Is anybody aware that in the Off-Broadway production, the Heathers had extra vocal support from the female ensemble? These three girls did it by themselves, and I think that deserves some credit.
+Max Gill I've seen the vocal score and there are parts written in for the female ensemble. Also, if you watch the performance at Bryant Park, the female ensemble is singing with them. I have seen the video you're referring to, but just because they didn't film the other women doesn't mean their vocals weren't recorded.

I like the original musicals version of this better. But I do like how they interact with Veronica more during the song. Cause in the original she just kind of stood there while she sang and it was weird.
I know a lot of people are criticising this production, but just remember it didn't actually start out as a professional production. It was an amateur cast that were the first people to get the rights to perform it in Australia, the tickets sold out ridiculously quickly and everyone loved it so much they were able to take it to the opera house. And also as always everything is better live- I saw it in Sydney and honestly, there were plenty of things I liked better about the Australian Production.

Also it the originals didn't look good on stage as it did in film. Lastly the movie didn't use half the shoulder pads used in this exaggerated costume.

The costumes are hideous and the blocking/choreo ruined it for me, this number is supposed to be Heather proving that she is a mythic bitch and I think they really lost that. the whole controversy about whether or not they should have belted the song, none of them sounded like very strong singers in general. I love heathers the musical and the movie but without a killer cast and killer blocking it just kind of looks like a hot mess...
i've seen the actual choreography for the australia and it's really good, they completely changed it here, probably cause they didn't have much space or something idk. Honestly, i love the costumes personally, but that's a manner of opinion.

I had several friends in the Florida premiere of the show (that just closed 4 days ago). I can ask them to come comment and support my findings. YES, we know the way we've heard this song on recordings, both legal and otherwise. YES, we know that way we prefer to hear a song sung. If every cast sounded the same, what's the point? I had no trouble with these ladies' rendition. As someone else stated, the Aussie tour is doing just fine. This show is SO hard on the voice and whenever you are able to save your voice, you MUST. so don't bash these actors for singing that way. If you did 8 shows a week and had to be up at the crack of dawn to sing a hard score like Heathers, you'd understand.
I LOVED the outfits duke and mcnamara were wearing, but hated chandlers, I know it's the outfit she wore in the movie but it just doesn't work on her and I never really liked it anyway

They're not singing in their head voices, they're singing on thin folds, there is a difference. And yeah, they all belt really well - especially Veronica.
The costumes are very 80’s and they had to crank the shoulder pads up to 12 because of the exaggeration needed on stage. I think it was a nice tribute to the movie. I will say I LOVE how Veronica’s costume is a blend of all her outfits from the movie. The patchwork blazer, the Blue Ruffle Skirt, the Bolar hat with a ribbon (she’s not wearing it here) it’s perfect tribute to the fashion and the varying outfits she wears in the movie. Only thing I would say is I wish she was wearing her iconic blue tights. While I love the original OB Cast costumes, as they really did the show justice, and Chandlers outfit was wayyy more appealing in the OB production then the one from the movie, I was always a little disappointed that Veronica stayed in her blue blazer the whole time. Her varying outfits in the movie show here indifference to the heathers as the story progresses, so this production took a cool step with her costuming. Something different is never bad.
Great segment from the very talented Lucy Maunders, along with her fellow co-stars from Heathers The Musical, albeit a very different character than her usual caring self! She certainly knows how to perform to the highest standard ... although I'm not surprised in the least when you hear what her personal rehearsal regime entails. No wonder I think she's fabulous!
i feel like im the only one that loves this. the choreography is great, so is the singing (heather d. could use a bit of work though) and the costumes. the fact that they're performing in a small tv studio could affect stage performance a lot, but this is still great.
I think we can all agree the original cast was better, but I do have to say I love this portrayal of mcnamara. Everyone kind of sees mcnamara as this "uwu cinnamon roll babi" when shes just as bad as the other heathers, and I feel like the deeper voice kind of helps you keep that mentality. This duke isn't my favorite though. She seems to continuously be in this kind of whiney voice and I absolutely hate it.
I don't really like the vocals, but I love the acting of Veronica. Annoyed by the Heathers bullshit and showing it, as a Veronica should do. But I would love when Duke falls, Ronnie to be the one who gives her hand.

Their hair and makeup are too modern, especially Veronica. Heather Chandler would never let herself look that bad. I understand that they're trying to exaggerate the proportions of the blazer, but it just looks too big. I like that the costumes are directly from the movie, but I also like seeing a costume designer's original take on an iconic trio. The choreography is too much and they're getting winded too easily, which I think is sacrificing many of the cool vocal elements in this number. All the performers did very well with what they were given and the tone and accents were very good
look up australia heathers and find the bootlegs of this show, it's actually really good...everything there looks so much cleaner and sounds a lot better. Must have been an off day here, or maybe a difference of the environment
For anyone hating on this, I saw this live a few weeks ago and I have to say it was stunning, Jaz flowers was unbelievably amazing as Veronica, Stephen stunning as JD and all the girls were stunning as the heathers, while this is the weakest song in the show vocally, the blocking and staging for this scene and the performance by the replacement Heather Chandler (Kirby Burgess) where so so much better then this video showed. In the staged version they had the back up singers and it wasn't 7. It's actually so amazing

You guys wouldn’t have half as much of a problem with the consumers if these were the versions you were familiar with. Also, what’s this crap about them missing the harmonies? They hit the harmonies perfectly. And the best thing about the higher harmony apis that it didn’t overshadow Chandler. And Chandler using her head voice is probably a health choice, considering doing eight shows a week burns your voice right out. Just think the next time you try to judge an entire show based on one (censored for TV and heavily cut, while also being much closer than the audience’s view of the stage) professionally shot song in a news broadcast.

