The first one that comes to mind was when Maria (Grimm Reaper) was fighting Tock and her cronies and after she slashed her eyes she fired literally 2 shots and was out of ammo.
I love how Ruby always has other people's backs during these battles. Maybe she's not as flashy as she used to be but I just adore how her main priority is typically just flat out protecting her teammates.
I mean, typically the heroic team leaders are the support/defenders of their teammates since the team is their priority. Ruby, Jaune, how do you think Summer died? Probably died defending on or more of her teammates

Honestly, I don’t expect anyone to copy him tbh. Its important to be unique and create your own lane. I just hope they go back to faster fights tho. I can ignore the lack of acrobatics as long as its faster paced.

The fact they made the Maria versus Tock fight actually 60 seconds long, and it be amazing on top of that shows how far CRWBY has come along. They found their groove.
34:01 was honestly my favorite part of volume 6. All of Ruby’s emotions coursing through her memories, focusing on what and who she wants to protect. Yang, Blake, Weiss, (back then) her memory of Penny & Pyrrha and her mom. Seeing Summer for the first time gave me goosebumps and man, the music they paired it with was truly amazing.
It's the Fight Choreo. Monty's signature is: There are no wasted movements. Every attack leads to another and looks great at doing so. V4 and 5 had so many wasted movements that looked wrong to everyone who was spoiled by Monty's style of choreo.
I really love the work they did on Cinder vs Neo the way it feels like they are fighting for momentum of the fight and the way certain moves are set up like the round kick to hook kick to jumping off Neo's chest to bounce off the ceiling with a Maiden fire punch. So smooth
cool detail: throughout the whole fight with adam, yang kept her cool, never got angry, but the instant adam insults blake by calling her a coward her eyes go red. *that* was the thing that sent her over the edge and got her mad, and i think thats great
I can see that the fight scenes in the newer seasons do kind of lack the old energy from when Monty was around, but to me, for Yang specifically, it was so good to see how her fighting style noticeably got a lot wiser and more calculated in volumes 4 through 6 instead of the old hot mess that was only efficient because of her ferociousness but wouldn't really work with smarter and more skilled and persistent enemies. you can really tell how much she's grown, and I think her line "I may not be faster, but I am smarter" as simple as is, conveys that well.

One of the things people like to criticize about Yang vs Adam is the way she just shrugs off multiple hits from Moonslice, but I think I can actually give some logic to that. Notice how Moonslice expresses in this fight when compared to say, the Black trailer or Volume 3. In the Black trailer and Volume 3 it’s a single devastating slice. Huge amounts of force compressed across the thin edge of a sword, which can cut through almost anything. But in this fight all his Moonslice attacks are wild, unfocused. They come out as large waves or plumes or force, not the clean and focused cuts of the past. That’s why Adam’s attacks were doing so much less. All that force was scattered over such a large area rather than being focused into a single thin line of devastation.
I never noticed how much finesse Blake has when she fights, I think she is becoming my favorite to watch fight in the whole show even more so than Neo.
Some of the best battles of the series and most emotional as well. Especially the last one..... With INDOMITABLE playing in the background! It bought me to actual tears. 😎👍😈
I iust realized. Ruby had been seen using her speend to fly for short periods of time. But has also pickup others. But what if she picked up john. Would she be able to fly indefinitely or for a longer period of time
not really tho cause when she uses her ability on others it literally dematerializes them on an atomic level as the show said so i really doubt jaune would be able to boost her aura while they're flying lol
when you watch the series and pay enough attention you'll realize that everyone Cinder ever fought is a better fighter than she is. She only wins through team numbers, sheer dumb luck, or by using her Maiden power on non maidens
No, she absolutely wouldn’t win the fight. You could tell at first Cinder didn’t want to fight Neo. When she did start properly fighting Neo , she got at least two hits in WITHOUT her maiden powers, or even a weapon while Neo was armed. Cinder does tend to rely on her maiden powers a lot of the time but she is nowhere to useless without them.
Not sure why or if it's even intentional, but Cinder fighting without weapons feels and looks really neat. At least to me it looked like she attempts slashes with her grimm hand more often than not and keeps her other hand in a fist
It's such a unique fighting style. We've never seen Cinder fight without weapons until then, and when she does have them she has an air of elegance to them. Without them, she has a very feral style of slashes and wide swings. It kinda feels like symbolism: With her powers she's masterful and elegant, but without them, she's wild and uncouth.
Some people are saying that the Yang and Blake vs Adam is animated really well and that the animators found their groove for that scene. Rumor has it that Monty Oum actually choreographed a part of the Yang Vs Adam fight before he had passed. From 19:08 - 19:35. You can tell the difference between that part of the fight vs the rest. It feels more fluid and the 2 flow against each other.
Please explain. Maybe I'm just blind and just like badass fights but I genuinely cannot tell a difference between his choreography and literally anyone elses. I've even watched dead fantasy and all fight scenes choreography looks the same to me. From anime to web series to video games to movies. It all looks the same to me.

