I believe the Model 2 is the only "legacy" siren Federal still makes. All their other classics like the STH, STL, Thunderbolt, Models 3,5,7, and the "T" series of each are no longer made. All new designs. If you are ever lucky enough to get your hands on one of these, you have a piece of history. Well worth the price of restoring.
"It scares their kids." Cry me a river you wussies! I grew up around the block from a firehouse that had a loud air horn along with the siren. These setups were used everywhere when I was growing up. They were loud as hell and I loved it as a kid! Still do. Sadly, most of them are now gone from where I am. All that noise was one of the things that made me join the fire department.
Have any of these people thought to consider maybe the siren goes off several times a day because that's how many emergencies that fire company gets in a day? If you actually taught your children what the siren means, they wouldn't be scared of it. Ignorance at its finest out of these residents. SMH
Too many chronic complainers today. Its happening everywhere. I believe one community was carrying on about the train horns. The blowing was eliminated or reduced then a fatality occurred on a crossing. We have sirens in towns around here. They go off each day to announce 12:00 noon and when there are fire or emergency calls. There are many homes in these towns next to a main East-West R.R. line. The residences adapt to the crossing blows and it doesn't bother them. Chronic complainers are not an asset to any community. Apparently they never had a real problem in their lives.
@@kristinabliss It's really simple. The outdoor warning siren is responsible for summoning the volunteer firefighters to the fire station. Some fire departments don't use radio pagers and rely only on the siren, while others use the siren as a layer of redundancy in case of a pager radio failure. The siren featured in this video is a Federal Model 2, which is a very small type of outdoor warning siren, and it is not loud enough to be worth complaining about. Not compared to other models available.
That’s a really quiet siren, and a low tone too. Our hall has an STH-10, and has woken up our crew multiple times. Would have scratched otherwise. As well as a backup, it alerts the town that the fire department is responding, both to the caller, and to those in the area to watch for blue lights, and our case, runners.
For all the ones complaining, you ever stop and think about someone else for a change? Like the person whos trapped inside a car or the family whos house is on fire hearing the siren and knowing HELP IS ON THE WAY? This womans probably the same person that calls the fire department then bitches why their not their in a matter of seconds..
Oh for heaven sakes, my parents ran with the Fire Department and Ambulance Base when I was a kid. Spent many hours at the fire hall. They use to have a Federal Model 7T. You wanna talk about loud? Ouy! Near the Ambulance Base was an STH-10. Even louder because it had the projector horns, and it spun at a higher RPM than the 7T. That thing freaked me out even while inside the building. Yes I was scared of them when I was a little kid but now I look back and think, “What the hell was I so scared of?”
Yeah, I’m an explorer for a fire department. I live by 2 Federal Signal Eclipse 8s, and a Federal Model 2. And people think a singular model 2 is loud? These residents must be on drugs man.
@@lisirenprod1003 For real. Anytime I am back home I hope to hear the fire whistle go off, assuming it’s just an automatic fire alarm or the monthly test. I don’t wish any illwill or hurt on anyone.
Dravosburg #2 (shut down early 2000’s) had the same issue with its other siren located in an old lady’s front yard. Back in the late70’s-early 80’s, her twin spinster daughters complained and filed a lawsuit to have it removed. Majority of our ambulance calls though were for their mother so, of course, every time they called 911, the siren would go off to alert the firefighters. That siren was one of the only ways to alert members living in that part of the district since monitors and pagers were scarce.
Cry me a river, if you want the fire siren to shut up, have a town meeting about fire safety. That siren goes off every time the department gets a call. Educate the population about fire safety, and maybe it won’t go off as much XD.
oh thats fucking ridiculous do you want to live if there was a tornado or a fire at your house? yeah i thought so.. some sirens are used to call volunteers to the fire station for an emergency
That’s bullshit. I live right next to a Model 2t, and I ended up taking record of this thing. It came out only with 140dc, that’s not loud, even considering the siren is not even 10 years old.
Why is this little town scared of a model 2? I’m gonna record a T 128 witch is gonna be loud as heck. If you don’t want that model 2, have it replaced with a STH 10. That will solve the model 2 problem.
