molasses "Muh-LASS-ess"/"Moh-LASS-ess" = the thick brown/black liquid left over after sugar has been refined. it's flavor is a little bitter, a little sweet, slightly smoky, and very tasty. it comes in several varieties. the "lowest" is called Blackstrap and it is the molasses that i prefer because of it's stronger, less refined taste. historically, molasses was often used to make rum.
a good cheese-dip base : equal parts of the following : heavy cream cream cheese (or neufchatel) grated cheese (cheddar, gruyere, emmenthaler, etc. i prefer cheddar.) in a large pot, warm the cream. (NEVER let it boil.) add cream cheese in 1 ounce (30g) cubes. stir slowly and constantly until the cream cheese is mostly melted. add the grated cheese slowly while continuing to stir. let it blend into the mix before adding more. when all the cheese has been incorporated, remove from heat and pour into a bowl with lid. >>> dip will get thicker as it cools
If you warm up the cheese and salsa dip in the microwave for a minute or two, the texture gets nicer and you taste the salsa more. Trust a Texan to steer you right on Tex-Mex.🤠
Take a look at your scissors and see IF they need to be cleaned. In the past I noticed when I was using a pair to cut packing tape...some of the tape adhesive would be left on the scissor blades. Take something like white vinegar or rubbing alcohol and rub down the blades to get all that residue off. You'll find they'll cut better again.
Molasses is the bottom of the slurry when sugar is processed. It’s very dark brown, it’s sweet with a strong flavor. However, unlike the white sugar, Blackstrap molasses is full of vitamins and minerals like magnesium, manganese and iron.
Gingersnap cookies make a great pie crust for all sorts of pies. Just crush them until fine crumbs and add melted butter to form a "dough", press into pie dish. Then make your favorite pumpkin pie, lemon pie or key lime pie. The flavors of lime and ginger together are my favorite. :)
Carol, I am like you. I would rather have a bag of chips than a piece of cake!! A nice cheese and meat tray is amazing. Would love to see how you create yours
The cheese and salsa might be better after being heated. Molasses is a very old alternative to sugar, it has a ginger like taste, it's a dark liquid when bought in store. Put your chip clips to good use, 2-3 bags per clip. Pennsylvania has a large German and Amish population that make great stuff
TastyKake (since 1914) is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes are good if you refrigerate them & they are also available with dark chocolate. Herr's (since 1953), Martin's (since 1941), Middlewarth (since 1942), & Utz (since 1921) are made in Pennsylvania. My favorite is Martin's Kettle Cooked Potato Chips & Martin's Potato Rolls. Pumpkin Butter can be eaten on toast or crackers. I hate to break the news to Recky, but you have barely scratched the surface of peanut butter flavored foods available in U.S. We have peanut butter cereal, peanut butter in middle of pretzels, & even peanut butter in ice cream & so much more.
I love apple butter on some warm toast with melted butter. It's delicious. The peach would go well with some gouda. I could see someone dipping the snaps into a cream cheese dip.
Here's a tip for sharpening your scissors. If you can get ahold of some fine grit sandpaper, just cut a few strips of the sandpaper with the dull scissors and it will sharpen your scissors ✂️.
Try the Utz with an ice cold coke or ginger ale. Try warming the cheese and salsa .ginger snaps with cold milk ,love it. Please refrigerator after opening.Have you had peanut butter Christmas cookies ? Put the pumpkin butter on toast, enjoy the black raspberry jam.
Yes, we have so many choices of flavors and brands when shopping. We have entire aisles dedicated for certain things. Like cereal, soda/juice and chips especially. There are entire aisles 25-30ft long with just chips or just cereals. It’s overwhelming sometimes!
I’m turning into my grandmother….never thought I would enjoy watching 2 people eat.😂😂😂 Glad you guys got to try snacks from my region, PA. TastyKake is a regional brand and made right here in Philadelphia my city. I like to eat ginger snaps soaked in milk to soften them up. Glad you enjoyed the snacks!
People around the world have no idea of the infinite amount of choices we have in this country! Y'all could do videos like this trying all new things everyday for probably a few years and still not get through everything. And, don't worry about how you talk, say what you feel, if people don't like, they don't have to watch. It's their God given right as an American.........to change the channel.
@@TammyToo by the way, we probably do, it's just under a different name, you just haven't found it yet. You see, they're not allowed to have all the millions of choices we do because their economy relies on them buying Swedish goods and services to keep their economy going. America is the only true, ultimate, free market economy that is so strong, the more international and domestic competition the better. We export so much, we can import anything we want because it still won't make a dent in our domestic production.......capice? ; )
