Great to see a couple of projects that didn't see the light of day. A lot of people have such a negative view of 'failure', but it's really one of the best ways to learn. I've had many ideas that didn't work out the way I wanted or expected, and I don't consider any of them 'failures'. As long as you are learning, you are succeeding.
I think this project failed because of friction between ice packs and a can. You were just heating up the icepack and a can, plus heat dissipation was not efficient. What I think would be great is blowing pressurized air at a turning can, with a flow regulation. I just don´t know how you can do that with lego. Or how you did before, with water giving it´s heat to the ice pack and taking it back from a can. But great video anyway. It´s nice to see someone thinking outside a box.
In life, you either win, or you learn. I think learning makes you stronger as a builder. We need it once in a while. This was a really good project Riley! I think you should make an entire video for scrapped ideas. It would actually be pretty cool
I have been working on a robot for about three or four months as of posting this, and it still needs work. My point in saying this is never give up... if you think your idea is good, then keep working on it. You have not failed unless you've quit.
Definitely would love to see the fail videos. As long as you’ve got a positive attitude and can laugh about it when it doesn’t work, you’re just showing one of the biggest parts of the engineering design process. Plus you get more content to upload in the end, win win
One thing with the recorder machine. I think since the LEGO parts don't cover the holes fully, it won't play the sound right. Because our fingers mould into the holes, it covers them fully, allowing the air to continue down the tube. If you have some parts that cover the holes fully, it maybe could work.
Wow, I expected this to just be a funny blooper video but it was more that that, that speech at the end was amazing, all of my LEGO inventions have failed so this was really inspiring, thanks 🙂
Very inspirational! I think too many content creators only showcase their successes, while downplaying or burying the part of the process that makes their successes all the more meaningful. Thank you for showing us this! P.S. I wanted to share this on Twitter, but you haven’t posted there since last year, and I wanted to be able to credit you properly (hoping to RT).
I thought he was going to put the soda in the freezer! Note: putting a sealed can of soda in the freezer will make it explode, becuase the carbon dioxide expands a lot.
Wrong, carbon dioxide cannot expand. The liquid in the can turns into ice releasing carbon dioxide and because ice takes up more volume than a liquid it causes the can to pressurise and explode
Loved all the ideas. Loved the speech at the end. So inspiring. I'm also trying to be like you and build lego things. P.S. I also tried to make a lego bank. It worked! It only had the key hole though. #SSS!
Heat transfer between solids are a lot slower than between a liquid and a solid, The running water one has a lot of vantages: more surface contact, a constant flow that keeps cold water in contact while the water that already stole heat from the can go alway, etc
I thought of some solutions to your failed inventions Super fast cooling soda machine: Ice packs won't be cold for long so ice cubes are probably better (they also have less friction). Recorder robot: Find a better seal for the recorder holes, like the rubber 1×2 axle hole technic piece. I hope they work!
Brick Science the reason why it failed is because of the friction that it was making if you have ever watched any type of auto racing you would get this or if you have heard of a friction burn. I love the idea though!
I think a reason why the Drink Capsule Idea didn't work compared to the Can Cooler with the water is because its not letting the Ice Packs touching the surface of the Can for longer like if the gears and stuff were more slowed down it might be able to get colder but since it was moving faster it couldn't absorb as much cold and stuff especially with the faster speeds heating up the Ice Packs
I love building with Lego technic but barley have enough pieces for a car. Can u make like a short list of legos to buy so I can start building. Or can u do like a Lego give away. Love your videos
You could just replace the soda in the original cooler with ice packs, run it until the water is cooled, then replace the ice packs with the soda and run it as normal. Heat transfer works in both directions -- whatever is colder will warm up and whatever is warmer will chill down. If the water is hotter than the thing placed in the cooler, then the water will cool.
the transmition of my lego panther doesn't work when the tank is going in reverse what do i do come up with a better design it doesn't work rince and repeat... i haven't slept for three days
Riley, can you make the star saber, skyboom shield and requiem blaster from transformers armada? I'd love to see what you'd do with those designs out of lego, and if you'd make them actually look like they do in show and as useable roleplay weapons
I work at sonic and I've worked on a crude version of the can cooler you need something big enough to hold a ice and water and some electronics set up for it so spin the can and experiment with the speed
Using the concept of how it would cool it, if you figured out a more polished version you should make a non lego version and patent it, then make it commercially accessible and become a millionaire and come up with ideas for inventions and make a prototype in lego, then make a finished version out of non lego and become a household known name, such as people like elon musk or bill gates, all people who are known by pretty much everyone, then after that you are set for life 👍.

Very good man, I really admire someone who can admit failures!

not if you only leave it in for a few minutes
Just leave it in for 30 minutes you fool

You can never fail as long as you learned from the situation. 🧠 💜
You could put a warm/room temp soda can in the freezer for 5 minutes and it still won’t get cold that fast.
You should do. A video of all of your failed projects

Challange: make an automatic orange splicer and peeler
Tip: use aluminium foil and ice to keep it cool wait for it to be cold then spin it
it was probable the friction but the video was still cool at least more than the soda. it really was dope tho

For some reason i think the recorder machine have a possibility to work if you put some silicon on it
GRAB ME THAT MACHINE!!!!!!!!
Awwww it’s sad these failed as they would be amazing if it worked
just use a torque converter, gear it so that it spins slower and you will have more torque to overcome the friction between that and the ice pack
Why do you still have only 1k subs ? That's impossible.
