ABOUT ME
I’m 31 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 breeding ewes.
I shore over 15,000 sheep this season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September. (Covid messed it up this year)
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on RUclips and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.
LOVE the camera angle on the last shearing
Thanks Melanie! I should really do more of that!
Great angle !! I can really see much more detail
Soooo Cameron. Just one more wee suggestion. When you have the camera fixed on the trailer to show you and other shearers, at times the young ladies collecting the wool tend to stop and wait, right in front of the camera, blocking our view of you hard working shearers. I'm sure there's several ways to get around this, ie raise the camera high and angle it down?
"Black sheep matter'. Love it!
Cammie, I love this video - especially the overhead view of the shearers cutting away a sheet of fleece while you sing to yourself. The runaway sheep being rounded up by the dogs was awesome - I love watching sheep dogs work!
I felt like was on a vacation! So beautiful to hear this language and these different sheep!❤❤❤
Beautiful, you’re videos are so uplifting. Love the music too💕🇺🇸
Thank you!
I humm while I work. It's a sign of joy. Keep on singing Cammy.
Aye I was having a good time 😊
Brilliant video Cammy, and it was definitely Wild Mountain Thyme by Francis McPeake that you were trying to sing haha!
Winner 😁
Great to put a face to a voice; I really enjoyed your podcast with Ally on The Sheep Game Patreon. What a pair of haircuts between you.
😂😂 some boy! Thanks Kaz!
My grandpa is from Scotland but I've never been (he passed before I was born). It's always been my biggest goal to come there. I think the beauty of living there would never get old. Thanks for your videos. I'm living a little vicariously through you.
Singing while you work is a sign you love what you're doing. Never stop.
OK, great video but I got carsick at the start of it! lol Over 30 years ago, my sister went to Lewis with a friend. She said when she stepped out on the ground, she had an overwhelming feeling that she had come home. Would've stayed if she hadn't had a job back in the States. Beautiful country!
It’s amazing! The next Vlog is my trip to the Shaint Isles! Should be Epic!
Stunning scenery up there in the wilds of the Hebrides and some good liquor too by the looks. Loved the singing while you shear , made my day thanks Cammy
My husband and I went to England and Scotland about 10 years ago. Scotland is so beautiful! And the people there were so nice to us. We want to go back. And also go to the Hebrides too. I love your channel !
Such beautiful rugged country ❤
Listening music is enjoying your job shaving the sheep's
I’m a 38 year old make up artist who’s never been on a farmso why do I love watching cami and his sheep?lol love it and now I wanna work on a farm😍
Another great video. Loved the real-life drama of the sheep getting out! And those incredible dogs getting them back. Yes, it did remind me a bit of a cameraman running to get to the action 😂 Loved the music choice in this one!
Love this video and especially the end part of the close up shearing, your very talented Cammy.
Thanks Rita! I should have done more of that!
Love, love, LOVE this! Such beautiful country. It's very different from Utah, USA. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Kristin!
Looking good Cammy
My dreams of traveling as much of Scotland as possible has just expanded to the western isles. Sigh, it’s so beautiful there. And if I were surrounded by people speaking Gaelic I’d never go home. So exciting to come home from work and find a new Sheep Game video to watch. Thanks for taking time to do this just after Jock is born. Much love to your family.
All you gotta do it come to Harris and all you'll hear is gaelic 😉
@@lenamackenzie3461 Next summer!
great job love the sheep running away from home lol
Sounds like you were humming the background song for the video. Must be a new favourite. Loved the last bit to get an overhead view of the shearing. The wool looks luscious…
Quite impressed with the natural beauty of Scotland. Enjoy the videos a lot. Thank you. ❤️❤️
Great video! When I visited Lewis and Harris a few years back, my solution to the Harris tweed issue was to buy 1.5 metres of fabric - I sew, and that was enough to make a skirt. Still pricey, but that put it within my budget! Great to see where the wool comes from. Also, that gin is amazing stuff. I was pleasantly surprised to find that you can buy it here in Vancouver.
I see how hard the work is that you young fellas do, with power shears. I just can't even imagine doing that job with hand shears. Hats off to all those old fellas that didn't have the modern conveniences. WOW!
Love the last bit with birds eye perspective
I should have done more of that!
The Gaelic Duolingo is really good, local Gaelic teachers from here were part of the contribution team, so I've got faith in it, and unlike their other courses, doesn't use a robot voice. You should give it a shot!
Beautiful landscapes! Thanks for sharing.