That's a little uncalled for, don't you think? She's just explaining how hard belting that song and belting in general is. Honestly belting is really difficult. I actually broke my voice and couldn't sing for a very long due to me trying to belt and it's really hard honestly. You can learn proper belting techniques from videos, but you can't master it all by yourself without proper training. Also, not all actors have taken professional singing lessons; and from my understanding, this is an amateur production of Heathers so I'm guessing not all of the girls have taken lessons. That might be because they don't have enough money because last time I checked being an actor without another job isn't a good idea financially and doesn't really give you that much money. The actresses may also be really busy outside of rehearsals so they might not be able to fit singing lessons into their schedule. Please don't judge the show by just one fairly low-quality bootleg(?) video on the internet. I heard these girls were actually pretty good to be fair. Also: Sorry if I come across as if I'm attacking you! I really don't mean this in a malicious way. . . I hope you have a nice day! :)

She certainly knows how to perform to the highest standard ... although I'm not surprised in the least when you hear what her personal rehearsal regime entails. No wonder I think she's fabulous!

i feel like im the only one that loves this. the choreography is great, so is the singing (heather d. could use a bit of work though) and the costumes. the fact that they're performing in a small tv studio could affect stage performance a lot, but this is still great.

I think we can all agree the original cast was better, but I do have to say I love this portrayal of mcnamara. Everyone kind of sees mcnamara as this "uwu cinnamon roll babi" when shes just as bad as the other heathers, and I feel like the deeper voice kind of helps you keep that mentality.
This duke isn't my favorite though. She seems to continuously be in this kind of whiney voice and I absolutely hate it.

lol I love how the language in it is so raunchy that they have to tone ot down on tv. I nearly died laughing when she said "skirt" instead of "dick"because it sounded so out of place lol.
I’m gonna say the costume designs is a little bit more like the movie then the American Heathers
Their hair and makeup are too modern, especially Veronica. Heather Chandler would never let herself look that bad. I understand that they're trying to exaggerate the proportions of the blazer, but it just looks too big. I like that the costumes are directly from the movie, but I also like seeing a costume designer's original take on an iconic trio. The choreography is too much and they're getting winded too easily, which I think is sacrificing many of the cool vocal elements in this number. All the performers did very well with what they were given and the tone and accents were very good

They probably figured that people would recognise the off-broadway production, and they probably hadn’t recorded any news-level quality footage
For anyone hating on this, I saw this live a few weeks ago and I have to say it was stunning, Jaz flowers was unbelievably amazing as Veronica, Stephen stunning as JD and all the girls were stunning as the heathers, while this is the weakest song in the show vocally, the blocking and staging for this scene and the performance by the replacement Heather Chandler (Kirby Burgess) where so so much better then this video showed. In the staged version they had the back up singers and it wasn't 7. It's actually so amazing

You guys wouldn’t have half as much of a problem with the consumers if these were the versions you were familiar with. Also, what’s this crap about them missing the harmonies? They hit the harmonies perfectly. And the best thing about the higher harmony apis that it didn’t overshadow Chandler. And Chandler using her head voice is probably a health choice, considering doing eight shows a week burns your voice right out. Just think the next time you try to judge an entire show based on one (censored for TV and heavily cut, while also being much closer than the audience’s view of the stage) professionally shot song in a news broadcast.

Okay. You do 8 shows a week of Heathers and tell me how easy it is the belt that every time. I have done the show and it's one of the hardest scores I've ever sang.

That's a little uncalled for, don't you think? She's just explaining how hard belting that song and belting in general is. Honestly belting is really difficult. I actually broke my voice and couldn't sing for a very long due to me trying to belt and it's really hard honestly. You can learn proper belting techniques from videos, but you can't master it all by yourself without proper training. Also, not all actors have taken professional singing lessons; and from my understanding, this is an amateur production of Heathers so I'm guessing not all of the girls have taken lessons. That might be because they don't have enough money because last time I checked being an actor without another job isn't a good idea financially and doesn't really give you that much money. The actresses may also be really busy outside of rehearsals so they might not be able to fit singing lessons into their schedule. Please don't judge the show by just one fairly low-quality bootleg(?) video on the internet. I heard these girls were actually pretty good to be fair. Also: Sorry if I come across as if I'm attacking you! I really don't mean this in a malicious way. . . I hope you have a nice day! :)
