Some of the people you meet are so kind and open- I don't know why I choked up a bit when that man was so proud of your Chinese, and was adamant to invite you home to share a meal with his family. That was a very sweet moment. UGH, and the grandpa at the end having fun with the drone was so adorable!!! I hope I'm that keen to new things I see when I'm old and gray!

LOL, that Grandpa at the end was one of the best things I've seen on RUclips in a while, and he whole family seemed great. That was one of the most genuine things I've seen on this channel so far.
I felt the same way. Absolutely loved seeing the grandpa enjoying the drone which he never would have experienced if they hadn't stopped there. Very cool!

This is one of the best videos I've ever found on RUclips. The kids seeing their first foreigner and the old man and the drone and the food! THE FOOD! Honest reporting and good people. I wish tourism to China was more of a thing. 5 stars!
I am a Chinese yet I fullly agree with you that food safety has a long way to go in China. I dont understand why my fellow countrymen get so triggered by the issues we have. Keep up the good work, you guys are awesome:).

There may have safety issues of the food in China. It is safe or risk as same as anywhere else in the world. Relax, 1.3 billion Chinese people are living safely at any single day with 3 meals.
Excellent show! I've watched this video several times since you posted it and am simply amazed just how incredible this Hakka style farm-to-table restaurant was you both enjoyed and shared with us. The tour of their operation was just so wonderful, and particularly their frankness and sincerity to even strangers, which I find are the most enjoyable aspects of rural folk throughout East Asia. Thank you so much for sharing this experience with us of that lovely family. Back when I was in college in the 90s, many Chinese families in the U.S. would rent or sharecrop farmland so they could grow their own vegetables and sell the excess in Chinese restaurants and farmer's markets on the weekends for income while Chinese government-sponsored students with all their tuition and rent already paid.
This video format is a nice contrast to the regular ones! It's this style of video that REALLY makes me want to check out china for myself :) It's awesome seeing the genuine interactions with those restaurant staff. So glad I found your channel and binge watched almost every video :P

I like the wide range of topics they discuss, not necessarily the food. I'm interested in getting more broad based knowledge at the moment, rather than delving into one specific area. You guys are great. Good quality. I like that you don't afraid to explore. I have a friend who had lived in China for two years but still don't know anything about this country.

My first experience of "real" Chinese food was in Chengdu and then in the middle of nowhere, Liangshan. But the food was amazing. I miss true Sichuan and Yunnan food so much. All the places we ate were really clean, and even the restaurants that were rundown and old, and they were pretty much picked at random based on where we were and hungry. Also, tofu and eggplant are so well prepared in China, they're absolutely shit in the USA in my opinion.
I think I went to all the crappy places in Chengdu then :( We went to one place and had yu xiang rou, and some other dishes. It was no where near as spicy as I expected. Honestly, I have had spicier Sichuan food here in Melbourne.
+merinsan Did you ask for it to be spicy? Sometimes, in my experience at least, they would make it less spicy if i didn't asked them to make it mala. Great video, would love to see more family style restaurant videos from different parts of China. I live in Taiwan and travel (and eat) extensively, so many items you guys eat are familiar but still different. They commonly prepare bitter gourd with salted (duck) egg here, and I grow to like it over time (just like stinky tofu). Sanitary conditions are much better here, though, I eat street food all the times and while I normally get sick easily, I never had a problem here.

