Great video, same problem my dryer was having: start for a few seconds, then turn off. I didn't have the same burnt electronics smell by the motor, but it was kinda hot even from just a few seconds. I followed this video step by step and got the motor out. Decided to open up the connector housing on the motor, which showed a couple contacts activated by a little bumper. I saw that one of the contacts was slightly damaged: the contract point "bead" had come out, presumably affecting the function of that contact. I pulled out the contact and soldered the bead back in place, took like 1 minute. Put everything back together and the dryer seems to work fine now! Saved myself $100 and kept a working motor out of the trash :) Full disclosure, I am an engineer and fairly handy. The whole process (taking apart the dryer, testing the voltages, getting the motor out and repaired, and putting it back together) took me a little over 1.5 hours. Thanks again, really great video, good job showing the problem and solution!
I am having the same issue and followed the video instructions and narrowed it down to the motor. Got it out and also took apart the black connector on the wire connection as you did and can see that one of the copper contact points is all black and the other contact point that meets with the black one has a hole where the contact nub should be. Do you think if I place a bead of solder there without having the nub it could still work??
Helped me greatly! I just got it all back together. It ran a little longer than it was before. Here’s hoping this new motor holds up. Thank you so much.
Wait, how come you get voltage between neutral and the ground pins? They're almost the same thing. Neutral is basically the ground coming from your district lowering transformer, where the ground is the one that is on your house.
Just FYI!!! Getting that fan blade off that shaft is SOME BS!! You managed to leave that part out. Holy! Moly!! I've been hammering for an hour now and it's flush but still solid!
Did the motor correct this? Ours is turning on about 4 seconds, then off. When we try to turn it back on it just clicks. Then after a few minutes it'll come back on for a few seconds then off. We've replaced sensors, control board, belt, pully, etc. And still nothing 😞😞😞😞
For this dryer, yes. The motors overload protector kept tripping due to internal motor electrical fault. Your problem sounds similar, but as always the proper diagnostic must be done so you don’t throw the wrong parts at it
I am trying to replace the motor but my model # is dv56h9000ep/a2. Can I still use the same motor you did ? I cant find any other options online or amazon
Sorry, I don’t think the motor featured in this video is compatible. You need DC31-00055J. A quick search revealed that Amazon and Parts Dr. have them in stock as of this writing. More vendors may have them.
This particular motor is part #DC31-00055G. Very common motor for newer Samsung dryers. Use your dryers model number to find the exact motor you need. Got this motor new (open box) for a good deal on eBay. Several suppliers carry them, including Amazon. Shop around for best deal!
I used this video to get the sensors working, but I now have a VERY FRUSTRATING Problem...the lint catcher isn't catching the lint much at all. 3-4 loads and I am on the 2-story roof in winter removing the screen as it is chalked full and clothes won't dry of course. I have taken out and re-installed the basket/sensor assembly now 3 times and still the problem. I think I'm not getting it set right. There is a felt pad around the top rim of the assembly that, when I try to drop it in, I think is supposed to all go inside the dryer's exhaust ductwork. It's worked fine for 16 months, then started this...actually began shortly after a new roof but it is exhausting and there is a ton of wet lint that makes it through to the vent after a few loads at the roof's exhaust. I was hoping to find a video that would show how the unit is to fit into the dryer...does one exist? It's going to snow again so I won't be able to get back up there for a while so I just removed the screen at the rooftop vent for now. Any ideas for this old 67 yr old Marine....please?
How does your lint screen look? Does it have tears in the screen? Is the lint screen housing secured tightly? Also, have you cleaned out your vent hose and wall vent pipe entirely?
Motors range from around $70-$300 depending on whether you get aftermarket or genuine OEM. There are different types of Samsung motors as well. New dryers start at roughly $500 or so for a new basic dryer. Scratch N Dent specials and fancy features greatly affect dryer values.
I just replaced the motor. It worked for about a minute then started to make the same sound then shut off. It will run for a few seconds then cut off. There is a burning smell. What could be the issue?
Did you put in a NEW motor? Check connections, check relay voltage as shown in video. Loose wire connections can cause problems, even when they’re part of a multi wire connector. Otherwise, might’ve gotten a defective motor.
Please if u can respond as fast as u can mine is brand new & it does this. We had a a electrician install the plug with the proper amount of voltage but it still does this? Any reason why
If it’s brand new, it should be under warranty. The video explains one reason why. The diagnostic will tell. Call up Samsung and have some warranty work done!
So, my estimate for repairman would be: ~$60-75 for diagnostic ~$100 for OEM motor ~$50-150+ for labor This is a broad estimate. Could be more or less depending on your area, what company you use, and the skill level of the tech
If new, that dryer should be under warranty. Otherwise, ensure your circuit breaker is switched on and check voltage at your outlet. Also, ensure the plug is wired correctly
Should have started off with "you need to purchase a new motor FIRST" . thought I could fix it without that. Plus, how much is the motor cuz at this point I've fixed 6 different things with this damn machine that is only 5 years old & I'm not spending $500 on a new motor.

Nice work yourself! Hopefully other handy people come across this comment

Great video my friend! I like the way you do a voltage check before you tear into it. Smart move.
Thank you!
Very good video specially the neutral unbalanced voltage check tips. I wish I saw that before throwing my dryer and paying 1k $ for a new one 😢
Mine is doing the exact thing. I'm breaking out the multi meter now. Thanks!
Helped me greatly! I just got it all back together. It ran a little longer than it was before. Here’s hoping this new motor holds up. Thank you so much.
Glad it helped!
Thanks it was helpful. I am not intuitive on this stuff and would never had gotten it done without this
Glad it helped!
Our belt apparently broke. Hopefully that’s all. Used your video to see how to take it apart. Thank you.
Happy to help

How much was the motor? Vs a new dryer?

I don’t seem to be getting anything on the active neutral wire. What could cause that issue?
Somewhere in the circuit there’s an open. Check wire itself and the door switch. Is the relay clicking at all?
Where can I still buy this specific dryer from Samsung even though it’s discontinued?
No idea. I just fix em

Yes a brand new motor off of Amazon. It worked for about 10 seconds then started making a terrible noise and shut off. Thanks for the help.

What size socket was used?
I don’t recall exactly. Hopefully you have a good metric socket set to keep trying them until one fits.
14mm
How much would this cost to have a repair man do this?
So, my estimate for repairman would be:
~$60-75 for diagnostic
~$100 for OEM motor
~$50-150+ for labor
This is a broad estimate. Could be more or less depending on your area, what company you use, and the skill level of the tech
My company charges a flat rate of 225.00 plus tax and parts for regular repairs (diagnostic included)
@@appliancealliance4444 what's your info are you located in Utah?
@@nehahavili6670 sorry no across the country from you. but i cant imagine the companies around you are much different.
Just fixed one today had a sock lodged in the blower wheel.
Good work!
Im so livid i hust bought mine today and the dryer isnt working at all i check the sensor and nothing. Its new.
If new, that dryer should be under warranty. Otherwise, ensure your circuit breaker is switched on and check voltage at your outlet. Also, ensure the plug is wired correctly
Didn’t need a whole motor
Should have started off with "you need to purchase a new motor FIRST" . thought I could fix it without that. Plus, how much is the motor cuz at this point I've fixed 6 different things with this damn machine that is only 5 years old & I'm not spending $500 on a new motor.
