- Here I make a camping cooking disc. These are also called a discada, cowboy wok and skottle to name a few. I use my plasma cutter and show you how to cut perfect circles in steel and take you through my thought process in designing and using the disc. At the end we will cook up some taco meat and go over cleaning the disc.

Love the flames on your welding sleeves! Jessie will be so jealous.
You are quite the engineer Steve. Hats off to you.
You sir are my hero!! I just couldn’t justify the hefty price tag of these things. I’m going to attempt it with my crude tools. Thank you and you got yourself a new subscriber!
Thanks Steve. Reminds me of Thai street food merchants.
Cooking surface and dinner bell all in one. 😋
Ha. Yes.
We would call that a Hockey Wok. Suitable for parking lot cooking.
That is a marketable name. For Canada. hahaha. Take care and I am glad to see you off of house arrest for that picture taking thing.
Great idea having a removable wok. Especially without reinventing the wheel using the trivit! You inspired me to try this type of cooking now, especially since you can now do coffee or rice on the same cook stove.
Great video and I think you have the cleanest home shop I have ever seen!!
Thank you for the great how-to.
Good to see you again! Thanks for the video! 😎👏😄
Love your video's Steve. Have been watching from a distance for a long time. Looking at the final design, i agree that the 10 inch angle may have been better but, it's still pretty darn neat. I was also glad to hear you mention your dad in this video because the long delay between the video of your dad's garage and the next one after that got felt nostalgic certain way and it got me wondering. Hope all continues to be well with you and your dad (and family) in these strange times we find ourselves in. Be safe. Ken, from the Travelling Wildberries...
thanks Steve..... some good ideas presented in an easy to understand manner
Steve neat project. For future reference, it's best to use a small drill bit to drill your initial hole & then the step bit to the desired hole size. Came out great. TAKE CARE..
As always, great video Steve!
Hmm I might copy that idea, thanks for sharing Steve.
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing 😊
Nice work !🤙
Thanks to you..my next lunch will be homemade tacos 😋😋😋
"Get a plasma cutter there blast." I see what you did there.😁😁😁
Thank you for sharing! Will save me some money 💰
Great DiY! Thank you.
So THAT'S where the name TACO BELL came from! Hahaha! Ring the bell!
Thanks for the video.
Brilliant build.
I think u should build a couple of those base without the burner and skottle and sell it to those who wants one. I like the designs, but in no way im paying $250 plus dollars the original designs
Hey good work, I saw at iKamper the system but really it is worth a fortune then actually and in addition in the country where I am they are not represented so I actually bought a second hand charrute record and really I am very happy have also adapted a fire and for the trepied I used a pattern holder for topographer it make’s job ;-) enjoy.
I was kind of hoping you were going to show cleaning the disk with a right angle grinder but if a paper towel works, so be it. Good project Steve.
Very nice! I think I will give it a try. To help get the burger down to a smaller texture when it is 90 percent done toss a 1/4 cup of water into it.
Cool build. Thanks for sharing
Steve, we live in the Vegas area too (Henderson). Coming from Los Angeles, I had access to anything I could possibly want for fabrications, not so much is the Vegas valley. If you need ideas for a video, maybe review your local sources with us?
Stuart Stuart he’s acquired most of his equipment at Harbor Freight and Craigslist.
Nice work! Thanks a bunch!
Steve I think your doing this to make Jessi James jealous, now he will have to come up with a better project using his new found wielding skills lol.
But does he have a plasma cutter?😁
Oh, I am sure he will copy me and get one.
I like your idea alot about being able to remove the disk. I just bought a disk but would totally buy the whole cook stand from you. Please let me know if you decide to make and sell as i do not have the stuff to make one!
I won't be making these but there are burners stoves you can use with the trivet thing.
Hi, if you are still interested in the cook stand, i can make one for you just like that. Hope you to see this mesage, i will be waiting. Thanks
Really nice work. What are your long-term 3 year thoughts on the build? What would you do differently? I really enjoyed seeing your quality tools. It's not often that someone invests in tools to that degree.
PLEASE start selling. I will buy one today!
Asian ingenuity
Great vid !! I wonder why you dont like cast iron ?
Great build and great video. I just wish you had more links to what you purchased and how much the total cost was. I am not sure where to find the Brock Drivet (the black thing you bought on Amazon that give you height)?
Steel is steel Steve. It's basically Iron with a higher carbon content.guess what? Iron is good for you. Even when it tastes bad.
Steve, what did you season your pan with, or did it already come seasoned? Thanks have a great day! Rose
It came seasoned and very smooth.
Take 3 days off and spend some time at home. Watch some tv and enjoy each other's company. Keep her always on the shirts and stickers, to keep her memory alive. Only one Honey Bear, she'll be missed. Take care.
👍🏼
Did u season the disco
Whats wrong with cast iron?
You do realize that there is no such element as steel? Steel is mostly Fe. Can't figure out what you have against Cast Iron unless its the challenge to weld to it. Brazing works easily enough, though. In fact there have been studies done and cast iron is often the cure/preventative to Anemia.
Peanut oil works especially well on any exposed steel cookware, low or high iron content & including cast iron. It forms a nice deep brown rust free anti stick coating. Many very thin coats are best for a new piece. On a nice high carbon deep dish pizza pan I learned the hard way not to use margarine even though the instructions said so. A burnt useless black mess that tasted awful is what I got.
I love those wok cooking tools. When I see the bamboo ones in the dollar store I buy 3-5 packs every time. I have an authentic hand hammered wok and it is one of my favorite pans to use. I've also come to love a bit of oyster sauce on beef as a marinade even though I detest oysters. My other favorite on thin sliced beef is a 50/50 marinade of worcestershire/soy sauces and then right before you cook it add a tablespoon or two of corn starch. Quickly fried until deeply brown & crispy it comes out very much like bacon. I highly recommend you try it out some time.
