    16:30 I can't see the Dark Hero having the same memory OC, as it has "Optimem 3" and the XE has "Optimem 2". The DH also has no exposed memory traces.

    • @ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking
      @ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking  3 года назад

      the DH has a sticker over the traces. Now if that sticker is made of material that somehow effects the impedance of the traces under it then it could actually do something but I doubt it.

    @buildzoid Any idea why the "b550 xe gaming" is advertised on the asus website as capable of ddr4-4800(oc) but the way cheaper "b550 f gaming" is advertised as capable of ddr4-5100? What might be the reason for that?

    • @ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking

      IDK most boards that advertise ddr4 5100 just rely on the insane crucial 5100 kit which does over 5000 on every board I used it on. (Didn't bother with it on the strix since Bdie is better for benching)

    The VRM fan 25:10 is quite useful with CPU watercooling, where you may not get much airflow over the VRM area. And that heatsink does not look to work too well in completetly still air. I wonder if you can just disconnect that fan when using a CPU air cooler...

    • @fleurdewin7958
      @fleurdewin7958 3 года назад

      The fan has ZERO use other than collecting more dust even with water cooling setup .This board has 14 units of 90Amp power stages for the Vcore alone . There is no CPU on AM4 platform that can use even half as much power that the board is capable of delivering. Even with half the power stages, it is good enough for the AM4 platform with a good heatsink and no fan. That is the configuration that ITX boards get these days due to physical space constraints.

My Asus boards does 3800MHz dual rank with both B-die and DJR at 1.4V, so for daily use nothing much to complain about. Yo. You could try to add a ground layer in that space between the memory and CPU.
    How? Use double sided plastic tape for electric isolation and add a copper tape above it and fix/solder a ground on that tape.
    Would require some precise cutting. to fit it around the caps.
    If you end using multiple strips of copper tape to go around corners and caps make sure that they are making a connection with the strips below. The adhesive on the the tape can work as a electrical isolator and you might need to bight the strips of tape with solder to make a good connection.
    You can add a additional layer of normal tape to hide the copper layer.

    It's a BIOS/UEFI bug. You need to set the desired timings in ALL THREE places, only then will memory OC work reliably. Setting it in any 1 or 2 of the 3 places, and leaving the others on 'auto', will result in occasional (or sometimes, always) boot loops as though the timing was unstable and it's trying to retrain until it fails the third time and drops to the BIOS. You know the failure, you've seen it.
    This bug has been in the system since release and has been reported to Asus some years ago.

      maybe adding a second can between the DIMMs and CPU, I recall that mattered back in x370 days, so may be part of it, yet them exposed traces will wreck any gains ye probably can get out of cap-mods, lol. I recall a lot of the x470 boards having 2 cans there, and I guess ASUS couldn't be bothered to do that, lol.
      I do second the curiosity of if it will do anything.
