If it's new tarmac it'd make sense to have the guys drift it out under the prerequisite of a test day. Laying that much rubber that quickly especially since they technically still use a "racing line" just makes the track settle into its new tarmac faster. Even off-line would probably have grip because of how they try different entries and exits.