17:43 something you could try if interested. Freezing the salsa/sauce/cheese/whatever in plastic bags or make ice cube and then place in plastic bag(easier to portion/thaw few sauce icecubes). You can also do this with chips/cookies Amd stop sticking your fingers in those jars. Always use a clean utensil. Adding bacteria and germs to your freshly opened foods by way of finger, only add to going bad or moldy.
The pumpkin butter is really good spread on a mild cheese. I like it on farmers cheese. The other jams go really good with peanut butter on bread that's been toasted.
And I LOVE CHEESE! Cheese platters/charcuterie boards are one of my favorite indulgences. My favorite fruit and cheese pairing is pears and blue cheese.
These videos are fun for me. I see brands that I have never tried. Different regions have different brands. I'm from St. Louis Missouri and now live in North Mississippi. Both regions have different brands.
Hi from another Carol! wonderful unboxing! Molasse is the base of our gingerbread cakes and gingerbread cookies. also used in some BBQ sauces and Baked Beans. The TastyKake butterscotch krumpets have been my favorite since I was very young! Butterscotch is made from from brown sugar, butter, cream and vanilla and is boiled into a syrup and used for flavoring cakes, icings and as a topping (warmed up) over ice cream. The pumpkin butter and if anyone sends you apple butter can be used on anything you would use a jam or fruit preserves on. My dad's family came from the Penn Dutch area and we would eat the apple butter on top of cottage cheese, sounds weird, but so good and different!
Yes. My mother would say biscuits must be served steaming hot, fresh from the oven, with a good-sized pat of butter melting into them, and only then do you put gravy, honey, jelly, jam, or whatever on them.
You can also put them in a container or ziplock bag with a slice or two of regular white bread. It’ll soften them up within hour. Works with any cookies.
"What Is Molasses? Molasses is a thick, dark syrup made during the sugar-making process. First, the sugar cane is crushed and the juice is extracted. The juice is then boiled to form sugar crystals and removed from the liquid. The thick, brown syrup left after removing the sugar from the juice is molasses."
TamTip: Don't dip into your jars because the starch off your chips has only the life of bread-like products. So your salsa will grow molds nearly as fast as damp/wet bread. Try putting your dip in small dipping bowl and dispose of the uneaten leftover in bowl. Return jar of salsa to refrigerator after filling dip bowl. Do the same with other American products too. It is never wise to mix products. It shortens their freshness life. If you are not going to use your dips and sauces soon put it towards the back of refrigerator so it is not warmed often by opening the door. It extends the life of them a little longer. I sometimes take a felt pen and mark the label with the date I opened the jar so I have an idea when to dispose of them. love you two! 🌸
What an incredible box. It was wonderful to see your reactions to the treats. Make sure you refrigerate that pumpkin butter or jams after you open them. They must stay refrigerated. Praying you are both well and doing good. Much love, Breadmaker!
I'm from outside of philadelphia pennsylvania , I have been eating tasty cakes all my life , The first one you tried the peanut butter candy cake is one of my all time favorites, I hope you enjoy one of our local favorite Snacks.
To sharpen the scissors, cut aluminum foil with them. Also on the boxes of wrap you've been sent, both foil and plastic, there are triangle shapes on the end. Push them in and it'll help hold the rolls in the box. Love watching ALL the videos❤❤❤
Use leftover chips, crackers and non-sugary cereals (like cornflakes) as a crunchy topping for casseroles. I make casseroles by layering whatever leftover vegetables and meats I have. Then topping with butter mixed with cheese and crumbled leftover chips, pretzels, crackers or cereals. Great way to use leftovers or give life to the chips you didn't care for as much. You can Google American casseroles to get actual recipes but casseroles are forgiving, make them your own, as you like, with what you have. :)
Apple Butter (crazy delicious) and Pumpkin Butter are spreads and commonly slathered on buttered toast, or toasted bagels or whatever grabs you. I can eat homemade Apple Butter with a spoon - like Apple Sauce. Mmmm....
You can keep those open bags of chips and other snacks in the fridge. It will keep them fresher longer. I keep mine in the fridge and they stay fresh about twice as long.
