When I first heard this song so many years ago, I had a very specific interpretation of it. But somehow, over the years, hearing many different versions and especially after hearing an interview Eddie gave about it, I have changed my mind. It used to be retrospective, about looking back at a bad time and getting away from it. Now its more prospective, forward looking to a better day. The music is great, but the lyrics just blow my mind, an immensely powerful song.
Thanks Jeff, Stone, Mike, Eddie and Matt! you are the translation of a generation that learned to be an artisan of itself. Guitar, bass, drums and vocals are felt in our hearts❤🎶❤🎼❤🎵
santiago candioti echagüe while he is a great drummer, I personally think he’s the worst Pearl Jam drummer. Every other drummer they had had their own original style and creative techniques that brought new depths to Pearl Jam’s music in the era that they played. For example, the No Code-Yield Era with Jack Irons was really experimental and used a lot more polyrhythmic style playing which was heavily influenced by Jack’s drumming techniques. Matt Cameron doesn’t really bring anything new to the table and is a really boring and basic drummer in my opinion. Also Matt tends to play the songs a lot faster live or out of tempo. Pearl Jam’s music is still great with Matt but not nearly as good as the music the band produced with their other drummers in the 90s!
Are you kidding? I can't listen to RVM nowadays because of him. He killed the song, turning it much more faster than the original version. With Abbruzzesse and even Irons was more heavy and powerful.
I agree with your opinions, i'm just sick of reading comments about drummers in the band. I love jack irons, I think he was the best drummer for pearl jam, I just can't stand people complainign about matt, I saw him live in 2015 and he really changed my opinion, I have only but respect for the man.
This song is sooo awesome!! Sooo much power and emotions, I love to watch Pearl Jam to perform this song in concerts always it's amazing to watch and listen!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thats why we go to their concerts year after year to experience such explosion and memorable performances. Eddie and Pearl Jam still rocking our lives after all these years. Gotta love Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam 😍😍
@@michellew2knz For me, it's not necessarily about domestic abuse, it's about some situation that you finally escape from, and yes, the lyrics make me feel hopeful and the music is so much energetic.
Man I wish I could watch Pearl Jam videos and read comments without always seeing a horde of pretentious assholes constantly bitching and moaning about Abbruzzese and pretending that Matt is a bad drummer. Some of the most irritating people I’ve ever seen
Amazing night, amazing setlist. Lovedd when they played Imagine with Jack Johnson. It was also super funny that in the end mike mccready played the first notes to yellow ledbetter and eddie was like “uh uhh, we’re doing baba o riley” tonight hahah loved that festival
Luckily I was there, one of the best festival lineups ever but PJ were undoubtedly the best performance. Especially when they brought Kim Thayill and others on stage for Kick Out The Jams.
I took a drive today Time to emancipate I guess it was the beatings made me wise But I'm not about to give thanks, or apologize I couldn't breathe, holdin' me down Hand on my face Pushed to the ground Enmity gaged, united by fear Forced to endure What I could not forgive I seem to look away Wounds in the mirror waved It wasn't my surface most defiled Head at your feet, fool to your crown Pissed on my plate, swallowed it down Enmity gauged, united by fear Tried to endure What I could not forgive Saw things Saw things Saw things Saw things Clearer Clearer once you, were in my rearviewmirror I gather speed from you fucking with me Once and for all I'm far away I hardly believe Finally the shades, are raised, hey yeah Saw things so much clearer Once you, once you (rearviewmirror) Saw things so much clearer Once you, once you (rearviewmirror) Saw things so much clearer Once you, once you (rearviewmirror) Saw things so much clearer Once you, oh yeah
I love this band as much as anyone , truly do. Got the high 10C #, dozens of shows every collectible, etc ... but I think 06’ S/T was the last true tour Ed had his voice to pull off the more aggressive PJ tunes. It’s slowly gone little by little since..which I get completely. It’s not a knock on the greatest rock n roll singer I’ll ever witness or will ever hear in my lifetime. Part of why he’s the GOAT is because of how long he sounded great live where others lost it well before him. Disappearing for a decade don’t count either and even those singers can’t match how great he was . The Let’s play Two I thought he was still pretty solid and enjoyable even if not the same on 1/3 of the catalogue. However the last few years , the reality of years of singing the type of songs STBC, DEEP, WHY GO, Animal, Blood, Evolution, this list goes on, it’s caught up. Yeah if he sang Elderly Woman style songs then yeah but he didn’t. This said it’s kind of painful to see that my mighty Superman is human after all . He could still absolutely do his stripped down, folk acoustic solo shows and put on a hell of a show!!! The thing is he loves music and the following for PJ is too great and still growing with new generations every day that they can’t stop. So do we still travel far distances , make trips out of PJ shows etc when his voice is going? Yes I still will cus when your there it’s about the experience and always has been. I’ve screamed n sang along to every song at every show that I have ever attended ( Boston experiment in 03’ I did just sit n enjoy beginning of night 1 . Thank God cus Help Help performance changed my entire opinion of that song) However truth is I literally can’t hear how he “ truly” sounds until I listen to the show at a different time. So yeah people who are casual fans or younger kids can say things on his voice on YT and are correct , but it be like complaining about Nolan Ryan‘s fastball in his mid 50’s. Understand nobody did it better for longer and never will again !!!
myyyyyy god...34yrs later. yeah, show me 1 fkn band grinding like this - sounding like this - playin like this. I have 0 in common w eddie vedder, but maaadd respect.

