Thanks for this - really great. Do you know what you would make you a TRUE LEGEND? Programming Reaper to import and export AAF/OMF files. Can you do this? This would revolutionise Reaper.
this is literally the answer to my prayers!!!! I love Reaper for what it can do...many features I've wanted from Pro Tools for YEARS, but since I've used Pro Tools for over 20 years in a full production facility, I ran into the exact same challenges as you! I gave Reaper an HONEST try, and it was painful having to constantly switch tools over and over...and even though I LOVED the incredible things Reaper was capable of, I HAD to switch back to Pro Tools because it was honestly just plain faster. But in the back of my mind, I was wishing somebody could do this exact thing!!!! Thank you so much! I can't wait to try it out!!!! Such a great New Years gift!
Yes!!! I am Reaper user but I've seen my friends in different studios using PT and I wanted to try to implement the PT editing flow into Reaper because it looks very intuitive and faster just from the factory :P Thank you for your work bro and greetings from Poland! :D
nice. Still prefer my custom actions for editing. No need to click or select. Just point and hit the arrow buttons. BUT I do get that some PT users cant figure out to unlearn the pT shortcuts and do not want to learn reaper to the extend of knowing how to make super simple custom actions. We are not all geeks. SO: great work for those who like PT! Huge work you did. Well done!! Reaper rules supreme.
Excellent work!! Thank you yet again. You have pushed Reaper to become the industry standard. If you have a list of the shortcuts I will make keyboard overlays for everyone. I’ll make three overlays. Each optimized for tracking, editing, and mixing.
OMG this is amazing! Exactly! PT is a mill that edits as fast as you are capable. Outstanding!! Now, you figuring a way to open an old 5.1 PT session in Reaper? HAHA
Mind... melted. I have never been PT user and I still watched the whole fire works. Just. Amazing. Still interested in better workflows in Reaper. I'm struggling with track envelopes, refining my automations in mixing phase is just annoying... I'm propably missing something though. Any ways, nice work sir!
Actually REAPER was made because editing, cutting, x-fading etc was so horrendously bad in Pro Tools...We went to Avid to ask if these things could be improved, Avid said not only wouldn't they, but that some of them really couldn't be done....We had to show them that REAPER was already doing it, so REAPER was continued
As someone who has only ever used Reaper and honestly doesn't understand why you'd use PT outside of legacy reasons, I don't know why I watched this, but it was very interesting. Honestly it's another gold start for Reaper's fantastic capability. I also realized that if I tried to pick up Pro Tools tomorrow I'd probably want to put my head through a wall within half an hour. I think I'll not do that, then, eh? ;)
I never used PT and just learned how to use REAPER but I tip my hat off to you for learning how to get what you wanted. PS: do you use DaVinci Resolve for Video Editing?
Yes. I started out with premiere for a couple of years but then switched to resolve in less than a week and never went back I've been using resolve for quite some time now
I am wondering about the pro tools editing modes that can also be very useful - shuffle, spot, slip and grid. I never used shuffle much but I use all the others and spot mode is great for manually replacing samples on the timeline.
Shuffle is the most useless thing ever. There's ripple editing i have it in the toolbar it is kinda like Shuffle but not really. Slip and grid are snapping in reaper you have the magnet icon on the toolbar also. For the spot you can double click on the clip to open properties an put the exact location you want the clip to move to
Very good video. A bit so quick here and there, but all in all very informative. I use Reaper to record and edit because it's very very easy and intuitive. Even the plugins are really good! But I don't like to mix with it because I find that the volume or panning curves are not so smooth like in Cubase (which I use to do the task). Another is the MIDI editor, I still prefer Cubase's, but slowly I am getting accustomed to Reaper's.
well done Daniel , this is very help full .. i have been using repear as my main mixing Daw this tools and shortcut are very handy .. ,would you make a playlist mixing full band in reaper like sidechain ing eq envelopes everthing in reaper
Can you please make a full features video ? You had said in vide0 that you would have needed to make a separate video to include all shortcuts and workflow to migrate from PT . Thanks and please if you decide to do I wouldn’t mind paying for it haha

@otmamto like protools. Even the midi editor is like protools. I didn't show it in this video because it would be too long but it's the same navigation like the Arrange view. R and T to zoom horizontally, shift+scrollwheel for horizontal scrolling, scrollwheel for vertical scrolling

@geoffwoodwogga because someone who works full time in a voice over studio on protools can't afford to spend a ton of time learning an entirely new program. And this doesn't cripple reaper in any way, you can have multiple different shortcut lists and switch very quickly between them in reaper
Hey Daniel! I did everything you explained but when I try to import your configuration it say Error Opening. I'm a mac user. Is there any alternative to import your configuration? moving the individuals scripts, icons etc??? Thank you so much, awesome work. Willing to try it!
yeah you can do that but you will have to assign all the shortcuts and mouse modifiers manually and change all the necessary settings in reaper. it's a very messy process. it's not a mac problem because i imported the same file on my work imac and there was no problem. what's the error you're getting? did you try doing a portable install like i showed in the beginning of the video?
@seventhtower no I'm not doing anything specific to this version and new software is always compatible with older files. The potential problem is trying to use a file made with the new version on a much older version. Nothing to worry about here
