  • Bob Prins was born in Holland, Michigan on April 10, 1948. He reported for his draft physical in March 1968 and went to Fort Knox, Kentucky for basic training. He completed Advanced Infantry Training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He deployed to South Vietnam in late summer 1968 and arrived at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in August or September 1968. He was assigned to 3rd Platoon of Charlie Company of the 1st Battalion of the 327th Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. During his time in Vietnam he carried an M60 machine gun and went on patrols in the jungle, searched villages, and guarded bridges on Highway 1 near Hue and Phu Bai. At the end of his 12 month tour in Vietnam he returned to the United States and spent his last five months in the Army at Fort Lewis, Washington.

    Amazing interview....the only respectable part of the Baby Boomer Generation,my parents` generation was the half that served....my father served from `65-`69,and men,real men like Dad,like Mr. Prins,at the very LEAST,deserve a salute from all of us,before it`s too late.......Thank you,Mr. Smithers.......

    On another note. I actually took my draft physical and passed. I got my draft notice while I was in Nam. The first sgt. Took care of that.

    A decent and good man. I knew many like him. On my first tour I was north of Hue city and mingled with a lot of the 101st guys. Good troops.

    I'm surprised he didn't go to eagle Beach north of Hue. I met a lot of 101st guys there.

    Funny. I've got flat feet and the air force accepted me. I didn't know about the army or marines for this problem. Ended up spending two tours in Nam

    Sorry. He must have went to eagle Beach. Like a lot of Nam vets its just hard to remember things. I understand.
