What a shame it's all bogged up. On the other hand at least it's not been decorated with tat and other paraphernalia. It's an interesting excursion and I didn't realize where this place is until you said near Shaftesbury so I've learnt something new today. Well done Dave. 👍

Aye, would be nice if it wasn't so bogged up.
I've got mixed feelings about places being decorated with paraphernalia. I personally feel the decorated trees at Knowlton church look quite nice, whereas the paraphernalia on the Witches Trees at Grovely Woods gives it a bit of a tatty feel. I feel the Puckwell is one of those places that would be worse of for it if people did decorate it.
West Knoyle is very close to East Knoyle which is where Sir Christopher Wren was born. Both places are within easy cycling distance of Shaftesbury :)

@@westcountryexplorer Wells have always been decorated, from rags tied on nearby trees right up to the well dressing in the Peak District. Its a tribute to the spirit of the well, as is sacrificing a coin. And it shows that people still care, and obviously it fills a spiritual need. I'm seeing more random little shrines in the landscape, perhaps its a reaction to the times we live in ? Tatty or not, it's folklore in the making. I think it should be celebrated (and recorded in RUclips videos.... )

@wearsidepsychogeography It could well partly be a sign of the times.
Even though I'm not too keen on how some of the offerings look, I am always pleased to see people feel a place is special enough to have offerings left there.
