  • Listen to “Somebody’s Daughter” on my debut album ‘The Lemonade Stand’, out now: TT.lnk.to/TLSAY
    Chorus:
Bet she was somebody's best friend laughing
Back when she was somebody's sister
Countin' change at the lemonade stand
Probably somebody's high school first kiss
Dancin' in a gym where the kids all talk about someday plans
Now this light'll turn green and I'll hand her a couple dollars
And I'll wonder if she got lost or they forgot her
    She's somebody's daughter
    Somebody's daughter
    Somebody's daughter

I have not seen my daughter in nearly a year. I know she is running from the law, I have no idea where she is. Addiction is the worst kind of demon. It is a battle she cannot seem to win. This song.....it stopped me in my tracks. I know people thinks she just another junkie, but I remember girl scouts, the church youth choir, her best friend and her making singing videos and her first crush. This song touches me like no other song ever has. Thank you for recording it.

Addiction is a sad and scary thing. I pray you've found your daughter and she's on her long journey to sobriety. My brother has been clean for almost a year...it's been the longest, hardest year of his life but he's pushing through!

I am an addict...wasnt prepared for this kind of life when I let it in. It has dug me down, chocked and kicked me. It has taken more from me than I ever thought it would. I have tried to put it all down but it is stronger than me and it is smarter than me but it cant take being someones daughter from me. I have 2 little girls...ones 20 and ones 15. I posted rhis song to my facebook status and tagged both of them in it. I hope they realize I am not only their mother but I too just like them both am somebodys daughter.

This song really hit me when I first heard it... I was just driving home after a traumatic shift in the hospital, where we had a young woman with a drug use problem who had just lost a baby. I felt some members of the team were very judgemental of this patient for her drug use. When I heard this song, I couldn't stop thinking of this woman and what things must have been like for her to end up in the situation she was in.

I'm also a nurse. I have found at times thinking about patients who have expired. Thier lives maybe 30 minutes prior to geriatrics and what whole lives contained. I think this builds our empathy and compassion for patients. Everyone is more than a diagnosis or room number.

OH CMON! This is what Soyboi's and woman day dream about. Crying to some song that hits them hard over an event they can relate to. Shes a drug addict who chooses drugs over her baby and you put to value on her. She made her choice and she killed a baby over her drug addiction yet you feel bad for her. I mean grow up.

@@kawrss31 What a douche bag you are to just assume and comment she KILLED a baby. The comment doesn't say the reason the baby died, only that members of her team were judgemental for the patient's drug use and the baby's death. Maybe she was raped and she used drugs to cope. None of us know. Try some compassion and remember Karma is a bitch.

We recently had an influx in homelessness and it's sad. What's worse is to hear some of the mean and hateful things people say about these individuals. How easy it is for some to pass judgment than to lend a helping hand or ear.

Heard this song September 2020 I cried and though as a father I am exceededly grieved because my children When they were young I was ultra protective of them not over bearing gently corrected and sow encouragement because I grew up in NYC without a father since 5 years of age alot of unnecessary drama I and many others didn't need I prayed often thanking God for their present and future I loved them passionately as a faithful father but in the late nineties I was about to graduate that very semester in a community college being Mr Mom cleaning the house cooking laundry ect while my faithful wife went to work then in the beginning of that year I was body building eating right running on the treadmill stretching not doing drugs would drink a six pack of beer maybe on Friday watching the Chicago Cubs which my wife got into baseball watching it on TV and also travel with the family to Wrigley field in Chicago the second time there we went by charrier bus because I never gone to Chicago before the first time driving it is amazing we found it had get off the highway many times asking for directions anyway the beginning of that year I came down with a 105 five fever near death next three months I was so delusional sleeping on the youngest mattress by the front door my children were young and my wife didn't know what was going on I understand when the mind goes haywire that year and the next I don't wish it even upon my enemy I told my wife take the kids and her leave the state not knowing where she would go but I scared her and found out when my children came back in my Life after 15 years she was miserable listening to my mother in law whom I loved dearly but those years of separation no communication I would have recurring dreams of my wife and children incomplete dreams but though my wife and children were at rest and peace before that situation with that extreme fever I prayed over and beyond speaking what God's word says great shall be the shalom of my children and many others thanking Him for their amazing destiny because God told Joshua let these words not depart from thy mouth basically saying speak His word because it says in Psalm 138 His word is magnified above His name He means and fulfill what He says I am a believing born again Christian He saw the whole picture and everyone in it my children were living dangerously but His faithful Hand and unsearchable mind kept them alive and when they started coming back in my life they doing better than I did as a young man good and responsible with money etc. Good people and prospering being elevated It says in Psalm 112 Blessed is the man who fears the Lord and greatly delighted in His commands next verse his descendants will be mighty upon the earth invest in God's way for your children and after them because He sees the now future and before we all was created in the womb. I've said this same thing about every single person..male or female that I see wondering the streets, homeless or with mental illness, addiction...and I've said this to my kids since they were little..always respect these people..they're someone's Daughter...someone's Son..they were someone's Baby!! Try and not pass judgement. I've heard them talk to each other (they're teens now) and I hear that understanding between them...Beautiful song!! xo