Those 30 seconds choreographed (allegedly) by Monty is fluid and both Yang and Adam attack AND defend at the same time. It's like a dance. His fighting style is quick, snappy, camera movement to sorta mirror the intensity of the fight sequence. His big thing was "waste no movement, waste no time, waste no momentum." Take 19:21 - 19:27 Adam goes in and swings at Yang. She grabs his arm, pulls it up, and punches him twice, pulls his arm against his back to push his upper body forward into a knee and then punches him away as he turns to her. Camera angle changes, and without a pause, Yang punches, Adam brings the sword in his right hand from the ground to center to block Yang's punch, keeps swinging the sword up to his left side while at the same time, swiftly pulls out a gun in his left hand and shoots. Yang, despite just throwing a punch, dodges the gunshot by crouching down left. Adam swings his sword back down at her, and Yang dodges and pulls her body back up to the right while getting a quick jab in, then follows right into her going for the quick rapid punches which Adam quickly blocks with his sword. She deals a big punch and knocks him back and the camera finally changes angles. Immediately after the camera angle changes, without missing a beat, Yang is already running towards Adam and jumps. Mid-air she fires her right hand gauntlet to give her momentum and right as she fires, Adam is reacting by reaching for his sword already and quickly pulls it up to block her kick. As Yang's left foot gets blocked by his sword, she is already firing her left hand gauntlet to propel her right foot into his face. And that all happens really quick but its fluid, it flows and it's almost a rhythm. And their body movements make sense. There isn't a pause in this. No re-adjustment. Its one continuous wave of motions. He shoots, she dodges crouching down left. He swings his sword down, she dodges, gets a quick punch in the stomach, then she goes up right. She goes into rapid punches from up right, Adam blocks bringing his sword from down right to center. 2 camera angle changes in 6 seconds. Compare that part of the fight to the next fight sequence not choreographed by Monty from 19:48 - 19:58 Yang flies in and Adam swings his sword down right. Yang fires a right hand gauntlet shot to propel her to the side while mid-air. Camera angle changes as she flies to the left. Camera follows but less than half a second later, the camera angle changes again while she's still mid-air. She fires her left hand gauntlet, twirls around in a 360 and finally kicks him. While Yang does all of this, Adam just... stands still and watches her with his sword still in the down right. After kicking him, she uses both gauntlets to fire herself down to the ground while Adam swings from the right side of his body, up and over to the left and turns to face her. His sword swings down towards the ground in front of him and it swings up to the left side of his body really quickly but then instead of swinging the sword from the position it's in (left side of his body) he brings it back to the right side of his body and up over his head and swings at Yang who uses her left hand gauntlet to push herself to the side to dodge. Camera angle switches again to Yang as she slides back. There's a very very small pause as she stops sliding. There's a small missed beat before she starts running forward again. She uses both gauntlets to go into a front flip before using her gauntlets again. Camera angle changes and she's high in the air coming down on Adam. During the slide back, the small pause, the jumping forward using gauntlets, and the gauntlet front flip that sends her high into the air, Adam is just standing there. He's offscreen but when he's finally back in frame, his character model hasn't moved. All he does is pull out a gun, fires it at Yang who doesn't need to dodge because he misses his shot, and gets punched. She lands, and before Adam can swing his sword, she kicks him in the side. He finally swings his sword from the up left to the down right, she dodges down, then jumps up kicking him twice while he just takes the hits. She pushes up off his body with her left foot, going into the air with a twirl. As she is preparing her left fist to come down on him, Adam pulls up his sword to block it. Camera angle changes to Adam blocking the punch with his sword. Less than half a second later, the camera angle changes, and Adam pushes Yang back. In this fight sequence there are 6 camera angle switches in 10 seconds. And that's not including the 2 camera angle switches from when she first flies towards him. In the first fight sequence, Adam gets punched and slides back and in less than a second, Yang is firing a gauntlet to push herself into the air towards him, he looks up, sees Yang already flying to him, and in a split moment, pulls up his sword to block. (19:25 - 19:26). In the second fight sequence, Yang slides back, briefly pauses, runs forward, jumps using both gauntlets, goes into a front flip, and uses her gauntlets again to push herself high into the air and the whole things takes Yang 3 whole seconds to do this (19:51 - 19:54) and the only thing Adam does in those 3 seconds is watch her? Then pulls out a gun at the last moment and misses a single shot? In the first fight sequence, he reacts to yang flying towards him in less than half a second, and brings up his sword to block her kick before getting blind-sided by a second kick. But in the second fight sequence, 3 whole seconds pass of yang sliding back, going towards him, using her gauntlets twice, and going into the air, and he doesn't do anything. He doesn't try to block, he doesn't react, he doesn't go in for an attack. He just stands there and doesn't do anything until she's already coming down on him, and all he does is pull out a gun and misses his shot? In the first fight sequence, his sword fluidly moves. If he swings from right to left, his next attack will be from left to right. If he swings from up left to down right, the next swing will be from down right. In the second sequence, he's just flailing. The sword goes from the right side of his body, over to the left side of his body as he rotates with it. The sword keeps going to the left side of him and instead of swinging the sword from that position, he takes a beat to bring it back up to the right side and swing from there. There's no fluidity. It doesn't make sense. The camera angles switches too much as well. In Monty's 30 second fight sequence (19:08 - 19:35) there are 16 camera angle switches. But in a different 30 second fight sequence (21:18 - 21:48) NOT choreographed by Monty there are 28-30 camera angle switches. Watch in 0.5 speed the 30 second fight sequence Monty choreographed, then watch in 0.5 speed the other 30 second fight sequence NOT choreographed by Monty. Massive difference. It might not seem different at first but if you slow down the fights and analyze it, then rewatch in regular speed, you'll see the big difference.
@rafaelnavarro6072 I guess I just don't have an interest in analyzing things to that degree. I'm here for badass fights not to examine each and every frame of the fights. Didn't do that with dead fantasy too. As long as a piece of media has either a story I find interesting or fights I think are badass and can turn off my brain I'm happy. Bit when I watch rwby I'm looking to unwind from reality and don't want to put time and effort into examining things. Compared to Ergo Proxy where I will over analyze everything cause I came into it with that expectation and love the concepts explored in it. Don't get me wrong I like rwby just not to the degree of other things. Good on you for being able to want to analyze things like that though. Was interesting to read.
@@ericjohnson5928 No for sure! I completely understand not wanting to just sit and analyze every fight in RWBY. Myself, and majority of people who praise Monty's style, don't really do that. The difference is clear without analyzing. The whole point of my analysis was to showcase the difference in fight choreography in Monty's style VS someone else's style and how it compares. And the best way to do that is in fact the whole Yang and Blake VS Adam. In the same scene, with the same characters we get 2 drastically different fight choreography. Too many variables when comparing different scenes or fights from different seasons. But that fights shows both. You can take any fight scene from season 2 and just watch how fluid every motion is and how everything flows together. The character's actions and attacks ease into the next. The whole train fight in season 2 is perfect example. Especially Yang VS Neo. Then go and watch the fight scenes from like Season 5 or 6. Drastic difference in fluidity and character movement.

