    Excellent analysis -as always! We could even add the requirement for the home MOT, otherwise your insurance is not valid. Or, if you left your home insurance country for more than 180 days, suddenly your insurance is not valid. All in the fine print. So this is a misair for the RTW bikers. Thank you for your excellent videos. Big respect Pavlin!

    Insurance is a nightmare to work out, especially internationally.
    As an Australian, my last 2 trips to Europe have included travel insurance, which is highly recommended but trying to find a company that will insure you for riding a motorcycle greater than 250cc is difficult, there are not many, it pays to check and double check.
    I want to send my bike to Europe in 2023 and the insurance is a pain, first I need it registered and here in Victoria it has to have third party insurance to be registered, then once it gets to Europe I need green card insurance, another TPI, then with travel insurance, basically another form of medical insurance which the other 2 cover but Australian TPI no good in Europe.
    All that just to insure me, insuring the bike for damages is almost impossible for a foreign registered bike, never mind fire and theft.
    I would love to know if there is a company that has insurance coverage for non Euro or British residents on a non Euro or British registered bike.
    Great topic Pavlin 👍👍👍

    Very good cautionary tales for all motorcyclists, not just adventure riders . In regards to life insurance, all too often it would involve large legal fees for next of kin just to collect their settlement . Personally, I normally would just opt for the required liability insurance . Medical insurance is another story, and should also be researched fully if a person doesn't already have it . Whenever possible, I think property damage and theft of ones personnel property should be a self-insured factor to be factored-in when one buys their equipment and an incentive ride within your limits, and to secure your equipment as best as possible against theft . Personnel responsibility; live within your limits -- just like gambling .

    Great topic. I can add an example. I travel with a friend often and he always pays for a traveling insurance. Never read the papers. He just need to have peace of mind. I don't pay and save money for beer in evenings :-). One evening I actually asked him to give me his insurance papers so I can read it. It was covering nothing at all. Even if someone stole his luggage it was not covering him because that was only for luggage lost in airport or bus station. Not stolen on a street. No mention of accidents no health things. But he had his peace of mind because he had insurance :-) Actually on one trip he had a problem with motorbike (broken bearing in rear wheel). He never even thought about insurance. He just called a friend if he can come for us by car with trailer

    In Italy if you need an answer for the 3 questions you have to go to Aci and get the gold card that will cover everything . My friend broke his leg in Grease when he was offroad and they had to send a helicopter to pick him up .They sent him and his bike the next day to Rome and he did not pay anything more. The card is called Aci Oro.

    A topic that needs to be highlighted, thank you Pavlin.
    With respect to additional legal cover, in the UK, most legal companies who specialise in motorcycle law will tell you not to waste your money. The legal cover you will get will be appointed by your insurance company, often from a "panel" of available lawyers, they may have no experience of motorcycle incidents or even motoring cases. By paying for "legal cover" you have handed over responsibility for legal representation to your insurance company, essentially the lawyer will be working for your insurance company and may be under pressure to minimise their costs or accept partial responsibility as an easy way out rather than find the best solution for the insured.
    Better to ensure that the first thing you or your family do (after completing legally required obligations to Police etc.) is engage a motorcycle specialist legal company, many of them will work on a no win no fee basis (often they are motorcyclists themselves) and recover their costs from your insurance company (who have to use their own appointed lawyers anyway). In short get someone who has an interest in the outcome for you or your family to get the best result in the long term.

    Since you mentioned the Garmin GPS....I great device to have on you to use in remote location for emergencies is a portable Amateur Radio. There are many types. Some require a license some don't. But a Radio on you is a good option because cell phone might not work in a remote area, but radio signals travel much longer and they might save your life. Also, no monthly subscription. Just do your homework before you go on your trip and lookup local communication frequencies in the countries that you visit. Most information is publicly available online.

    I live in the USA. If you’re going remote the Garmin InReach is great to have. But it’s even better if you have emergency helicopter insurance. Because a short trip will cost thousands plus a tow truck to pick up your motorcycle. Your motorcycle insurance may pay for the tow truck depending on how far and how hard it takes to get it.

    Most serious insurance companies will create a suitable package for you. A good broker will ask you about any hobbies/sports or dangerous activities that you might take part in and based on that, you will receive an offer, usually with some additional payment, it is the same for people who smoke. I'm talking about life insurance here. If the broker doesn't ask anything about you, then finish your coffee and look elsewhere.

    Where I am if you don't have insurance and someone causes an accident with you, it is considered your fault as you should not have been there to be hit.
    It is not logical, but insurance companies have influence with law makers. If you do not have full coverage and someone hits you, it is up to you to deal with the other parties insurance. One needs to pay extra for a policy that will protect you if the person causing the accident does not have insurance, or a limited policy that does not cover your full expenses.

      @@motorcycleadventures People should really read it.
      People should be aware all what they are doing with their phones. What they give consent to. In this case they want to read out your full contact list. Know who you phone and how long. How you use your phone in general. The amount of private data they are getting by that is utterly enormous. And if someone in your contactlist is neglected to do so then it is also you and me that are getting hurt. It is really sickening. But people rather stick their head in the sand. They are VERY expensive and only the newer 403 MHz devices have SarSat (Aviation and Maritime system) older devices rely on 121 MHz which is terrestrial based with limited range, again used only in Aviation & Maritime industries.

    All insurance companies are liars and thieves! I have own experience even it was not my fault. To be honest, because of brand new motorcycle I have casco, but only for some time, maybe first year or two. Except it I have just mandatory insurance. No life, no traveling, nothing but mandatory. Insurance is just an insurance for bad luck. Insurance companies create a completely unjustified feeling of fear and people then succumb to a false security, which is a security only under very specific conditions and does not apply to travellers or actively living people. I insured my house. Everything, apart from the exorbitant price of the insurance, seemed fine, until I asked if it also covered floods. The agent told me it was, but the watercourse had to be at least half a kilometre or so from the house. I told him I had a creek right next to the house. So he immediately dropped that kind of insurance. As I write, they are just liars and thieves. Just look at the insurance company's assets. If the insurance is so necessary, they can't make money on it! and since they make billions and we just pay and either nothing happens, or in the event of an accident they find excuses not to pay, it is necessary to consider very carefully what and how to insure. If at all. The vast majority of the time it is a complete waste of money, often, especially for travel purposes, unreasonably high.

    • @EugeneYunak
      @EugeneYunak Год назад +2

      i think you completely misunderstood the talking points of this video. kasko is a vehicle insurance. street-legal, registered vehicle on a public road to be more precise. try taking your gs off pavement in Romania, and break a leg while failing off of it at the nearest patch of mud. see how much your swiss kasko will pay you. hint: 0chf for repairs, and 0chf for your leg. they won’t even pay for the paint scratches since you were not on a public road. if your adventures are confined to Swiss roads, then more power to you, but this video (and indeed most of this channel) is not about your kinds of adventures.

    • @happyswissjoe
      @happyswissjoe Год назад

      Sorry you are incorrect. I have friends working in the insurance industry. Most reinsurance are done via Swiss companies. In your country perhaps this is the case. For us Swiss riders and drivers who pay “a lot”, everything and most things are covered including going off the normal road. What is not covered are racing or extreme sports (maybe that’s your off-road definition).
      Sadly insurance in Switzerland and insurance in many other countries are not the same. I found it out by living here and I discovered “real” insurance (which you don’t have).

      True, insurance worth, is relevant to each country, but 1000 euro a year for a person with 1000 euro salary per month, is a lot. I am sure the salaries in Switzerland can justify such insurance fees. The root of the matter is how greedy/ reasonable, or not, the insurance companies are.
