    Gennaro and Jamie simply rock. Their recipes and tips are always helpful and both are an inspiration. Last Saturday I made pasta Bianco, following the recipe Jamie gives with a food processor without a pasta machine. I must confess it was not very easy to work on it during 10 minutes, but it the meal was absolutely fantastic. And of course I will try these meatballs next Wednesday after coming back from the street market with all those fresh products, like celery, carrots, basil and parsley.
    Thanks Gennaro, Jamie and all the people envolved in this fantastic Food Tube. Hugs from Brazil.

    I tried doing this and it turn into one of the tastiest most fantastic food experiences I've ever had by cooking on my own. Some of the recipes on this channel are just on another level and I've actually tasted a bunch of expensive restaurant food that wasn't as good as the stuff I throw together at home. A piece of evidence for the thesis that the most important ingredient in any cooking is love

    This reminds me of a time some years ago, I had to go to a home change service this man's Corvette windshield. He offered me lunch, which I initially turned down, but he insisted. A little while later, his mother came out with a platter and a beautifully homemade meatball sub! She was VERY Italian. She had the very thick accent, like Gennaro! I had to return later to service her car also, and I was met with a carafe of wonderful coffee and a tray of Italian pastries for breakfast. They never let me leave without thrusting a bottle of wine into my hands!
    Gennaro's recipe gives me some ideas to tweak me own meatball recipe!

      That's awesome. Replace the bun with pasta and we would call it spaghetti and meatballs. Also goes really well with mashed potatoes. In Australia I grew up with this as a family favourite.

    Ahaha I am Italian born and raised in the south of Italy and having lived in Toronto for about two years and having had the opportunity to meet many Americans Italian I can pretty much say you guys are very much different than us, and you do also cook very differently than we do. But hey big plus one to this guy right here, always makes me smile and remember the lovely time I had in Toronto.

    This recipe is epic, the sauce and meatballs are great, they go well with pasta too. I found that the sauce and meatball is even tastier if you gently cook for a couple of hours, and the next day, well the sauce has tiny tiny parts of meatball in it and the flavour is just great, I'm eating a bowl of it now with meatballs/mozarella + tagliatelle WOW !! Save some for the next day, you won't be disappointed :)

      Just use a pan Taylor Moser
      I take it out and put in plastic container in the fridge overnight, it's nicer the next day :) it even freezes pretty good too :)

      +Taylor Moser make sure it is a heavy based pan otherwise the sauce will burn on the bottom, the crockpot would also work as it offers low consistent heat. 😊 my fav is with fetaccini pasta or with mashed potatoes.

      Season the meat then cover the bowl the meat is in. Refrigerate for 16 to 24 hours, then make your meatballs and they will taste incredible from the seasonings in the meat.

    I can’t believe I spent every Sunday from 12yo to 18yo cooking with my papa from southern Italy, and always thought he was just “rinsing” the can from the tomatoes and using the water “just” to get every last bit. I thought it was because he was so anal about not wasting food. And perhaps that’s the root of the practice. But this was the first time I watched another Italian do the SAME THING. Great vid. Made me think of my papa. Wow. Small things are the best.

    we made this the other day, OMG the best meatball subs we ever had, and we had so much sauce left over that I made pasta with it, OMG no joke, the best pasta we have ever had, I added sausage we had to it, and lots of parmesan, seriously, you will never go to an italian restaurant again if you make this!!

    Oh my lord, I have to make this. Reminds me of home back in Brooklyn years ago when I used to make this every Friday.
    Also, pardon my American-ness-ness Gennaro and friends, but what is "Rocket" exactly? It looks like some sort of arugula? I'm going to assume it is, and that's what the rest of the world calls it, and my dumb country has to name it something else :D

      I didn't know what it was, either. And we may be Americans, but let's try to forgive ourselves. LOL Things are known by different names in different countries. But I agree, it's the real deal. I grew up in Boston where subs like this were made at home all the time - or sold in the "mom and pop" sub shops. There was one place who is famous for their meatballs subs and one of the "secret ingredients" was minced carrots in the meatballs, but like Gennaro, they were blended in so you didn't know they were there. :)

    i wouldnt put too much sauce on the bread before putting it in the oven, i would put it on after it came out to let the bead toast a bit more.

    Thank you Jamie for your excellent recipe for family lasagne on the other channel where comments were blocked. I followed your recipe and cooked a delicious lasagne (first time lasagne cooking). Husband was joking "if it doesn't taste right, we will just blame on Jamie...hahaha... thankfully came out so good that it was wife's good cooking". Love your simple and easy cooking tips.

    This is the real Southern Italy cooking. You can easly find this dish on Sunday, when the family gathers to have lunch together. This recipe goes really far away in the past, when those ingredients where the only one you could find at a relatively cheap price. The tomato sauce itself is one of the best complements for thick-like pasta, with some Parmesan cheese on top.
    I'm kinda glad to see that it's appreciated outside our country :)

      +Robin :D and really eating raw meat has nothing to do with it. The problem is bacteria on the meat and meat itself was put in the flour which could rot and contaminate the flour.

    Not italian at all. Just the ingredients are italians, but nobody here in Italy eats sandwiches with meatballs. We don't eat pasta with meatballs too. We eat meatballs ('polpette' in italian) alone with a side dish.

    I never would have thought about rocket (arugula) on a meatball sub, but knowing how it tastes... I can see it being incredibly good.