@@jiachael5222 That's recency bias. You should see the comments on their older videos from mainlanders and it's generally positive. Given their stance now and the attacks by nationalists.
Great video guys, really enjoyed the last section with the restaurant staff. This looks exactly the sort of place people should hunt out, a restaurant where the staff are proud of their produce and meals. Its places like this family run rural restaurant that China should be encouraging and promoting, a great advert for China. Mind you though, Winstons stroll through the market to the accompaniment of various food sellers hocking-up phlegm would put off even the most ardent food shopper.
I honestly think this is THE single best video I have ever watched. Made me want to learn Chinese, and sad that I can't speak with people like that, and have those experiences. Amazing work guys.
Awesome video. I love seeing rural China, and honestly I'm a bit of a clean freak myself especially when it comes to food so I doubt I'd last long, but that food looks great. Love seeing how they grow the crops and keep chickens out back.
What a lovely video showing the other side of China where people are genuine and full of hospitality. Thankuou I really enjoyed watching this video!! ❤️
That little restaurant is amazing! The same kind of quality and pride that my family had coming over from Italy to the United States. It's so hard to find places like that anywhere really and right there in rural china you found that. It just goes to show you that no matter your background it's those who take a sense of pride in their food that always shine.
Love how all the videos are made so genuinely, they don't forcibly make content for the viewer (or views), or go great length just to prove a point. They simply tackle China from a perspective which anyone who visits China would see, no crazy shit, no bizarre adventure. This is probably why their video doesn't become boring and repetitive like a lot of other RUclips channel.
This is a absolute awesome video and a joy to watch, I love the great Hospitality and friendliness at that restaurant, those people were really super cool with you guy's...
I wish I could have this experience! The restaurant owners were fantastic! This was so nice to see! Loved this video, especially at the end with the older man having fun with the drone! He never would have had that experience if you guys hadn't stopped there. That is sooo freaking cool!
Not true. I'm Australian with bad mandarin. All the Chinese i have met have been so incredible. When i give them shit directions i've had taxi drivers call into base or call a cousin who speaks a little English just to try and help me out. Without some people in china i would not still be here. some come up to me in line to translate when they see i can't understand.. we immediately become friends on wechat and talk often. within 6 weeks of my arrival i had 40 unknown friends from random meetings.
+Bird718 I have an idea who they are. i meet them in life and then they add me to wechat. I've added taxi drivers, randoms on the street, friends of friends. Many people are absolutely excited to add me and chat with me. Don't get butthurt because you were wrong. Have you ever lived here?
This is awesome showing this experience. These people are wonderful and so hospitable. In my experience, this is the way most rural asian people are. It's such a great experience meeting people like this and seeing how they live! Just very nice charming people who know very little about the outside world but are genuinely curious. Do more of these!
Love the Videos! I tell all my ABC friends about your fine work. Your videos are informative and insightful. They provide great depth and dimension to life in China.
hey I've been following yall for about 6 months now and I have to say this was my favorite episode so far!!!! especially in the end. lol "don't mess with the drone grandpa"
> This video's quite difficult to dislike Well they do mention that lots of restaurants are scammy / filthy, so at least there's _some_ unpleasant truth to throw a hissy-fit over! :p
@Kikuli Kokuli We have that in the US. Search Hell's Kitchen and watch it. There are some restraunts that's just as dirty in the US. It boils down to the owner of the restraunt if they are educated enough to clean their restraunt front and their kitchen.
This video is way much better. No click bait. Capable of appreciation and criticizing things without being condescending nor staying always at the side of negative perspective or generalization.
12:39 "Really great stuff. Overall... eating in the rural China is fantastic." I transcribed for the non native english listeners, like me. Understanding C-Milk's fast talk is a real challenge. It took me a while to get to this point where I can understand C-Milk speaking with his mouth full of food. I feel so proud of myself. I deserve a prize or something.
The food at the restaurant you all was eating at looked great and I could eat that so easily and enjoy it. The old man near the end of your video seemed to be very happy with your drone and probably wants one himself. Those people enjoyed having you all there and they gave you the best they had.
