Micro center's are so far away, there's only one in Cali and that's near LA. But atleast Best Buy managed to survive through the last decade and turned around.
Fry's did this to themselves, it,s been a long time since they carried good products & the shelves have been empty for a couple years now, what did you expect?
They will be missed. So many things that have passed in Silicon Valley: The HP way, American Engineers who knew what they were doing, and now Fry's. As far as I'm concerned: Silicon Valley is just a rotted corpse dressed in a nice suit with a bunch of hangers on and lackeys applauding the emperor's new clothes and great cologne. A once vibrant colony of engineers, tinkerers, and amateur radio operators driven right out of the valley and probably their minds. Fond memories of trips to the Fry's Palo Alto on a Saturday afternoon after the electronics flea market at Foothill College. The Electronics Flea Market later moved to Fry's Sunnyvale location and I used to joke about the flea market indoors and out. Coronavirus shut down the 2020 Flea Markets and I fear the 2021 season won't happen. I saw the demise of both the Sunnyvale and Palo Alto stores. There used to be a much larger components offering and at one point there was absolutely no solder at Sunnyvale or Palo Alto. The "consignment model" probably drove off a great deal of suppliers who saw the end coming. I fear both are a very pleasant memory and some things just can't be bought online.
I was young and just came to the 1st Frys store in Sunnyvale, CA, with friends, to watch the world first 1GB Bytes Hard drive that they put in the locked glass cage. It was having crowded of people packed in a small store .. .... People keep saying wow wow wow ....Now I keep saying wow wow wow when hearing Frys is closing stores ....
That guy was hella happy putting up that sign and closing those doors down.
