Nice review! I would love to see more reviews for "traditional hunting riflescopes" like good old leupold vx3hd 6,5-20x50 or steiner predator 4 6-24x50. How these would compare to tactical riflescopes?
nice review Brother! I actually just received the newest of the SLX lineup in the mail ( just release about 2 months ago)....the gen 2 3-18X50 SLX with Athena MIL BPR reticle. Right out of the box, it truly blew me away the overall quality, feel and glass quality- just about impeccable TBH. I can easily spend 2 grand on a night force ATACR now, but with this scope, I see no reason to at this point. I think you might want to possibly do a review on this bad boy as well?
I have one on my psa ar 10 in 308. Heavy but the whole setup is not meant to run n gun(20" hbar). But scope is nice however i need to get another mount for it because i need a 20moa mount if i plan to dial and not use the bdc.
The ocular section on the Slx 4-14 was larger and felt like a better field of view but the SLx 4-16 is definitely longer. But the sight picture is a little better. While the GLx 4-16 is shorter than the SLx and of course the glass is way better. I was blown away by the night time difference in the 2. Only one that’s disappointed me thus far is the 3-18x50. At 18x most of the reticle is unusable.
I have the older SLX 4-14x w/ ARC 2 MOA reticle, it was the first riflescope I bought. It's really pretty decent for its price, I just learned that I don't like that reticle much and so it just gathers dust. I would expect the revamped SLX models will be very nice for the $$ if they are like the prisms. I'm tempted to get one of the Nova 1-6x just as a spare, it seems such a good value.

the Gen 2 SLX 3-18 x50 was just released and is a substantial jump up In quality over the gen 1. I have recently compared the two. I have the Athena BPR MIL reticle and its perfectly usable at 18X, and very easy to get behind even at that mag.
You should try and get your hands on a Vector Optics Continental line scope, Chinese body with German glass, I think they compete price wise with primary arms
@CDOES picked it up for $269 with a veteran discount from PA when it came out. Running a Holosun 507c over it on a 20" 5.56. With hand loaded 75 grain HPBTs, I've used it out to about 750. I'm reasonably sure I could stretch it out to 1k, but with a 5.56 it'd have to be a day with zero wind lol.
It stays on about 6 to 7x most of the time. I've found that to be the best all around magnification range to keep the reticle usable from 100 to about 300. For distance, I just crank the magnification to about 12x, line up my shots with the 2moa dot and drop behind the scope. It works flawlessly.
Yeah, the BTR Gen 2 is a nice scope however my 16” Geissele barrel can shoot around 0.75 MOA and that is totally obscured by the center dot on that optic. It’s a bit annoying but other than that I love the Athlon.

I still love the BTR Gen 2. I have one that I compared/contrasted beside the Arken SH4 and I ended up preferring the Athlon. The Arken just didn't pop enough in my environments and I found the reticle illumination really underwhelming - again probably because of my "busy" wooded environments
Just got mine in. Having a bit of trouble getting it to focus at 100 yards. Changing the parallax and diopter and still gets fuzzy at 16. Gotta play with it more I guess
Hey, @C_DOES! I ordered this scope with the ACSS HUD DMR reticle, which on the website says it is calibrated for .308 and some heavier .223 loads. However, I’m wanting to use this on my 16in AR chambered in 5.56, and I do not know if it would be compatible or if it’s something that I should just return for a different reticle. Your reviews are top-notch, and are greatly appreciated by people like me who are getting into the game. Thank you!
Awesome video. I would love to see the pa 4-14x44 slx vs this new 4-16x44 slx. I have the 4-14 and just bought the 4-16. However, there are actually a couple feature I prefer on the 4-14. If the glass is as good as you say they it's probably worth the upgrade.
im also looking at the slx 4-14, i can't seem to find a better FFP scope in the $200 range. The next step up seems to be at the $350+ range but if this scope offers a huge leap over everything else in the $200 price range then I would rather go with that.
