The last question ended up turning into the best question because of his answer. Thats the best advice anybody can give. Trust your taste. Its so easy to try and make music based on what you think others might like. If you do it based on what you like you're developing your own sound by your taste for music. Imagine being a cook and trying to cook meals that you dont like but you think others would like. You have to taste test the meal while cooking to make sure its good and the same with music. Creating the opposite way would be like a vegan at the grill of a bbq trying to cook up all the meat for everybody.
Man... this brother right here. Brian can blow. Check out the Albums with Gil. These were my dudes. Used to go to sleep listening to their albums back in the mid 70's Loved their music... very conscious lyrics... "New York's like Johannesburg, Detroit's like Johannesburg, Philadelphia's like Johannesburg... Can I See Your I.D.... Can I see Your I.D." " A toast to David Walker(Google him)... A toast to Martin King... A toast to all Black leaders, who dreamed a golden dream"
i've finally completed my (albeit) simple dream rig. Korg SV-1 on the bottom rack with a minimoog model d on the top. along with a couple of nice delays and moogerfoogers.
Slick I run a similar feel but don’t have such a nice synth running. I do the sv1 on the bottom and an ultra nova top left for bass and vocoder and a Roland Gaia for poly and pads
the best way for me is to compose is when you suddenly hear a melody that appears on ypur mind and you develop it, the other way is an improvising composing but not the real thing
Peace and blessings to brotha Jackson and our Ancestor Gil Scott....Thank father God they got rid of those ATROCIOUS hand held mics, jesus mary and joseph.
Who's the interviewer? He looks so out of place... is he a DJ or something? "If I haveto make a track but I never touched this instrument (the Rhodes) before, what do I need to know?" WTF? Brian's answer is good: just switch on the delay. Actually it feels a little disrespectful for RB to pair unprepared interviewers like this guy with music legends like Brian Jackson. Same thing (even worse) with the interview to Morton Subotnick, it felt embarrassing even watching it from home
Maybe he is not hat good in this interview but i saw a lot of Red Bull interviews when he was hosting it. And i can say he was one of the best with his questions and tactics. The Teddy Riley masterclass etc
I actually don't enjoy the way he tries to find things out or conduce answers to Brian Jackson, he has another one with him also, and I feel he is a bit pretentious kinda over intellectual and over contemporary in his approach. Gives me a bad taste to hear him I must admit. Also, as well informed as he might be/is, I guess it's not just about that when you talk music, sound, maybe he lacks the capacity to share his passion for music, if he really has it.
If you want to know more about Brian Jackson and his music...