Yes, that's right Matt. Even though country music has always (like every genre) been dominated by males, it has never been worse than in the past 10 years. The industry is failing to cultivate the talent that can give us the next Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, Crystal Gayle, Pam Tillis, Martina McBride, etc. Instead, we are given an onslaught of generic males, hardly distinguishable one from the other: Walker Hayes, Mitchell Tenpenny, Jordan Davis, Brett Young, Russell Dickerson, Morgan Evans, and on and on. Most people can't even remember who is who. And most of these dudes will be soon irrelevant and forgotten -- remember Canaan Smith?

She is not on every country station. Not even close. This song has not even charted in the top 60 yet on Billboard Country Airplay, and a song is not even in regular rotation until it hits the top 30. So, how has she made it big? Your definition of big must be rather small. She is getting some attention, but she is very, very far from making it big, as she should for such a talent.

  • @krystal9729
    @krystal9729 5 лет назад +8

This song hits me so hard. My mother was an addict for most of my 21 years of life. No one cares about them. They go missing, get raped, get murdered and no one cares. People think they’re just trash but they don’t understand. That’s someone who means the world to someone else. Someone they wish they could have caught. Could have been enough and been there before they ever started.
She was using way before I was born. A few years ago she went away for several years and has been clean since but I KNOW that pain. Wondering where they are, if they’re going to come home, if they’re safe because when they don’t and aren’t no one cares. You don’t know someone’s story and why they chose that path. No one chooses to be an addict, they just want to escape and it ends up holding them captive and promises them false happiness.
The only spoiler is it only takes ALL of your happiness away. Those little things that got you through the rough times? Gone. Those children you love? Eh. Your morals? What are those. Drug addicts aren’t bad people and I truly believe that because my mama isn’t. They just got lost along the way trying to escape the torments of life and when we didn’t catch them the drugs did and whispered all these false promises in their ears.
YOU DON’T know someone’s story. YOU DON’T know how that person got there or just how important they are to someone. Everyone is missed. Every life is valuable and everyone deserves to be saved.

There are way too many corners of 18th street and not enough coping, overcoming addiction & recovery, forgiveness, understanding, compromise, staying true to the vows, and willingness to fight for someone. I am sure I missed a human condition or a few, but that's where we are today. Powerful song...made me cry and I don't even have a daughter. But I know & know of those whose lives & families that have been destroyed by their addiction to alcohol/drugs/gambling/you name it. The insidious part is THEY have to change it up and all those who love them are powerless to change that. It's like living a train wreck you can't stop but know it's coming.

This makes me cry for my daughter. We have 3 of her children here. Begging , kids, crying, yelling, talking ,loving, helping, hasnt worked. Drugs and abuse of boyfriend has changed her and kept her. I try to go to sleep at night and thought of her keeps me worried n scared for her. Kids come first but still we have a daughter who is so lost. We still love her even though mad for her giving up. Her kids miss her too. It's at end, n they will probably be adopted by our youngest. Tears n heartbroken.

I drive home the same way
Two left turns off the interstate
    And she's always standing
At the stoplight on 18th Street
    She could be a Sarah
    She could be an Emily
    An Olivia, maybe Cassidy
    With the shaky hands
    On the cardboard sign
    And she's lookin' at me
Bet she was somebody's best friend laughing
Back when she was somebody's sister
Countin' change at the lemonade stand
Probably somebody's high school first kiss
Dancin' in a gym where the kids all talk about someday plans
Now this light'll turn green and I'll hand her a couple dollars
And I'll wonder if she got lost or they forgot her
    She's somebody's daughter
    Somebody's daughter
    Somebody's daughter
Did she give up wondering where the cars all go?
And can she even tell that I don't know what to say?
So I just nod my head and wave
Well, no one's gonna ask what she wants to be
Or why we're both stuck here at the mercy of geography
And whether it shines or rains
Bet she was somebody's best friend laughing
Back when she was somebody's sister
Countin' change at the lemonade stand
Probably somebody's high school first kiss
Dancin' in a gym where the kids all talk about someday plans
Now this light'll turn green and I'll hand her a couple dollars
Oh, and I'll wonder how she felt when no one caught her
    She's somebody's daughter
    Somebody's daughter
    Somebody's daughter
    Somebody's daughter
Oh, I don't know the reasons why
I'm the one who's driving by
And she's the one on the corner of 18th Street
Bet she was somebody's best friend
Back when she was somebody's sister
Bet she was somebody's first kiss
Oh, Dancing in a gym where the kids all talk about someday, someday
Now this light'll turn green and I'll hand her a couple dollars
Oh, and I'll wonder if she got lost or they forgot her
    She's somebody's daughter
    She's somebody's daughter
