Blessings Dr. Vanman, Thank you for sharing the insightful, informative and educational research video on this subject of Six Degrees of Separation/Small World Phenomenon. This one subject is of particular interest to me. Recently there was a shooting that took place in Rancho Santa Margarita, California which made the mainstream and social media headline news. The incident in question took place at Cook's Corner, a local bar/restaurant well known to the biker community. Three people were shot and killed and six others injured, they were the first link. Everyone there at the event became eyewitnesses, the second link.. Everyone related or connected to the eyewitnesses relatives or friends/relatives of the individuals that were injured or killed are the third link. Then when the news made the airways, everyone watching became the fourth link. The individuals that were in the local communities and those that had visited the establishment became the fifth linked. Within twenty four hours the links expanded incrementally around the world. diagrammatic
@@socialneuro Dr. Vanman, Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to respond to my post. You are absolutely right, this and so many crimes against humanity are absolutely tragic. As I watched the news (real time), I thought of my dear friend who on several occasions mentioned to me that he would go to "Cook's Corner" for Spaghetti Wednesday. It turns out that he was one of the individuals shot ,and lived to tell his version of the story. It also turns out that one of the individuals that was shot, but died at the scene of the crime was an individual that participated with me back in 2018 in an executive conference. Within hours of this event, another friend shared with me that her sister watched the event as it was unfolding and she lives in Italy. News travels must faster now, then ever before which is like a double edge sword along many perspectives. Dr. Vanman, we have much more in common, than the 6 degrees of separation.. I've just completed my Masters in Negotiations, Conflict Resolution and Peace Building. Your videos have sparked my interest in the field, so I am looking for the best university to embark my research. I am pursuing my doctorate in neuropsychology. May I reach out to you for mentorship?
Great video. Imagine if everyone watched this video the amount of conflict/fighting in the world would drop exponentially. Really takes the wind out if the sail of the us vs them mentality that fuels so many conflicts.

As always Eric, great video. Only separated by 1 degree!
Thanks so much, Lou! I hope you’re doing well!!

I think you’re right. We forget how truly interconnected we are!

Yes, we probably all need to remember the small world phenomenon as we deal with others we disagree with. Thank you for your comment!
That’s really interesting. Malcolm Gladwell also discusses the phenomena of super connectors in his book ‘Tipping Point’
I’m pretty sure he talks about the same research I covered. 😉

Wow! Now he’s someone I am glad isn’t within six degrees of separation of me!