Just saying hi from South Eastern Australia (between Canberra and the south Coast of NSW) . My dad was a sheep farmer, mainly Merino wool with a few black faced ewes thrown in. He has retired now but he used to shear sheep in our local area when he was younger. I found you thru the hoof gp. Blessings from a new subscriber, Dot
I had a chuckle when after the rescue "Allie" (Sorry I didn't quite get his name) before stepping onto the road checked for oncoming traffic!!!! I wasn't expecting gin at the distillery👍🏻
That was a great video. Beautiful country.
i really like that your vids show us folks from where you live and work! Your accent is lovely!🦌💌❤️🐑
Awesome video!! I got as far as the black pudding and my heart stopped -- so thankful you didn't fry any up or I would have been a goner!
Hello, new subscriber.. Fantastic, my family are from the Uists, altho my cousin is in Lewis..
Hope you enjoyed your trip, our beautiful country..
Cheers..
Singing is often what people do when performing such a comfortable and familiar physical activity their body moves by itself, and you sing to occupy the mind. 👍 shows you are just that experienced and comfortable at shearing
Wonderful editing and fantastic scenery. Brilliant narrative, terrific treat for the viewers, many thanks!
That little road trip I kept trying to jump over late you're on the wrong side of the road lol
A little bit of excitement and dog action. Love seeing the countryside! Thanks for showing us. I was lucky enough to get to Skye when I was there! Picked up a Gaelic dictionary too! Wonderful to hear it spoken there. Also very good looking sheep! They were what kind?
Keep it coming!! 🇨🇦
Love This! Thank you!!!
Love the go pro view thanks for that bit cammy 🥰 not so bad even with the singing 🤭😘
I like to talk to the old folks, and hear their stories. I'm getting to be one of those old folks now, myself.
I love seeing what you do. I would love to visit Scotland and meet you and the family. Give Lizzy and Jock (sp) love from Iowa, USA.
Totally awesome!
Those dogs are priceless, how much harder the job would be without them, made the gathering back a simple thing.
It's soooo beautiful there!
Wait till you see the next video. We go shearing in the Shaint Isles!
@@TheSheepGame I can't wait!!
I love black pudding. I had it first on St. David's day in Wales. As an American, I can't purchase it here. I always manage to have a full English breakfast with black pudding when I'm in Britain. I have also found it in Montréal.
Can’t believe they don’t ship to America! 😁
@@TheSheepGame The product is illegal to possess in the US. Shipping isn't the issue.
No need for apologies for singing while shearing. I remember once singing while steering a ship through a gale and the odd look I got from the officer of the deck.
Thanks for sharing another great video, beautiful countryside 👍💕💕😊
Must be hard times for us up on Lewis if we have to get a fellow scot up to shear the sheep and not the aussie and kiwis up anymore, joking aside hope you had fun up on this rock in the middle of no where
The whole trip was amazing and I'll be back next year!
Aussie and Kiwis are on Covid lock down!
LOVE the view from your side!
Thanks Sondra!
Another great video for you cammy loving the shearing videos
I'm 8 months late but I'm on a mission to watch all your videos im order from the very beginning!
I know the song! Unsure if I have the right name, but it's "Will you go lassie go"...... And we'll allllll gooooo togetherrr! So on so forth.🤣 No bad singing!
I'd have sworn you were singing a Disney song... But apparently not! Still plenty of time for that coming soon! Brilliant video and a nice place to work.
Although not on this vlog, I absolutely love watching you with your dogs and how well trained they are and the mutual love and respect between man and dog. Any videos you put out with you and your dogs I'll be the first in line to watch and give a thumbs up!!!
The song is easy..”The Ancient Shearing Song of Scotland”..(actually it sounded like the song that you used for the video during the driving scene).
I still get nervous when you shear so confidently around the boy bits on the rams…i guess a habit of anthropomorphizing my one sheep.. Great video, i think you need to have a contest for a bottle of Highland Whiskey 1984!
Thanks Cam my great grandfather was transported from Lewis to Tasmania for stealing 2 sheep in 1853. My love of sheep comes from Lewis. I bought the yummy gin recently.
And the dogs to the rescue.❤️
A wonderful video of beautiful Scotland! It makes me dream of living there! 🥰
I'm really enjoying your videos! I'm so glad I found your channel.
Thanks 👍
Glad to see you had time to check out the distillers. That is one of my favorite past times too. I make my own mead.
Another mean vid bro. Keep em coming 👍 watching from Wellington, NZ.
Thanks bro!
Cammy, I really love this video
enjoyed the headcam at the end. great vid thank you for bringing us along.
Hi Noah glad to see Cammie has some good help today.