@@jackthecommenter2768 I agree with you, RWBY's combat suffered a lot after Monty's passing (May he RIP 🙏) , Seasons 1 and 2 fights were awesome, 3 wasn't bad, the only memorable fight from 4 was Qrow vs Tyrian ( imo) 5 had Raven vs Cinder and then there's the fights here in 6 which shows that the fight scenes are slowly being restored to their former glory, it'll take time but at least progress is being made.
Watching this I then remembered that Tai-Yang actually exists, so I’m wondering why he hasn’t made an appearance during this whole ordeal. You’d think with how good Team STRQ was he’d be one the first respondents. But this is probably me wanting too much.
Yeah they surely stepped up the game during this season when it comes to animation and fluency of the fights. And it's even better in V7 and it's been good in V8 too so far.
Don’t get me wrong I loved them. But I think what some people dislike is how similar all the fighting styles are, in the first seasons each character had a specific style or way they handled their weapon. Now however they all use long arching slices or punches, especially when their weapon doesn’t really call for an attack like that. We no longer see that variety of attacks. Another point is how fast paced each fight is, I like faster fights but lingering or slowing down time for a shot, on blows or punches can greatly help something seem more powerful (ex: in the tavern when Cinder goes to fire punch Neo) and when they do slow down a fight it gets bogged down and loses its pace. I still like the show and it’s fights scenes, I just think there are somethings they can improve with it. I hope this helped!

