Might change up my strategy of actively bonking every ride

Patrick and Benji, my favourite video of 2024 would be both of you interviewing Pog, and second favourite would be both of you interviewing one of MvDP, Remco, Jonas, Demi, or Lotte.

Great podcast, both David and Jim articulate themselves so well. Great questions to steer things along. Learnt a lot. Thanks.

this is a really interesting series, just taking away the one fact of not obsessing over HR when training to power is invaluable

I agree wholly with matching your training to the goals of your event (or just goals generally). E.g. I'm good at steady state, but I struggle with surges. Even toward the end of a climb where I've left most of myself out on the road, I'll struggle to produce that 10-20 second effort that would be required at the end of a hilly stage. So I'm using over/unders and standing up every time I'm on the over set to help build some of that resistance and ability to dig a bit deeper there

    Informative podcast guys, well done.
In the intro it was mentioned that torque and cadence was going to be discussed, however I don't recall it being discussed unfortunately, as with many of the other metrics such as power and various things etc discussed, I was keen to listen to the experts talk about Torque and cadence relationship, it's been discussed recently that lower cadence is better but I feel developing your power at slightly higher cadence to me is more efficient as I assume the power is coming without higher torque requirements, so should be less taxing and in my opinion has a bearing on fatigue resistance and other important aspects of performance which is what was also discussed, anyway it was a great discussion non the less, looking forward to more 👌

I’m looking forward to my local leisure centre setting up bikes in their saunas so we can do heat and humidity training too. The added electric shocks could be treated as bursts during intervals.

I think a countries terrain and race emphasis tends to act as a filter. Where certain rider phenotypes rise to the top, and others get filtered out - either self selecting other sports or by loss of motivation.

What do you think about the relationship between torque and fatigue resistance?

The human body is only about 25 percent efficient at converting food energy into useful mechanical work, surely there must be something we can do to increase that efficiency , maybe the answer is in Bio kinetics , or diet , supplements etc ,there is so much potential for gains , at least from a thermodynamic point of view.

    • @Lion-wd1px

you mean heat? apparently my body is 100% efficient then cause I am almost always sweating. Kidding mate, interesting topic

Idk ABT that the human body is highly optimised already. Huge percentage of food energy goes to the brain, it's not as if all atp goes to mechanical energy

I hope you can find a way, but it seems physically we have too much going on to really affect that number. At least I don’t know (outside of illicit means) that we can meaningfully surpass our genetic ceilings, even with perfect nutrition, rest, etc. At least for me, having been born to the absolutely wrong parents, the goal is efficiency optimization and timely application of effort.