@@jmarini4139 I ended up sticking with my 4-14 and returned the 4-16. The 4-16 has nicer finish, better turrets, and seemed to have better light transmission at the magnification. I returned because the brightness knob stuck out much further than on the 4-14. Didn't seem enough to upgrade but if deciding between the two Id probably go with the 4-16.
@@cole8557 Thank you, that's helpful. Can the 4-16 turrets be re-zeroed? I have seen videos of people saying they can't. My 4-14 can, and I really like that feature.
I really liked my Athlon BTR GenII 2x12 for all the reasons you note, glass, reticle, locking turrets. However I found it cannot hold zero. The recoil bounces it around even though I have good mounts and centered/leveled. Anyone else?
I had one for a bit. Sold it and got a strike eagle. Had some issues with glass quality and the reticle. Glass quality was sub par for what I was doing and at distance it became hard to spot my impacts. If I wanted to dial elevation there are no close wind holds to the center of the reticle. The new slx 3-18 looks pretty good.
agree 100%, the brand new Gen 2 SLX 3-18 is fantastic for 499$.... I compared the glass quality with my viper PST gen 2 3-15 ( Philippine glass) and its VERY close , splitting hairs in sharpness, contrast and tone.. the new 3-18 pairs up perfect with the Athena BPR MIL reticle. They have them in stock at PA now .
A request. What would be a good way to test erector stability? I'm envisioning a good reliable laser sight/LAM bolted to a plate with a pic rail for mounting scopes. Align laser and optic, and give scope a bonk with a rubber mallet. See if the scope and laser unzero or unalign with some light bonking. I'm thinking I might make a bonker to keep my evals and tests consistent. Just a spring loaded weight smacking into a plastic or rubber bumper held against the scope or scope ring to jostle everything in a controlled way. Thoughts? I like saying bonk.
I have been watching a ton of your videos I am looking at the SLX 4-16 would you recommend the rgrid 2B like the video or the Apollo for shooting out to 300-400 yards with precision accuracy 2- 6 inch targets ?? Please help I have no way to get behind one of these except through your videos is the best that I've gotten thank you for all the time and detail that you put into these!
I just purchased the 4x14 version of this scope and got it in the mail yesterday. As I was handling it, I noticed when I tapped lightly on the front I can hear a light “rattling” sound. It sounds like a spring? Rattling. Everything is intact and the scope is awesome. Wondering if anyone can explain this to me. It’s coming from the front part of the main tube. In front of the turrets Thanks everyone.
The slx vs sh4 id take the slx I have a glx 2.5-10 I hate the illumination sucks! for a long time I was thursting for the 4-14-44 , Id still rather have the glx, its a dawn dusk situation, where having some illuminations is good, if the daylight I dont think you really need it but to have something in daylight is good/ I was told on m4c by a PA guy you can stuff 2 batteries in the cap but bye bye warrenty. The NF had mediate clarity higher than anything else
It is a great feature if you’re mounting the optic on a bolt action rifle and using a throw lever; it keeps the throw lever from interfering with operating the bolt. I really appreciate that PA does that.
Any opinion on the eyebox difference between this SLx 4-16x44 and their SLx 3-18x50? Is the eyebox a lot better on the 4-16? Im thinking the 4-16 is the way I should go.
I wish they didn't discontinue the glx 4-16 for the 3-18. I havent been behind either, but the 3-18 has too many reviews that lead me to think its the master of none.

Thank you!
Any thoughts on the Trijicon Tenmile 3-18 FFP for an SPR scope. Would love to see you review that one.
Another great vid! Thank you!
Chewing my nails, I own one of these.
I wish PA would expand their PLxC line into higher magnification like 2.5-10x or 4-16x.
I agree. It's a tremendous platform waiting for expansion. They could use that as a blueprint for a capable 1.5-12x.
If possible, make a video about the Leapers UTG 1-8x28
SLX has a define image vs GLX blurred edges. I must say that my new HELIX 2x16 by Element Optics is also and impressive scope.
At some point it'd be neat to see you also review binoculars and monoculars!