They can never make up for the unique style that Monty had with his animations but I do think they found a good alternative that's creative and showcases character development throughout the series. The Cordovin fight when the mech hit the hill looks like those God of War games when you fell a giant foe for a few seconds to land hits on their body directly
agreed, although at some point you shouldn't overmilk a villain. Adam had a fairly good arc, and a satisfying end. after a fairly bold power grab and attempt on haven that backfired, he lost his chance at is ultimate goals of placing the faunus on top of the world, and knew he couldn't receive any help from Salem and her circle, and as such vented all his remaining drive and energy into taking revenge on the woman who first abandoned him, and then repeatedly kept showing up to get in his way and mess up his plans. And once Blake was finally able to confront him, I knew his time was limited.

Notice how Moonslice expresses in this fight when compared to say, the Black trailer or Volume 3. In the Black trailer and Volume 3 it’s a single devastating slice. Huge amounts of force compressed across the thin edge of a sword, which can cut through almost anything. But in this fight all his Moonslice attacks are wild, unfocused. They come out as large waves or plumes or force, not the clean and focused cuts of the past. That’s why Adam’s attacks were doing so much less. All that force was scattered over such a large area rather than being focused into a single thin line of devastation.
Makes sense, he's letting his anger get the better of him, losing concentration and focus

No, she absolutely wouldn’t win the fight. You could tell at first Cinder didn’t want to fight Neo. When she did start properly fighting Neo , she got at least two hits in WITHOUT her maiden powers, or even a weapon while Neo was armed. Cinder does tend to rely on her maiden powers a lot of the time but she is nowhere to useless without them.

