Thank you!!!!! This video helped me repair the Corbin Mortise Lock for the front door. The pictures of the inside are a big help so I could make sure all parts are in the right place.
I love we working on these old locks. I never throw out even the worst of them without opening them up and salvage parts. Especially springs. Wish you could have heard me yelling at you to break out the vise. Lol. Nice Job Jason..
So enlightening. Very very helpful. Outstanding work! Could we send you a mortise lock to repair if we decide to repair all functions? It is currently working only to latch the door, not lock it, because it was too difficult a puzzle for our brains. Folks say that locksmiths won't work on these anymore.
I do locksmith work on the beach in Florida. Many of the condos and beach houses have these mortis locks with Euro cylinders. They are newer locks. Off brands. Should I waste my time and their money taking them apart. Just today I had one where 3 out of 4 doors the key would turn and stop where the deadbolt won't come out. So the doors wouldn't lock. Some locks I've seen lock with the handle being pushed up. It's very aggravating. Since I don't have parts I gave them a number to a larger locksmith company. Is there a solution? Can they be easily replaced or repaired? Thanks.
I know this is an old video, but if you need spring steel, find a newer wiper blade but instead of the stainless steel, look for the black steel ones, some are wide some are split and not as wide, you may have to grind or cut to the width you need, you will enough for several springs and you can heat and retemper if you have to and maybe cool in oil instead of water.
GKeyman565 that’s a great idea for spring steel, I still haven’t found a real source for it like locksmiths used to could buy :( ESP used to make a tube full of various widths but apparently don’t anymore
this video saved my day... you are my hero... thank you so much for this video... in my case the thumb turn cam disc came out of the back plate and I didnt know what to do. your video made it clear for me. do you know what year these locks are from ? and if I wanted to replace them today what are my options ?
I love these old locks. I just took out an old corbin mortise lock from a door on the house i used to live in. It has a patent date of june 8 1880. Lol. And was probably installed shortly after that. Still in great shape too. How old is this one you are working on?
I’m looking for this same case. Customer pried his lock from the door. He cut his spindle off flush with the door he didn’t realize it was split and would come out. He bent the mounting ears and broke one trying to bend it back.
Just found you and watched your vid and enjoyed immensely. Just wondering if you or anyone else could tell me where I can find spring steel To use in these old mortise locks or a place that has replacement spring steel pcs for them?
Google flat steel stock and try to find a assortment lot. You will run out of popular width fast if your a locksmith but you can always use the extra stock you have just takes more time to slim down .
Awesome. I have the exact same lock on my door. I'm trying to reverse the cylinder on this lock. I have a right hand front door that opens by pushing forward. When I turn the key, it locks to the right, not to the left. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Nice work and lovely old lock :-)
Awesome video! I just cleaned up the exact same corbin lock in my front door.
I always enjoy working on mortise locks. It's a shame we don' t have more of them in the Phoenix market. Nice video.

Toby Cadenhead Thanks for this idea! Worked perfectly! Just had to find metal banding on a pallet at my local big home improvement place.

apagan65 nothing can be done about the rotation of the key as it interacts with the deadbolt unfortunately:(
@@selock thank you for your quick reply. I appreciate it.
Great job. I hate it when we have fiddly little lock parts that just won't behave 😋
Where do I get spring steel for my Mortise lock?
Earl Elzy there are a variety of steel mfg website (msc direct, precision steel, etc) where you can likely find different sizes of spring steel
Thank you for the video!
sweet!
شكرا جزيلا

I appreciate the video and you ended up with a working lock, but I cringed with you abusing the customers antique lock parts and abused your tools.