molasses (muh-LA-suhs) is a syrup byproduct of refining sugar. it is very thick and the darkest grade is called "blackstrap". It is loaded with iron, antioxidants, B6, potassium and other healthy stuff. it tastes terrible alone (imho) but is used for its distinct flavor and texture in bbq sauce, baked beans, and gingerbread cookies. molasses comes from the latin word for honey-like.
Pumpkin Butter and Apple Butter are usually put on buttered toast. There is nothing wrong in using as you like as my sister uses Apple Butter in one of her cookie recipes. Tortilla is pronounced tor-tee-yah as the two elles are pronounced as a "y" sound. I love watching your reactions to things different than what is sold in your country as I'm an American currently living in New Zealand and am having difficulty with the British types of foods here.
Great box. The cheese and salsa dip tastes better if you warm it in the microwave or stovetop. I've never tasted that brand though. If you don't like the salsa on chips, you can pour it over chicken breasts and bake it in the oven. Melt cheddar cheese on top and garnish with sour cream, black olives, or green onions. It's good served with rice.
I love peanut butter Kandy Kakes but I never get the 3 packs sold in convenience stores, always this box of 2 packs. My mom used to make her own version of them with a thin sheet cake and peanut butter and chocolate on top.
The Tasty Kakes Peanut butter Candy Cakes were my mom’s favorite! I remember one time I called her if she needed to stock up with food supplies just before a hurricane…. Thinking she’d need milk, butter, bread… but no, she wanted 3 boxes of Tasty Kakes! 😂😂
A ham and cheese with mustard and BBQ chips put some of the chips on the sandwich. Warm some of the cheese and salsa and make some taco meat and pour over the corn chips to make nachos. The pumpkin butter on toast with butter or spread on pancakes instead of the syrup.
Home Depot box and their own giant bubble wrap! I recently quit my job at Home Depot for many reasons and am now working at a different store that is more fun. I never heard of most of these brands either. Must be a Northeast thing, just like Big Red can be found in Oklahoma City and farther South. Unfortunately, we don't have Big Red in Tulsa. Probably because we aren't far south enough, even though OKC really isn't much further South. Certain stores of ours have chip aisles that are longer than you could ever imagine, filled with nothing but chips.
Pumpkin Butter (like Apple Butter) is typically eaten with hot buttered biscuits or cornbread. Eating alongside a cheese tray is also perfectly great as well. Enjoy!
I would love to see you blend your style of food with some of ours. Would be something to see and try here at home. Thanks for sharing and GOD bless you.
My Gf loves the tastykake peanut butter tandy cakes. About 15 years ago they changed the formula of the cake mixture, was much moister then. I know most of those brands as they are local to me
Fun video, as always! Barbecue flavored stuff is great, isn’t it? There are different types of barbecue, as you’ve noticed, different levels of sweet and spice, and yum! What a nice box that was!
Then they wont be so hard for Carol to eat. The jams are great on morning toast or American biscuits. Love it. This includes the pumpkin butter or apple buter!!😊
Best way to preserve your salsa from turning moldy is to put some into a bowl (making sure to use a very clean spoon), rather than using chips to scoop it right out of the jar.
Great video. Recky did a wonderful job opening the packages. Carol, you inspire me to take smaller bites because I shove entire potato chips and cookies into my mouth. You're amazing people.
Knowing how both of them love peanut butter(unfortunately I am on a fixed income & really have no disposable income), can I suggest to any of my fellow Texans or other fans throughout the country to include in their care package Jif’s to go cup peanut butter & bag of Rold Gold pretzel sticks; for those times I get a hankering for them, they are portable & make a great snack when you wake up in the middle of the night, great when watching films or just for the heck of it. Recky & Carol, you both make my day; started watching Recky & his tornado reactions, then naturally gravitated to your other channels; good luck with your house(good things come to good people), love to you & your fur babies; have a great rest of the week & weekend; take care & stay safe; peace & hugs. 🤗🤗🥰🥰❤️❤️🐱🐱🐱☮️☮️
My dad used to enjoy apple butter or pumpkin butter on cottage cheese. He also liked applesauce on cottage cheese. Really, just try the pumpkin butter on toast.
Also I agree with you two... peanut butter can get to be 'too much'. Americans do not eat it every day. It is a crave. When we want or see something that is peanut flavored that is when we have it. We have peanuts often too so PB is not so needed. We use it in powder form too to make protein drinks when we are trying to increase muscle and strength. (It is easy protein) So you do not need to apologize. These reaction items are just for trying and not for every day...