It's one of their best, and it still makes me a bit emotional when I hear it to this day. Especially if I haven't listened to it in a while.
Hi from Nepal. Always pearl jam . Eddie vedder is in my DNA.
You know a song, like this one, is powerful when it can make you feel a particular way for no reason 😊♥️👍🏻
Absofuckinglutely agree and cordorouy!!!

i guess it is kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good website to watch new tv shows online ?
There's always a reason, just curious if you've figured out what it is for you 3 years later.. takes some soul searching sometimes.
Still my favorite PJ track... in fact my favorite song. They surf through this song effortlessly these days of course.
When they performed RVM on SNL I was 14 when I saw it. Changed my life. Phenomenal.
This is my antham song but the best version is pink pop in 2000
@@flipjupiter1 don't say it.

What a career Eddie and Matt Cameron and Pearl Jam has had!!! WOW AMAZING!! ❤️🤘
Mike Mccready is Incredible on guitar.. & such a kind guy! All the guys are, I love Pearl Jam ✌🙂🎶
I thought it was only me that waits for his solo on this song!!! Mike's the best!!!
One and only, lm two plus 3
Veder the legend and the band are cool I felt like I grew up with them u gotta love em
Straight from the evergreen state aren't we blessed Yaha 😁🤩

This is why Matt Cameron is in Pearl Jam, he's a beast, an incredible driven force full of power.

Easily one of my top five PJ tracks.
For the last 24 hours this melody was playing in my head. And one hour ago they uploaded this.. ((:
Coincidence or maybe even irony. Nope. It was a sign from the Universe

I took a drive today
Time to emancipate
I guess it was the beatings made me wise
But I'm not about to give thanks, or apologize
I couldn't breathe, holdin' me down
Hand on my face
Pushed to the ground
Enmity gaged, united by fear
Forced to endure
What I could not forgive
I seem to look away
Wounds in the mirror waved
It wasn't my surface most defiled
Head at your feet, fool to your crown
Pissed on my plate, swallowed it down
Enmity gauged, united by fear
Tried to endure
What I could not forgive
Saw things
Saw things
Saw things
Saw things
Clearer
Clearer once you, were in my rearviewmirror
I gather speed from you fucking with me
Once and for all
I'm far away
I hardly believe
Finally the shades, are raised, hey yeah
Saw things so much clearer
Once you, once you (rearviewmirror)
Saw things so much clearer
Once you, once you (rearviewmirror)
Saw things so much clearer
Once you, once you (rearviewmirror)
Saw things so much clearer
Once you, oh yeah
wish i was at that gig. this is one my best tunes.