talking about friendly people. My family are from Bangladesh, whereas, I am from London, everytime I have gone there I have found locals very friendly, inviting me to their homes and eating with them. When I've told my family, that live over there, that I did this, they were angry because they think it is dangerous for me to do that. But locals, especially in rural areas, do not really see many foreigners, and you. accepting their invitation and going means the world to them. They can show you how they live, what they eat, or just have someone to share their experience with. They can also learn how your lives are different. I really do think, this isn't unique to china, but places where tourists don't really come that often.
Totally awesome little restaurant there - it's really neat how they are going to the trouble to raise their own produce and poultry, coupled with the general cleanliness of the place. These people really care about their chosen line of business. Also, since they can raise a lot of their ingredients, they can save money - a nice synergy when you can find it. Funny thing is, I seldom had any digestion issues in China when eating at mid-range to relatively cheap places... a huge factor in this is the quality and amount of the cooking oils being used... that can be a problem anywhere in the world.
I would love to see more of those real live interactions with local Chinese people. Chinese + English subtitles will help to learn the language even faster. Especially because those are unedited unscripted reactions you would not experience in a class room.
i share your videos with my friends all the time. we play alot with chinese people and you have helped me seem them in a better light. DONT HATE ON THESE GUYS! they make you look GOOD!
As a Chinese American, let me tell you something interesting. I used to live in Vermont, a very rural part of America. There was no racial diversity whatsoever. I was like a banana in the milk. I also went to your neighboring country, Zimbabwe, as a tourist. Banana in the ink. People were also very excited to see me when I was in Vermont as well as Zimbabwe. Just like the way these Chinese people responded to you. But can you believe? Even in America, you still have places like Vermont to this very day, where there is hardly any racial diversity at all. Much kudos to that young man trying to speak English to you, by the way, especially according to what he said, he never had anyone to practice English with. Impressive! Wow, you mean to tell me there are still places in China, where people had never seen foreigners?
"there are still places in China, where people had never seen foreigners" - yes, check those villages in Guizhou, they hide in the mountains and even the local government can't really keep in touch with them
The job you guys are doing raising cultural awareness to us dare I say ignorant people in the west is just incredible. Love the channels and all your content and I just pray I may get the chance to visit China before the end of my days to experience it for myself. A very heartfelt thank you.
Wow! Awesome video. I mean your regular stuff is awesome as well, but talking to people and getting to know the chinese people like this is really refreshing. I'd love to see more of this. Keep it up, both of you!
The young Chinese guy should be a college student or college graduate working in a city, and he is now spending Chinese new year with his family. He speaks better English than what I spoke years ago.
Guys, I love your channels and I honestly think videos like this is the best content of yours hands down; I wish you made more! I feel like this particular video has just the perfect amount of everything: scenery shots, you talking to each other and the camera and explaining things, food, and of course interactions with locals (which is imo the most interesting thing). Love it! I personally would love to see more videos/talks/interviews involving local Chinese people.
For all of the preoccupation with spitting in China, its fun to watch as so many sanctimonious Westerners, ignorant of their own cultural history, presume to criticize others when they ironically continue to have issues with the subject in the West. One would think that after 100+ years of attempting to use the law to eliminate the practice in the West, that the issue would be moot - which is - surprise - NOT the case. Spitting in America - Does Law Enforcement Work? hubpages.com/education/Do-American-Laws-Against-Spitting-Do-any-Good and don't miss: Seattle's spitting image is just that, spitting "Everywhere in Seattle, within a bare inch of your person, is superfluous saliva. In some ways, reminds me of Greece. When I lived in Greece, I could go to these little villages in the mountains, or in the islands, such as Crete, where most people had never seen a foreigner. And they were so friendly, and everybody in the village would come out and all together they would take me to a kitchen and prepare their favorite foods, which always included snails. They really enjoyed watching my reactions to eating snails. Delicious, actually. But they have this wine that they call Retsina ... talk about an acquired taste! Retsina tastes like turpentine, and I couldn't take it at first. Eventually I developed a taste for it.
I really appreciate that Chinese guy he really tried to Speak English with you guys and been so nice to you guys

