While the gameplay was very nice, the story, quests as well as the medieval Europe setting were amiss. Story was flat, quests were uninspired, dialogues were so-so. But the most gripe that I hear long time FF fans have is the medieval setting- consensus seems to be that Jap dev's vision of medieval Europe is not the greatest. So ye, the Clive is a kind of a no name. I'm glad that you like FF16. And I'm glad that there is at least some positive reception for this character coming to Tekken.
He looks absolutely incredible. My only gripe is the fact that he’s a soulcalibur character. It’s not rhat he doesn’t belong in tekken because we’ve ascended to a level of devil god kazuya and angel jin, more so that the special effects and over the top visuals just dont fit the game(imo). Still gonna be playing him day 1

I'm extremely excited to see Clive in FF16, him alone makes me want to upgrade to the deluxe edition to play him early. Man, what do Namco and Square have in mind? The ENTIRE Tekken community wanted Tifa in Tekken 8. The character fits perfectly with the game, is super popular, would make the perfect marketing for FFVII Rebirth on PC and instead they bring a character from a game that came out a long time ago that is a Final Fantasy that most fans don't like, a character that isn't popular and doesn't even fit with the game. What a waste. I'm angry, it's not possible.
I almost bought T8 last night because it is on sale, but then I saw the Clive trailer and decided to save my money. I don't like that Harada lied *again* when he said getting FF characters in T8 would be hard and not really in line with the Tekken franchise. Only to turn around and then drop a FF character that literally nobody wanted or asked for anyways. I wasn't crazy for Tifa in T8 either, but there was definitely more hype and interest for her, and she is a much better fit stylistically.
Sounds about right, imagine Baki or Ippo or any character in Final Fantasy that fights using HAND TO HAND COMBAT, after Noctis being so polarizing why go for Noctis 2.0????

Honestly at first I was like “oh god another broken sword character”, but after seeing the gameplay he looks sick as hell. Just hope he has decent customization options.
Clive just doesn’t fit into the Tekken world; he looks like someone straight out of the Middle Ages. Tifa, or at the very least Cloud, would be a much better fit for Tekken compared to Clive.
Someone with a giant sword would not fit in a game that relies on spacing in a competitive scene. Tifa isn't the only fist fighter in the FF franchise. Yoshimitsu has literally been in the games with the more feudal era samurai goofball aesthetics. You people would be ok with Japanese middle ages aesthetics, but not European middle ages, for some reason.
If it was on a new Soulcalibur game, I would be happy... but not in Tekken, a game litteraly named "iron fist". This franchise has enough non fitting characters who are using weapons. If they really wants a partnership with square, they've some others better fitting character. I'm gratefull of the annoncement of a new Virtua Fighter.
Yoshimitsu, Jack, Devil Jin, Alisa, Nina, Claudio. They don't belong in Tekken because they have wings, guns, swords, proyectiles etc... These comments are making me laugh because Tekken has androids, angels, demons, and way more over the top stuff. Clive fits in like it or not.
I don't like these characters so... yeah I don't think they belong here, but they were create for this game serie so... I have to deal with them. I have to accept Tekken universe is a melting pot of cyborgs, demons, martial artist's animals, assassins, and some others cyberninja. I don't like this much, but it's the Tekken universe. But Clive is a medfan warrior, Tekken universe is large but not enough to justify this. For me it's a mistake to put Clive here.

Dev knocked it out of the park with this, cant wait to try him! All the moves look very loyal to the character and the stage is incredible! Im sure we will get Tifa at some point but Clive looks amazing.
Have you considered that Bandai Namco and Capcom have different strategies and might consider a different franchise outside of final fantasy for their next guest?
Told my cousin, who doesn't play Tekken but plays FF more than I do (I'm somewhat old school with FFVIII and IX), and she was like: "They could have used Hugo Kupka? He only uses fists." So yeah, that would have been a compromise between Tifa and FFXVI - if the martial artist aspect of Tifa ever was the actual reason.
but hugo is not as recognizable as tifa tho, don't get me wrong, tifa may be popular for the wrong reasons, but she is popular and that's the point of guest characters: attracting outsiders to play your game, so hugo isn't really a good guest character

I haven't played FF16 yet so I don't really know much about Clive. But when Noctis was debuted in Tekken 7 I was familiar with him because I played the demo of FF15 before the actual game released.
So far every single DLC character has been weak or Mid tier. If he is "broken" he'll be the first and prob still weaker than people Jin or Drag lol. Then yeah nerfed a month later after new comers get into tekken
What he right there makes alot of sense now. Video like this can really show fans the idea and the structure. Plus it also shows that devs play video games themselves n it creates the outside the box ideas for different characters in different universe.

I remember Tekken fans saying (before Tekken 7) the series needed something new, Maximillion even made a video about Tekken needing something new to spice it up.. now Tekken 7 and Tekken 8 offer really fun mechanics and guest characters to the games and some people are screaming this isn't Tekken yada yada.. when Namco adds legacy characters back into the game people rarely use them. Yet the fans will scream that if so and so isn't in the game Tekken is dead.. smh it makes no sense. Tifa is still a possibility but idk why people thought she was gonna be this DLC. She has only really been talked about being a character after T8 came out. Kidda hard for them to jump on it that quick plus, it would be much better to bring her out closer to the next FF7 games release for that cross promotion.
This is 100% false. Tifa has been being asked for heavily since T7. Idk where you're getting your info but you can google this. Since they gave us Noctis in T7, it only increased the anticipation for T8 since she woudl fit perfectly as a fighting game character being having her iconic status.

