I had to explain the formations to my grandpa, who is in his 90s. So, here is my best guess!
Title: "A New Land"
Movement 1 (adante)
Setting Sail
The band becomes the gentle waves of the harbor as the sail is lowered. You can hear waves, seagulls and the clanging of the bell. When they rise, with a bold and adventurous theme, the band forms the sails of ships as the prop sail drops in the background. Marchers become the hull of a boat, what looks like a rotating circle (maybe an astrolabe?) then forming the North Star (used by sailors to navigate). The band becomes waves with a boat moving forward on top.
Movement 2 (adagio)
The Sea
As the gentle trumpet and flute solos play, the band becomes the waves of the ocean, the wavy shape of the wind, clouds of gentle rain (see the blue flags?), and eventually a large thunderhead cloud.
Movement 3 (allegro)
Storm
The tempo picks up as the sound of thunder peals alongside the bass drums. Dissonant marimbas play. The band becomes rising waves, and eventually the shape of a cyclone. (This is cool to watch at field level because the band is literally running in a circle.) Then they stop in the eye of the storm (hello breath control), and the grey color guard flags flap in the center.
Movement 4 (adante)
New Land
The ships continue on with a bold movement, as the new morning dawns (yellow flags). It looks like a rotating arrow at one point, I think, pointing the way. The marchers become the gentle curve of land on the horizon, ending by placing on knee down on new soil, and the sail is raised.
Congratulations king. Awesome show.