Not sure why or if it's even intentional, but Cinder fighting without weapons feels and looks really neat. At least to me it looked like she attempts slashes with her grimm hand more often than not and keeps her other hand in a fist
It's such a unique fighting style. We've never seen Cinder fight without weapons until then, and when she does have them she has an air of elegance to them. Without them, she has a very feral style of slashes and wide swings. It kinda feels like symbolism: With her powers she's masterful and elegant, but without them, she's wild and uncouth.
That 60 seconds was real time, nice attention to deal on RT's part.
Some people are saying that the Yang and Blake vs Adam is animated really well and that the animators found their groove for that scene. Rumor has it that Monty Oum actually choreographed a part of the Yang Vs Adam fight before he had passed. From 19:08 - 19:35. You can tell the difference between that part of the fight vs the rest. It feels more fluid and the 2 flow against each other.
Please explain. Maybe I'm just blind and just like badass fights but I genuinely cannot tell a difference between his choreography and literally anyone elses. I've even watched dead fantasy and all fight scenes choreography looks the same to me. From anime to web series to video games to movies. It all looks the same to me.
@@ericjohnson5928 The fight between 19:08 - 19:35 is high intensity, fluid, fighting. There is minimal pausing in the action. Those 30 seconds choreographed (allegedly) by Monty is fluid and both Yang and Adam attack AND defend at the same time. It's like a dance. His fighting style is quick, snappy, camera movement to sorta mirror the intensity of the fight sequence. His big thing was "waste no movement, waste no time, waste no momentum."
Take 19:21 - 19:27 Adam goes in and swings at Yang. She grabs his arm, pulls it up, and punches him twice, pulls his arm against his back to push his upper body forward into a knee and then punches him away as he turns to her. Camera angle changes, and without a pause, Yang punches, Adam brings the sword in his right hand from the ground to center to block Yang's punch, keeps swinging the sword up to his left side while at the same time, swiftly pulls out a gun in his left hand and shoots. Yang, despite just throwing a punch, dodges the gunshot by crouching down left. Adam swings his sword back down at her, and Yang dodges and pulls her body back up to the right while getting a quick jab in, then follows right into her going for the quick rapid punches which Adam quickly blocks with his sword. She deals a big punch and knocks him back and the camera finally changes angles. Immediately after the camera angle changes, without missing a beat, Yang is already running towards Adam and jumps. Mid-air she fires her right hand gauntlet to give her momentum and right as she fires, Adam is reacting by reaching for his sword already and quickly pulls it up to block her kick. As Yang's left foot gets blocked by his sword, she is already firing her left hand gauntlet to propel her right foot into his face. And that all happens really quick but its fluid, it flows and it's almost a rhythm. And their body movements make sense. There isn't a pause in this. No re-adjustment. Its one continuous wave of motions. He shoots, she dodges crouching down left. He swings his sword down, she dodges, gets a quick punch in the stomach, then she goes up right. She goes into rapid punches from up right, Adam blocks bringing his sword from down right to center. 2 camera angle changes in 6 seconds.
Compare that part of the fight to the next fight sequence not choreographed by Monty from 19:48 - 19:58 Yang flies in and Adam swings his sword down right. Yang fires a right hand gauntlet shot to propel her to the side while mid-air. Camera angle changes as she flies to the left. Camera follows but less than half a second later, the camera angle changes again while she's still mid-air. She fires her left hand gauntlet, twirls around in a 360 and finally kicks him. While Yang does all of this, Adam just... stands still and watches her with his sword still in the down right. After kicking him, she uses both gauntlets to fire herself down to the ground while Adam swings from the right side of his body, up and over to the left and turns to face her. His sword swings down towards the ground in front of him and it swings up to the left side of his body really quickly but then instead of swinging the sword from the position it's in (left side of his body) he brings it back to the right side of his body and up over his head and swings at Yang who uses her left hand gauntlet to push herself to the side to dodge. Camera angle switches again to Yang as she slides back. There's a very very small pause as she stops sliding. There's a small missed beat before she starts running forward again. She uses both gauntlets to go into a front flip before using her gauntlets again. Camera angle changes and she's high in the air coming down on Adam. During the slide back, the small pause, the jumping forward using gauntlets, and the gauntlet front flip that sends her high into the air, Adam is just standing there. He's offscreen but when he's finally back in frame, his character model hasn't moved. All he does is pull out a gun, fires it at Yang who doesn't need to dodge because he misses his shot, and gets punched. She lands, and before Adam can swing his sword, she kicks him in the side. He finally swings his sword from the up left to the down right, she dodges down, then jumps up kicking him twice while he just takes the hits. She pushes up off his body with her left foot, going into the air with a twirl. As she is preparing her left fist to come down on him, Adam pulls up his sword to block it. Camera angle changes to Adam blocking the punch with his sword. Less than half a second later, the camera angle changes, and Adam pushes Yang back. In this fight sequence there are 6 camera angle switches in 10 seconds. And that's not including the 2 camera angle switches from when she first flies towards him.
In the first fight sequence, Adam gets punched and slides back and in less than a second, Yang is firing a gauntlet to push herself into the air towards him, he looks up, sees Yang already flying to him, and in a split moment, pulls up his sword to block. (19:25 - 19:26). In the second fight sequence, Yang slides back, briefly pauses, runs forward, jumps using both gauntlets, goes into a front flip, and uses her gauntlets again to push herself high into the air and the whole things takes Yang 3 whole seconds to do this (19:51 - 19:54) and the only thing Adam does in those 3 seconds is watch her? Then pulls out a gun at the last moment and misses a single shot? In the first fight sequence, he reacts to yang flying towards him in less than half a second, and brings up his sword to block her kick before getting blind-sided by a second kick. But in the second fight sequence, 3 whole seconds pass of yang sliding back, going towards him, using her gauntlets twice, and going into the air, and he doesn't do anything. He doesn't try to block, he doesn't react, he doesn't go in for an attack. He just stands there and doesn't do anything until she's already coming down on him, and all he does is pull out a gun and misses his shot? In the first fight sequence, his sword fluidly moves. If he swings from right to left, his next attack will be from left to right. If he swings from up left to down right, the next swing will be from down right. In the second sequence, he's just flailing. The sword goes from the right side of his body, over to the left side of his body as he rotates with it. The sword keeps going to the left side of him and instead of swinging the sword from that position, he takes a beat to bring it back up to the right side and swing from there. There's no fluidity. It doesn't make sense. The camera angles switches too much as well. In Monty's 30 second fight sequence (19:08 - 19:35) there are 16 camera angle switches. But in a different 30 second fight sequence (21:18 - 21:48) NOT choreographed by Monty there are 28-30 camera angle switches. Watch in 0.5 speed the 30 second fight sequence Monty choreographed, then watch in 0.5 speed the other 30 second fight sequence NOT choreographed by Monty. Massive difference. It might not seem different at first but if you slow down the fights and analyze it, then rewatch in regular speed, you'll see the big difference.
@rafaelnavarro6072 I guess I just don't have an interest in analyzing things to that degree. I'm here for badass fights not to examine each and every frame of the fights. Didn't do that with dead fantasy too. As long as a piece of media has either a story I find interesting or fights I think are badass and can turn off my brain I'm happy. Bit when I watch rwby I'm looking to unwind from reality and don't want to put time and effort into examining things. Compared to Ergo Proxy where I will over analyze everything cause I came into it with that expectation and love the concepts explored in it. Don't get me wrong I like rwby just not to the degree of other things. Good on you for being able to want to analyze things like that though. Was interesting to read.
@@ericjohnson5928 No for sure! I completely understand not wanting to just sit and analyze every fight in RWBY. Myself, and majority of people who praise Monty's style, don't really do that. The difference is clear without analyzing. The whole point of my analysis was to showcase the difference in fight choreography in Monty's style VS someone else's style and how it compares. And the best way to do that is in fact the whole Yang and Blake VS Adam. In the same scene, with the same characters we get 2 drastically different fight choreography. Too many variables when comparing different scenes or fights from different seasons. But that fights shows both.
You can take any fight scene from season 2 and just watch how fluid every motion is and how everything flows together. The character's actions and attacks ease into the next. The whole train fight in season 2 is perfect example. Especially Yang VS Neo. Then go and watch the fight scenes from like Season 5 or 6. Drastic difference in fluidity and character movement.

