Swami Sarvapriyananda is a Hindu monk belonging to the Ramakrishna Order. He is the current resident Swami and head of the Vedanta Society of New York, a position he has been serving since January 2017. Swami Sarvapriyananda was born in Kolkata and grew up in Bhubhaneshwar in the Indian state of Odisha to a pious Bengali family. From childhood onwards, he was inclined towards spirituality and was inspired by the lives of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda. His family was also devoutly religious. His parents and grandparents were initiated devotees in the Ramakrishna Order tradition.

I am following Sarvapriyananda Ji for more than 10 years now. I have a very distracted mind but time and again I always look for his lectures as he makes complete sense. So blessed to witness him. For me he is one of my many Gurus.

Might help in furthering understanding and make sense of: "A spiritual seeker must not be one who tries to cross a river with a leg in one boat and the other leg in another boat. Result, drowning. So too, too many gurus will confuse and confound. Have one Guru, commit, practise for a year or so then if need be, garner knowledge from others. God Bless! 🎉

Wow, this is really, really deep and really densely packed. This teaching is sufficient to carry a lot of seekers very far if they take it point by point and act on everything contained herein. As usual the Swami is an absolute master communicator. I think he is the best lecturer in the English language in the world today.

BTW it is a very interesting way of looking at Sattva (knowledge) Tamas(things) and Rajas(kama, desire) and how they become related to the mind by the action of Rajas.

गीता
The etymology of the word "enlightenment" is quite enlightening in itself.
It literally means "light within the mind"...
En always means within.
Light is knowledge/understanding or wisdom.
And "ment" is from the Latin word "mens" meaning mind...as in enjoyment, improvement, management etc etc.
Also, the Sanskrit word "gyána" is phonetically similar to the Greek word "gnosis" which also means knowledge, as in the words diagnosis or prognosis.

Great Swamiji had explained very good pathway of relief from all painful sufferings in human beings. Just as in complete solar eclipse, the moon completes covering the entire sun similarly the pure awareness is covered by the bubble called ego as soon as we wake up from deep sleep, all practice of jnana, bhakti, meditation, service is to burst this small bubble called ego just to realize we were already that pure awareness, this is the essence of sanatana dharma.