Mind you though, Winstons stroll through the market to the accompaniment of various food sellers hocking-up phlegm would put off even the most ardent food shopper.
This video was stunning, thanks again lads!
This video made my day and made me smile
I never really see that hospitality and friendliness in suburban east coast America
I honestly think this is THE single best video I have ever watched. Made me want to learn Chinese, and sad that I can't speak with people like that, and have those experiences. Amazing work guys.
I love this video! It makes me feel so connected to my Chinese culture and roots!
“Homegrown chickens” where can I buy chicken seeds
That looks like one of the nicer restaurants you've filmed. The food looks awesome!
This is easily one of the best videos you guys have made. The modified translations provided a good laugh. Two thumbs up.
I happen to love when Winston takes off his sun glasses. 😎
RENEE WHITE me too! lol. It's a Winston staple now. 😎
Love your attitude with people in general....Not condescending, not fawning over, just nice and normal....
Love your videos!
One of your best videos yet love getting to see the people in the restaurant. great to see how happy and proud the people are about their work.
Awesome video. I love seeing rural China, and honestly I'm a bit of a clean freak myself especially when it comes to food so I doubt I'd last long, but that food looks great. Love seeing how they grow the crops and keep chickens out back.
aaron 你连人家在讲什么都看不懂就别在这里丢人现眼了
this is probably now my favorite video
Honestly not that any of your videos are bad or anything... But this was a new level!
Awesome Work!
4:44 The faces on those kids while seeing a foreigner for the first time are priceless.
This is a absolute awesome video and a joy to watch, I love the great Hospitality and friendliness at that restaurant, those people were really super cool with you guy's...
Angel Velazquez you can see another famous channel called Foodranger
+Jian Yang Yes I know about it.
this video was awesome....I need a whole series like these. love the interaction and editing in captions is highly appreciated
I wish I could have this experience! The restaurant owners were fantastic! This was so nice to see! Loved this video, especially at the end with the older man having fun with the drone! He never would have had that experience if you guys hadn't stopped there. That is sooo freaking cool!
That old dude at the end, so funny :D
when u get old like that, u will be as funny
Keeping curiosity makes you interesting
wow people are surprisingly nice there!
They were so friendly. Even more so than other places.
They reminded me of my family and grandparents. My family was originally from China, but left shortly after WW2 to go to Taiwan.
Grandfather was. Fought both the communists and the Japanese.
Great video. I like talking Chinese with the locals and subtitling it. Hope to see more like this in the future.
They provide great depth and dimension to life in China.
hey I've been following yall for about 6 months now and I have to say this was my favorite episode so far!!!! especially in the end. lol "don't mess with the drone grandpa"
you know you're early when there's no unnecessarily angry chinese people disliking the video yet
This video's quite difficult to dislike
cement factory workers already disliked the video
> This video's quite difficult to dislike
Well they do mention that lots of restaurants are scammy / filthy, so at least there's _some_ unpleasant truth to throw a hissy-fit over! :p
Kikuli Kokuli someone was raging over the spitting in comments. Yup for those 5 secs. XD
+Youpie Curry like most of our other videos right?
物以稀为贵,事实上不只是外国人,只要是比较少见的,中国人都很热情。
12:39 "Really great stuff. Overall... eating in the rural China is fantastic."
I transcribed for the non native english listeners, like me.
Understanding C-Milk's fast talk is a real challenge. It took me a while to get to this point where I can understand C-Milk speaking with his mouth full of food. I feel so proud of myself. I deserve a prize or something.
That was really amazing, loved everything, also skipping the usual call to action of like/comment/subscribe felt good
Just Retribution it's 5 seconds of video tops
That little kitchen garden was awesome!
I rate this video as, "Too Awesome!". You guys are great. Your language skills are enviable. Would love to try the food.
That old Grandpa is the best. Looks like everyone will remember you guys in that village.
I see n7 and think mass effect
Because it is
Its the Mass Effect N7 Replica Jackets from Captain Shepard. You cant get them in varying quality on the internet ;)
We'll bang okay?
Great. Mass Effect is great
i share your videos with my friends all the time. we play alot with chinese people and you have helped me seem them in a better light. DONT HATE ON THESE GUYS! they make you look GOOD!
Nice video. Well done. Captured the rural lifestyle pretty well. Shows normal people in their everyday lives
John Yang Yeah that sounds like Vermont.
Yes, Chinese American. That is the People's Republic of China. If you want a better version, go to Taiwan.
"there are still places in China, where people had never seen foreigners" - yes, check those villages in Guizhou, they hide in the mountains and even the local government can't really keep in touch with them
The Vermont people ask to take a picture with you? Tell them they're too English and walk away. That will teach them.
banana in the milk!! That's hilarious
This is why I love this channel. You guys make me want to go to China so bad.
Josh Gage watch another channel called Foodranger, you will come sooner
ERIC Sheng don't think so . This is his first time to talk with a native English speaker. All universities have native English speaker
One of your best videos so far, Would love to meet you guys in china or if you ever come to the UK. . . 来自英国的问候
Wow! You guys are on another level with theses new videos!!
Thanks for these videos guys! I'm coming to china next week to study for 4 months and these videos have been really interesting and helpful!
Might be the first time Winston has finally got someone spitting on camera.
You're correct!
Congrats, big milestone since that was way more elusive than it should have been!
Better that than spitting in the food
For all of the preoccupation with spitting in China, its fun to watch as so many sanctimonious Westerners, ignorant of their own cultural history, presume to criticize others when they ironically continue to have issues with the subject in the West. One would think that after 100+ years of attempting to use the law to eliminate the practice in the West, that the issue would be moot - which is - surprise - NOT the case.

Ironic, aye...
I remember a Korean friend about 20 years ago doing it in the middle of a city mall in australia, and I was so shocked.
felt very immersive this time. keep it up
I never liked tofu until I went vegan and learned how to prepare it. China looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this video! A lot of people think Chinese restaurants/buffets served real Chinese food. HA!
And I see that N7 tag! Good job, Commander ~
