My local garden centre had a 1 inch trunk leylandii in a 5L pot, went back 3 months later and it had a root the size of 2 inches coming out the pot and rooted in the ground solid, it’s like bamboo, haven’t been back in two years but maybe we’ll have a 100ft monster or a stump from where they decided NOPE!
I usually dont like to brag but the trunk of my Trachy Fortunei is noticeably wider which leads me to a conclusion: Trunks get less massive when potted. True or false? Much love from Germany.
T latisectis gets a thinner trunk than fortunei from my experience pot planted or not. But pot planting also may result in a thinner trunk. Not enough controlled experiments to tell.