Clive is literally rock bottom in terms of popularity while Tifa and Cloud are not. FF7 is not my favorite FF of all time (VI is) but Tifa is hands down my favorite FF character correct. That said, I would have taken anyone more relevant than Clive that was an actual martial artist rather than just another sword/magic user that barely threw a single punch in the whole trailer.

My Question to the devs is what thought proccess is going into ignoring what the fans ask for over and over again? Making wrong decision after wrong decision. Recycling same Chars for Dlc, sneeking in MTX, Greeding for stage money outside of Season Pass and than giving us a guest character that really no one asked for.
So Noctis and Victor had a kid, so we are getting Ryu or Ken or Chun Li as Next Guest Character and then Daryl from Walking Dead since we are just dipping back into the same pot, instead of Baki or Any Character from Yakuza, just gonna have to wait for Virtua Fighter 6 then
Here me out. Even BLAITHH THE HALF WOLF from elden ring would have been better. He could be a heavy weight sword wielder with an extremely intricate moveset, heavily relying on sword stances and parries, while not having strong movement. He can however have a strong leap attack like dvj but it has to have counter options to it. Make him a complex character. Then they could have given us an actual snow winter stage as it fits perfectly with his devotion to ranni the witch who is a master of the dark moon. Hes just as niche as clive is, and at least I would be happy lmfao.

Dev knocked it out of the park with this, cant wait to try him! All the moves look very loyal to the character and the stage is incredible! Im sure we will get Tifa at some point but Clive looks amazing.

There are still chances of Tifa in season 2. It's not impossible they took 2 char from FF. SF6 could take Terry and Mai.
Have you considered that Bandai Namco and Capcom have different strategies and might consider a different franchise outside of final fantasy for their next guest?

Personally, that’s what sold me on buying the game afterwards.
Told my cousin, who doesn't play Tekken but plays FF more than I do (I'm somewhat old school with FFVIII and IX), and she was like: "They could have used Hugo Kupka? He only uses fists." So yeah, that would have been a compromise between Tifa and FFXVI - if the martial artist aspect of Tifa ever was the actual reason.
but hugo is not as recognizable as tifa tho, don't get me wrong, tifa may be popular for the wrong reasons, but she is popular and that's the point of guest characters: attracting outsiders to play your game, so hugo isn't really a good guest character
You people are so one note, just because someone fight with fists doesn't make them fits more, they are looking for fun characters not generic ones.

I haven't played FF16 yet so I don't really know much about Clive. But when Noctis was debuted in Tekken 7 I was familiar with him because I played the demo of FF15 before the actual game released.
This guy is gonna be broken at launch to appeal to more people🗿
It takes you 1 hour to lab against him and you can beat 90% of Clive players easy, because most players picking him up will be beginners

So far every single DLC character has been weak or Mid tier. If he is "broken" he'll be the first and prob still weaker than people Jin or Drag lol. Then yeah nerfed a month later after new comers get into tekken
What he right there makes alot of sense now. Video like this can really show fans the idea and the structure. Plus it also shows that devs play video games themselves n it creates the outside the box ideas for different characters in different universe.

It's funny how divided Tekken fans are on this.. I remember Tekken fans saying (before Tekken 7) the series needed something new, Maximillion even made a video about Tekken needing something new to spice it up.. now Tekken 7 and Tekken 8 offer really fun mechanics and guest characters to the games and some people are screaming this isn't Tekken yada yada.. when Namco adds legacy characters back into the game people rarely use them. Yet the fans will scream that if so and so isn't in the game Tekken is dead.. smh it makes no sense. I am so glad we are getting such unique and fun mechanics into Tekken 8, and can I can't wait to see what else the team has in store! I am done glazing now lol

Tifa is still a possibility but idk why people thought she was gonna be this DLC. She has only really been talked about being a character after T8 came out. Kidda hard for them to jump on it that quick plus, it would be much better to bring her out closer to the next FF7 games release for that cross promotion.
This is 100% false. Tifa has been being asked for heavily since T7. Idk where you're getting your info but you can google this. Since they gave us Noctis in T7, it only increased the anticipation for T8 since she woudl fit perfectly as a fighting game character being having her iconic status.

From a business sense it makes EVEN MORE sense to include any FF7 character Cloud/Tifa/Barrett/etc over Clive.
@DaTekkenGod You can't really use the FF16 is a dead game therefore FF7 better argument. Many if not most DLC guest characters are either from "dead" franchise games etc or from something with a potential big cross promotion. This is just people hating because the character isn't what they wanted.

Secondly, you can look up google trends alone. Clive is literally rock bottom in terms of popularity while Tifa and Cloud are not. FF7 is not my favorite FF of all time (VI is) but Tifa is hands down my favorite FF character correct. That said, I would have taken anyone more relevant than Clive that was an actual martial artist rather than just another sword/magic user that barely threw a single punch in the whole trailer.

My Question to the devs is what thought proccess is going into ignoring what the fans ask for over and over again? Making wrong decision after wrong decision. Recycling same Chars for Dlc, sneeking in MTX, Greeding for stage money outside of Season Pass and than giving us a guest character that really no one asked for.

Here me out. Even BLAITHH THE HALF WOLF from elden ring would have been better. He could be a heavy weight sword wielder with an extremely intricate moveset, heavily relying on sword stances and parries, while not having strong movement. He can however have a strong leap attack like dvj but it has to have counter options to it. Make him a complex character. Then they could have given us an actual snow winter stage as it fits perfectly with his devotion to ranni the witch who is a master of the dark moon. Hes just as niche as clive is, and at least I would be happy lmfao.
