peter
Merci pour ce beau voyage, magnifique avec le beau temps 😊 👍 elle est vraiment belle cette île. Moi je connais Gersey.
Merci Muriel. Content que nos vidéos vous plaisent 👍😀
Really enjoying this series. I used to often look across at the Isle of Mann from the Ards Peninsula and wonder what it was like.
Thanks Julie 👍
Hi.
Hope you are both well.
Family went in the tram upto The Great Orme today after seeing your last trip around Wales and Angelsey. 👍😎😎
Hope you enjoyed the Great Orme Jon, great place 👍😀
Hi Carol Ken,yes it was worth watching lol the tram ride was great how enjoyable how long did it take you to get to the top ,one good thing it’s not raining the views was great at the top but the clouds was coming in hope you got what you wanted, the road to the beach was a good one ,what a beautiful sunset ,till next time take care keep safe,j🌹👀🤷♀️🤷♂️
I would say it takes about 30 minutes. We got everything we needed up there. 😁👍
Another great video tour of the island and so pleased the weather cleared up for you on Snafell, if we'd known when you were there, we'd have given you a wave from home on the Cumbria coast. We weren't so fortunate when we were up there and couldn't see a thing, let alone home. Can we assume this was your last day before catching the ferry?
We had a couple more days after this, three more videos to come ☺️
@@LifeistooshortCK Yey!!
Well, what a difference some sunshine makes to a place!!.......a lovely episode yet again from you guys. The Isle of Man is definitely on my place to go list.
One meal out and about, with one cooked in the van each day is the perfect combination, you get to try the local offerings whilst keeping the washing up to a minimum.......see you soon Ken and Carol xx
Thanks Tom. Hope you can get to visit the Isle of Man one day 🙂👍
Loved seeing the tram ride up the mountain, glad the cloud cleared up for you.
We were glad too Lisa as we had waited for what we thought was going to be a good weather day 😀
I love watching your videos they’re so easy to watch and very relaxed.
Take care Ernie.
Thanks Ernie, glad you enjoy the videos 👍🙂
That was amazing. Beautiful photography, in spite of the low cloud when you first arrived at the summit and a fantastic finale as the sun went down. I felt for you when that couple got into the tram alongside you, most other benches only had three people seated and poor Carol had to turn sideways. We went to Blackpool some years ago and we took a tram, we were surprised how small the seats were but we’re all so much bigger nowadays. Years ago I saw the armour used by Cromwells army in Durham Castle and it looked tiny. I think the guide said the average height of the soldiers was four feet nine inches. Thanks again for a really interesting video. I feel sad that your adventure is drawing to a close.
Three more episodes to come and that will be the end of this trip. It was cosy on that tram. We will have to go and see that armour now 😁👍
I just love watching your videos - always calm & relaxing, possibly my favourite on RUclips. Thanks again Carol and Ken. Safe travels.
Greetings from Australia 👋🏻👋🏻
Well yet again a great video. Like my previous post I when 16 and my first job. I used to walk up Snaefell in the winter as part of my apprenticeship. I was a tv radio engineer which mean the company repairing the emergency transmitter at the top. So hail snow dark light I would be asked to go up there. Couldn’t say no then. 50 years ago. Love it !!! John
Thanks Asahi 👍🙂
@@Jjgov68 those were the days! Very character building for sure 😀👍
mushrooms come out better if you cook them on a low heat slowly, preferably in margarine. butter is better, but the price, is more costly
Where that "huf haus" is there used to be a really nice pub many years ago called the Tholt-y-Will. Many a fun evening in there, and it was also a beautiful spot for a sunday lunch. Sad that its gone. I live in New Zealand now, but I was born and raised on the island and I've really enjoyed this series of videos. Thank you.
Thanks Carl, we love hearing interesting facts like that about places we have visited. Greetings to you in New Zealand 🇳🇿 👋
Morning guys.
Morning Larry 👋
Glad you got a good day for your trip, it makes all the difference. Those tayto crisps are made here in northern Ireland uk,i hope you enjoyed them carol. Glad you spoke to the fairies 🧚♂️🧚♀️. Another fine meal made by Carol it looked delicious 😋. Another enjoyable video guy's cheers. Xx ❤️💙
Thanks for watching Margaret. Those Taytos certainly were tasty 😋 😀👍
Loved this video. Beautiful scenery in the sunshine. Food looked yummy as well. One thing I'm intrigued to know is how you both keep clean and wash in such a small van?
We do show how in one of our videos but neither of us can remember which. Basically we heat a small amount of water in a pan and use flannels. We steam the flannels every day to keep them fresh. It works well stops us smelling like tramps and works fine for us. 😁👍
I just love going on your trips with you! It’s 10.30 pm. Finally able to relax n watch your video. I needed to finish making my vanillas. One using vodka one in makers mark whiskey and one bottle in captain Morgan’s rum because it is gluten free for the people in my family and of course Madagascar vanilla beans
Sounds lovely. How long do they have to soak before they are ready. I love vanilla.
@@LifeistooshortCK at least a year for full flavor, but ready for use in 6-8 weeks. I think the vanilla beans in the rum is my favorite. The rum brings a different flavor to the food.
I have been making for many years, I just add a couple of more beans to the bottles
@@whiskeycook3323 wow that sounds delicious 😋
À brilliant trip, thank you so much for taking the trouble to share with us. It’s been a life safer for me as been unable to travel this year. Thanks both.
The Tram trip was brilliant and good weather. You could lose arm holding a camera outside Tram Ken. Also like Carol pics.
Glad we could help Nix. Thanks for watching 🙂
What a difference the sun makes, brilliant video from you both as usual.
Thanks Richard 😀
You can see 7 kingdoms from Snaefell - Mann, England, Wales,Scotland, Heaven and Neptune. Sadly 😥 only on a clear day
And Ireland. I think we were lucky enough to see them 😄
As always, very nice video.😊💖
When you first got on the tram did the tram staff warn everyone about keeping their limbs INSIDE the trams and that includes your cameras 4:50?
I don't understand the "Morning Fairies" statement 7:50 - is that just a local lore?
I didn’t hear a warning if they did but there is the odd sign on the train. Isle of Man like Ireland have fairy lore. You only need to say good morning Fairies when you cross fairy bridge but we were having fun saying it wherever we saw it 😁👍
