When I was first listening to this alone in the dark, I felt my mind drifting in dissonance that feels ancient and nocturnal. Something about it reminds me of medieval Europe as well. Amazing!
Hey Jesse, thanks for your wonderful comments! Yeah, I know what you mean about these pieces sounding a bit neo-classical, not sure where that comes from, there is probably a romanticism in me that goes back to all those movies from the "golden age" of Hollywood that I grew up with. lol
Oh yeah my dear friend... once accepted, she gives us that absolute freedom that you mention, while making us lose the references to everything, material and immaterial... as your ethereal music expresses it so well. .. your dissonances cease to be dissonances and become new divine harmonies... Likewise, I always have your words about music in mind, when you've ever said something like the beauty of rhythm-free... asynchronous music! And this is also what Dmitri Shostakovich has stated in his book "Music for All of Us"... and even Schoenberg in his great musical treatise on harmony. Anyway, it was a great pleasure to enjoy your sweet dissonance twice now, my brother! But please don't do like I do! Stop thinking so much about the end... it will arrive, perhaps with warning or perhaps without warning... but in the meantime you owe us many more works like these, for which you will have to work many more years, man! Thank you my learned comrade and dear friend, there is always conflict between music theory (which is a cultural indoctrination) and the freedom of unrestrained sound (which I believe to be more subjective based on our individual psyche), John Cage's found sound is too extreme for me, but, somewhere in between the two is where I find the most pleasure! Amazing work my friend. A trip though this piece from start to end was like a pilgrimage to an ancient site, like Stonehenge. Starting off with anticipation and excitement and somehow losing ones bearings somewhat, yet not in fear or distress. Finding one's way back to the road ahead. Musically reminds me a little towards one of my favourite bands 'Quintesssence' who themselves propelled thoughts of spiritual uplift. Best wishes Z.