Thanks for the info.
Sir, another great video with great content. I’d like to know when I can order this item from you and if it can be shipped to So Cal, Lol.
Vegetatables? 12:30
Great video. Would consider making one to sell me?
Hi Octavio, i can make this cooking stand if you are still interested. Let me know, Gracias
I think I spotted some Iron Rangers there.
good spot
Most people are iron deficient.
I was hoping the white gay guy puppet thing wouldn't be at the end.
Great project Steve! Well thought out and executed and a great use of your welding and fabrication skills! Harbor Freight may have a competitor (or a new supplier of a "Skottle" cook set to them). How long do you think it would take you to manufacture and supply 65,000 units? I have no problem with you coming out of retirement! -LOL
What’s wrong with cast iron ?
Totally enjoy your teaching and ideas. Adding your dry humor is just hilarious.
"See me smiling" lol. Great stuff.
why are you against cast iron?
That was the first thing that popped into my head.
Linescrew could have used this skottle to cook his rations when he was trapped in remote Canada
You know he is doing it to fire up Jess so we will just have to wait and see what the come back is. I agree on 10 degrees on the legs looks good nice to see you put one out on the airways.
Not bad. I used a much smaller version of this on my motorcycle and bicycle camping trips. Remember - Hot pan, cold oil (fat/grease) and the food won't stick. Looks like you've got that pretty well figured out. Your campground neighbors will probably think you're ringing the dinner bell.
Taco Bell used to make their taco meat fresh when I worked there many years ago. Pretty sure they still do. It's cheaper that way.
Nice build. Love your videos. Thanks for sharing!!
Music / noise is intolerable. Never got to content. Dislike!
Nice, Steve! Strong work as always! On a related topic...did you see Everlanders version of Bulgogi in a recent vid?
Great build Steve. Good to see another video, we've missed you out here in RUclips land.
Bonus: the "bell" sound should become a dinner bell to any bears in hearing distance. ;-)
Best homemade skottle on utube.
Awesome video i have a Skottle already but it does not hurt to have one for the house. 😁
A work of art.
I’m curious as to the reason you avoid cast iron.
Steve need a road trip ?
Excellent Video as always! Great points I hate how easily cast iron rusts so easily. I have been wanting one of these discs as well.
Thanks for the video
Now I am a food critic. No onions no green peppers. Blasphemy I tell you. You are going to the Darkside. Shame I tell you. Darn those disc cookers ain't cheap. Crazy they want so much for those ready built units. I might just have to buy a cast iron wok. What is your concern with cast iron? I am new to the channel so get me up to speed. Great video, tools are a little bit more than I have in the garage. Thanks for sharing.
Iron overload. Genetic.
Nice build Steve! You are an amazing diy maker. Nice to see you are still making videos for us.
Just found your channel, really enjoyed watching your DIY, if I can be really honest, you kinda remain me of my father IN-LAWS. (Cambodian and Cheese) he’s also like to do things him self as well. Anyway thanks for the videos.
I like your tape tee-pee's.
It's the West Virginian! Miss you buddy.
@@XplorerSteveDIY Still in Sandy Yaygo till August. Then going to make the cross country drive.
Excellent work Steve!
You work very well, it’s so cool👍🏽
Nice build Steve. You have a great work shop with all the working toys
Really cool
Alright, you're ready to build a Chopper. You look badass in that shirt. Lol
Great job. Hopefully you will start posting content again soon. Hopefully everything is going well for you and your family.
Steve, you are both an artist and an engineer, with an incredible selection of tools. You are blessed. I can't do what you do, but it inspires me to knock something together, to come up with similar solution to the problem. Mine will look crude but be functional. I have the Coleman version of your single burner. It bothers me when I put a pot of water or large pan on it. Afraid it will fall over. I can do this with your inspiration. Thanks.
I guess im asking randomly but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account..?
I somehow lost my login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me.
@George Michael instablaster ;)
@Rafael Ismael i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and I'm trying it out atm.
I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Rafael Ismael it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much, you really help me out !
@George Michael Happy to help :D
Could you just use a regular camp stove like a single burner and add the raised wok trivet and get one of these disc's?
LET ME KNOW! CHEERS
interesting you mentioned del taco and taco bell. they cook their ground beef on a griddle, low quality meat (they need higher fat content for more grease), some taco seasoning and a 1/4 to 1/3 as much oatmeal to thin out the meat. when cooked in to the meat takes on the color and taste of the meat and seasoning.
I'm not above the finer foods in life.. great video.
You're worried about cast iron leaching... yet you cook on a welded disk?! Hu?
Your voice over is one of the best. Keep up the great work.
Love the wide jaws of your vice. What's the make of your vice @8:10 ?
Should have made the leg sockets long enough so the bottom of the propane stove would clear when in storage mode
The beef is fresh its mashed with potato masher with a screen colander over a bucket to catch grease. Great video
Thanks for the idea Steve!
Great build!!
Skottle = Afrikaans for plough disk.
Nice clean build! Really cool.
Do you take a multivitamin that has iron in it?
no
Xplorer Steve DIY I am a lot older than you and my doctor has me take iron supplement. I grew up in Bauxite Arkansas where they mine for aluminum and the Percentage of older people with Alzheimer’s is higher than normal so I stay away from all aluminum cookware but I have never heard of any thing bad about iron?
Steve hope you are doing well have not seen any new videos take care
Iron is good for you, I'm curious why you're avoiding it?
Does the top slide around or move when you are cooking?
Like your scottel can I buy one from you
Is that "22 or "18 size?
Kirkland olive oil 👍🏼