I have the 4-14x44 slx and looking to upgrade to the 4-16x44 slx. Would you say its worth it now that you have had time with the 4-16?
Would really love to see a review of the Arken Optics EP5
Great review. Educate me whst arecyou referring to on thr posts?
PA make a SLX 2-12, I'll take it ! Great range. I like PA products, very good value for money.
I was about to bite on this 4-16 but I’ll check out the 3-18 bc of this comment
Sightron has a dope lowly magnified optic
can you do a GLX 4-16 too please? Love your reviews btw I think you're one of, if not the best optic review channels
How is the eye relief/eyebox compared to their 5x macro prism? Kinda stuck between these options.
Thank you! Great review
Just ordered one for $190.
I'd love to see a review on the Swampfox Kentucky Long 2-12!
He has one actually if you scroll back the video list a year or so back.
@rohanmeilor Dang, I missed that. Hopefully he will use it for more comparisons. I'm torn between that one and the SLX 4-16
I own this with a different grid. Theres no horseshoe on mine. I like it a lot
The slx vs sh4 id take the slx
I have a glx 2.5-10 I hate the illumination sucks!
for a long time I was thursting for the 4-14-44 , Id still rather have the glx, its a dawn dusk situation, where having some illuminations is good, if the daylight I dont think you really need it but to have something in daylight is good/
I was told on m4c by a PA guy you can stuff 2 batteries in the cap but bye bye warrenty.
The NF had mediate clarity higher than anything else
Can you review the sig whiskey 4 with illuminated mil hunter reticle
I have a Glx 4-16. Tell me how to get it to you.
What’s your opinion on the PA GLX 3-18? I received it a lil while ago, I could send it in for review
Review coming soon. Physically it's amazing. Optically it's lacking.
Let's go affordable Chinese optics! Make us adequate shooters same as the brand name bois.
This does seem like a very good value. Golf clap for PA
I’m a bigger fan of their 3-18x I really like that magnification a bit better..great scopes for made in china I’ve had worse for more money
yep, much prefer the PA 3-18....they just came out with the new gen 2's. I just got one and it's easily worth double the price. They are remarkable.
Dope ass review
Hey dude can you review the new strike eagle 3-18???
Filming has been finished for it.
@@CDOES so is it worth buying? Haha. Looking forward to that one.
@@redct3d it's not bad, I'll tell you that. But I think the 5-25 is a better purchase.
Arken has a lighter weight scope without a zero stop that’s cheaper than the primary arms
Why does primary arms make the mag ring spin backwards
It is a great feature if you’re mounting the optic on a bolt action rifle and using a throw lever; it keeps the throw lever from interfering with operating the bolt. I really appreciate that PA does that.
Gotta say best scope for $175
So you recommend this or the athlon helos 2-12?
How do you identify a scope snob ? They always start the review by critiquing the box it came in.
Any opinion on the eyebox difference between this SLx 4-16x44 and their SLx 3-18x50? Is the eyebox a lot better on the 4-16? Im thinking the 4-16 is the way I should go.
Arken ep8 review coming down the pipeline?
I wish they didn't discontinue the glx 4-16 for the 3-18. I havent been behind either, but the 3-18 has too many reviews that lead me to think its the master of none.
If only PA would ditch the chevron and go with a dot. Then they would be perfect.
How does this stack up against a arken EPL4 4-16??
I wish they made this in moa and the reticle to be moa
What’s some good mount options for this scope on an ar10. Does 0 moa make more sense than an 10 or 20, for .308?
theres a deal on opticsplanet for the slx 4-14 version with ACSS hud dmr reticle for $200. would going up to $300 get me a substantially better FFP scope? I'm stuck between choosing this or a vortex diamondback tactical.
What would be the advantage of going for the 4-14 version of this scope?
so do you think this would stand up to an 8mm mauser?
If it doesn't PA will at least replace it. I haven't heard of anyone having any serious problems with them yet. But they are new.
@@CDOES well then, I may have found my scope
Does the 2moa reticle have posts at 3,6,9?