Hey Darlin’ is a cool song. Your music choices are so good!🦌💌🐑
Thanks very much!!
Love you guys😘😘😘
and the puppers save the day again. LOL
Song is Wild Mountain Thyme, other names it goes by are Blooming Heather or Go Lassie Go.
Darn someone else got there first.
Very good Eleanor 👍
Class video well done hope lizzy and jock are doing well love from Ireland 🇮🇪
All good here thanks Mark!
Scotland in general is on my bucket list. Always thought it was so gorgeous and love the accent. I'm in South Dakota, USA and we don't have as many sheep here, mostly beef cattle and pigs.
Aw, I thought you were singing the shhep a lullaby. That was my favorite section, wathing what you did with the skin and shears. Excellent vid agagin, thank you
Maybe the sheep thought it was and sat nice and still, glad you enjoyed the vlog.
Sounds like the song that was a singing was Will ye go Lassie go. Love the clipping system Cammy just the way I clipped my Suffolks. Nice and simplistic. Makes me feel better of my setup. Thanks for that wee show. Hi from Rab Graham from Ballymena. Hope the wee man is well at home with Mammy.
I really love all of your videos! You and your family are an inspiration and give me hope to keep pursuing my sheep game dreams!
wild mountain thyme is what you were singing to yourself at the end
That's the one! =D
Wild MountainThyme😂😂
Beautiful country, great dogs.
Thanks for the video...got to be close to time to get yourself some tops?
Nice quiet sheep great fleece
Stornaway black pudding is amazing. Sacralige I know but it’s lovely in Mac n cheese. I’d love to visit more of the islands.
Amazing in so many things 😁
Was is this song you were humming 🙂 "Will ye go lassie go and we will all go together to pull wild mountain thyme all around the blooming Heather "
That’s the one!!
LOL, ALL I CAN HEAR IS "SHEARS & SHEEP, LOL BAAAA❤. 5/8/2023.
you are a very clean shearer and even my dad said that you are and he used to shear for Australia
Thanks Mac I appreciate that!
Is black pudding like blood sausage? Polish German heritage here. Love your videos. So glad to see them again. Hope all is well with your new family. 🥰
The Cammy-Cam at the end was nice, even if you were singing to yourself! 😋
The people who owned the cattle station I worked on in Queensland, had another 5000 acre place out towards the coast, called Stornaway
Ah think there are quite a few twinned name places between the UK and Australia
I think the song you were singing was the “Hens march to the midden” !,
Love me some tasty gin. If ever you end up in western Canada, there are many distilleries worth a visit. I also love to hear some proper Gaelic even though I would embarrass my ancestors by not understanding.
Cammy, Absolutely LOVED the camera view at 10:47!!! Can you use this view more often in your shearing videos please? Thanks! :) Tracy
Thanks Tracy, glad you enjoyed that angle with the camera, will try and get more of that in.
Great video cammy keep up the good work 👍👍👍
Whoo hoo been waiting for this one!!
The next one is the big one on the Shaints! =D
The end of your video was fantastic loved the upclose
Thanks Lori.
Cammy I've got a cousin who I think is up your way shearing well last time I heard. Pre COVID he split his time between the UK and New Zealand. Plus don't ask me to shear a sheep even though I come from a family of sheep shearers as I work on a dairy farm.
I spent 18 months on Unst in Shetland - it’s the most northerly British Isle.
Here’s a travel challenge - Will you sheer on Unst Cammy?
The area is stunning. Not sure what is cuter the little boy or the puppy!. I have some Hebredian black yarn and love it. Shetland is my dream visit. Couldn't go to Lerwick for the Shetland Sheep and Wool Festival in 2020 or 2021 due to Covid and am hoping 2022 will be the year! Looking forward to your next video in particular since you mentioned Shetland. Thank you for another interesting and beautiful video.
Thanks Donna. The next video will be about the Shaint Isles. 3 small uninhabited islands a few miles off the coast of Harris. They are amazing! I’ll defo get to Shetland next year!
Wild Mountain Thyme
In that last bit of shearing that you did you could see how white the wool was on the inside. Does it feel as soft as it looks in the inside of the fleece? 👍😀
It doesn’t actually feel as soft as u think on these breeds. But on some it is very soft!
Go lassie Go
My home 😀 hope you enjoyed your time here.
Brilliant! Heading to the Shaints for the next Vlog!
@@TheSheepGame absolutely lovely place the shiants, who's taking you out one of the local boys ?
just subbed loving the channel!!!!!!
Thanks Nicholas!