Charcuterie board. That's what it's called when you have cheeses, meats, fruits, crackers and spreads on a board.
To sharpen your scissors just cut up some aluminum foil with them until they are sharp again.
fry some sausage and add it to the salsa and cheese then try it with the chips.
Yes, we do have a whole isle of chips and pretzels in most grocery stores.

There actually IS an entire aisle just for chips. And it's a pretty long aisle in most stores.
You can start using all the bag clips you’ve received in unboxings to clip those bags closed after opening. 😊
We do 😊
Good thing someone sent u all them chip clips
Awesome video 👍👍 Really enjoyed watching

My favorite way to have pumpkin and apple butter is on a bagel with cream cheese and then slather a ton on top.
We use the ginger snaps to make a crust for an Egg Nog cheesecake dessert. Yummy The bite of the ginger goes well with the creamy cheesecake.

Pumpkin butter is great on hot biscuits!!!
The snaps are great if you dip them in coffee.
'What is this with the GDamn tape?!' just hit my funny bone. I had to pause the video for a couple minutes and just belly for a bit. Good stuff!
Pumpkin butter on toast.😎😎😎😎
Carol, I am like you. I would rather have a bag of chips than a piece of cake!! A nice cheese and meat tray is amazing. Would love to see how you create yours
dip the ginger snaps in coffee....yum
The peach and the berry jams can also be heated and used as a glaze on meat too
Chips on a ham sandwich is great 😊
I do chips bologna and ketchup sandwich my

Rubber bands work to close the bags. Fold them over & use the band to keep the bag folded.
I use binder clips. They work great.
I use the pinch clothes pins that are used to hang wet laundry up to dry.
Pennsylvania is home to most major and small potato chip and hard pretzel companies fron the Pennsylvania Dutch or Amish for hundreds of years
Make sure to put the butters and jams and salsa cheese dip in fridge after opening they will last longer.

There are different peanut butter brands and styles. Almond butter, walnut butter, creamy, crunchy, super crunchy, organic, natural,

The utz salt and vinegar or any salt and vinegar chip here in united states is usually when you're having a beer, they go really good with a beer
Try heating up the salsa cheese dip in a small microwave safe bowl and eat it with corn chips instead of potato. It'll taste a lot better that way.
It is best to have a couple of Snaps (apple/cinnamon or ginger) with a cup of coffee. The coffee softens to cookie without making it too soft.
Your cheese tray sounds like a charcuterie board. What you include is totally up to you. They're so much fun. ☺️

I swear yall my foodie fam in the european theater and im all for it lol
That stuff in the jars would be delicious on biscuits in the morning or on toast bread
That cheese and salsa might be good if you scoop some out and microwave it for 30 seconds to warm it up.

It's magic.

put all of those jams on biscuits also the pumpkin butter

Recky & Carol, you both make my day; started watching Recky & his tornado reactions, then naturally gravitated to your other channels; good luck with your house(good things come to good people), love to you & your fur babies; have a great rest of the week & weekend; take care & stay safe; peace & hugs. 🤗🤗🥰🥰❤️❤️🐱🐱🐱☮️☮️
My dad used to enjoy apple butter or pumpkin butter on cottage cheese. He also liked applesauce on cottage cheese. Really, just try the pumpkin butter on toast.
Some good salsa and cheese dip is so good.
Herr's chips are my favorite brand.
You can use the Ginger Snaps in banana pudding instead of vanilla wafers.
Eat the cookies with your coffee to soften them up, Carol!!
