I met Rabbit a few times and he is a great guy, as all the beach boys are. Back in the early 90's I worked at the rental stand for the Outrigger for a couple years. Boy do I miss those guys. Kimo, Alex, Tommy, Frances, and the many others. I learned more about life on that beach than in the 20 since. You could never meet nicer people.

My freshman year at UH I was hired at the brand new Sheraton Waikiki Hotel as a lifeguard at their pools and beach in May of 1971 (Mahalo Coach Larry Price, Head of Security) and I also worked for Aloha Beach Services at the Sheraton and Royal Hawaiian Hotels as a canoe 2nd captain and surf instructor from 1974 thru 2000 and beyond. I surfed with Rabbit Kekai, and his brother Jamma, Leroy Ah Choy and Blue Makua Jr. Yes I knew Kimo Makua, Alec Apo, Tommy Suesue, and my good friend, the one and only Frances “Fongie” Ching. There were so many more and so many precious memories . Aloha pumehana to my canoe captains Dukie (Hokulea ‘76) Kuahulu and Moku Kamaka, Teddy Bush, Bobby Nagatani, Clayton Wee, David Peterson, Blackout Whaley, Joein and Chico Ho, Mud Werner, James Koko, Dingo, Wata, Poo, Wendell Aio, Wesley Chong, David Malo, Big Al Ford and so many more… Special warmest Aloha to Harry Robello and Didi. Those were the days my friend…❤