@@jackthecommenter2768 I agree with you, RWBY's combat suffered a lot after Monty's passing (May he RIP 🙏) , Seasons 1 and 2 fights were awesome, 3 wasn't bad, the only memorable fight from 4 was Qrow vs Tyrian ( imo) 5 had Raven vs Cinder and then there's the fights here in 6 which shows that the fight scenes are slowly being restored to their former glory, it'll take time but at least progress is being made.

Don’t get me wrong I loved them. But I think what some people dislike is how similar all the fighting styles are, in the first seasons each character had a specific style or way they handled their weapon. Now however they all use long arching slices or punches, especially when their weapon doesn’t really call for an attack like that. We no longer see that variety of attacks. Another point is how fast paced each fight is, I like faster fights but lingering or slowing down time for a shot, on blows or punches can greatly help something seem more powerful (ex: in the tavern when Cinder goes to fire punch Neo) and when they do slow down a fight it gets bogged down and loses its pace. I still like the show and it’s fights scenes, I just think there are somethings they can improve with it. I hope this helped!

They can never make up for the unique style that Monty had with his animations but I do think they found a good alternative that's creative and showcases character development throughout the series. agreed, although at some point you shouldn't overmilk a villain. Adam had a fairly good arc, and a satisfying end. after a fairly bold power grab and attempt on haven that backfired, he lost his chance at is ultimate goals of placing the faunus on top of the world, and knew he couldn't receive any help from Salem and her circle, and as such vented all his remaining drive and energy into taking revenge on the woman who first abandoned him, and then repeatedly kept showing up to get in his way and mess up his plans. And once Blake was finally able to confront him, I knew his time was limited.
When Neo fights its so satisfying
