I remember seeing Nick Daddy Friday in Antigua for carnival and all the guys in navy blue shirts with back bone in the back on a big 🚛 in St. John's and it was dynamic, went to St. Kitts later that year in December for carnival and Eddie and the Movement was there with the vintage back bone song, RIP Nick!!
This song was written and first song by Far-I-Selah, aka Samuel A. Dabrio, a visual and performing artist and native of Antigua W.I. who resided in St. THOMAS.
Here is a little anecdote. In Anguilla there was this man named Eddie who used to transport his sheep and goats everyday in an open pickup truck through the Valley (town) to take them to a pasture and back home in the afternoon. The operation was given the name " Eddie & the Movements."
1980 AND 1981 were the best years in Sugar City (St.Kitts) Eddie and De movements,,,,Madingo Brass,,,Imagi,,, Wrecking Crew,,,Elli Matt & The G.I's Brasss... you could never get better music than from these bands....this tune bring back so many memories of St.Kitts and The US Virgin Islands... woooow!!
boy do I miss this type of calypso. the junk they singing today makes me shake my head not my waist! Does anybody know where "Mikey" is? He played in jam band back in the 70's -80"s?
I also agree 100%; you can't even dance to taday's soca music. I also felt safe going out. Today, 3 people got shot at jouvert. I stay far away from any carnival activities.
@BiracialRuDEBwoY I agree 2000%. Ridim box was a nice addition in the mid 80's but it took the live musicianship out of the music. And now the horns are almost completely extinct. I feel sorry for those young people who have never experienced this brand and quality of music. It was a time when every band had there own sound and style. Now everyone sounds the same because they're using the same drum machines, samples and singing styles.
i think VI soca needs to go back in time and sound like it does here. real instrumentation with very clear sounds. im sorry but alot of VI soca now adays sounds like a hot mess and its embarrasing
