As I get older, I've found that I don't have to take those long adventure rides anymore. I've got memories, some better than others. But, I'm happy I did them when I could.
MC rides now have become almost spiritual in nature, and a 2-6 hour ride is therapy for the soul. Dual Sport rides are the absolute best!

+eveRide ADV Not really possible, because there are many of us who aren't religious and we just shake our heads at the spiritual references. I think all
riders already relate to the idea that motorcycle riding is therapeutic
in the general sense. There really isn't any other reason people ride
other than they love it and get a lot of satisfaction out of it. But
this pretty much applies to all hobbies or activities in general,
doesn't it? Nobody would participate if they didn't have any therapeutic
      benefit of some kind.

I remember my first ever tour in my country, was about 1010km long, I rode for about 14 hours on my (now sold) honda nc700x. It's still impossible to forget the scenes, rain, cold, animals crossing the road and many good friends I met there. Ah and the soreness, I really miss it. After that my life has changes and has been focused to new perspectives as you said. Now I am aiming for a world tour, after two years from now, on my new suzuki v-strom 1000. I just can't wait. Part of the plan is to spend the rest of this year convincing my wife for letting me go :D
Thank you my friend for this amazing video. I teared a bit when I saw your son crying, for I have a 2-year-old and I know how it feels to leave him.
I wish I can ride with you someday...
    Cheers.

It really is the "crappy" times that make the adventure so damn adventurous, especially when you've got people to laugh about it with you. Making new friends on the road is always a treat, and long stretches of pavement are definitely where I get my best singing done

The whole video reminds me of my first trip, 1000 miles, alone, starting in the rain on my supersport bike. Everyone I talked to beforehand thought I was insane (especially with a stock seat). Yes, I had trouble walking about the first 10 hours (~550miles) sitting on the bike, but it was worth everything I had seen and lived that day, even the hypothermia (it rained the first two hours at ~55-60F and even my break at McDonalds using hand dryers didn't help to dry my clothes)!
When it comes to videos like this, where you narrate a story and tell everyone how awesome it is to have a motorcycle, you clearly are the best, Mr Everide!

First rule of road trips. If you think you might need gas, just stop and get gas. Even on a superbike I frequently stop every 50-80 miles just to stay fresh. Better to stop for a 15 minute fuel/stretch break than get stranded for hours or longer.

    • @robvannNS
      @robvannNS 9 лет назад +4

+MotoErgoSum Agreed although my 5 gallon tank lets me go quite a bit further. My biggest fear is leaving the bike on the side of the road with all my gear..stuff I would dearly miss.

I once had the problem that i had enough gas for flat streets but on the incline the gas moved to the back of the tank and the engine stopped. I didnt anticipate this in my planning. Afterwards you know better.

Love it, all the stuff at the beginning can sometimes be what haunts you on a long day, you find yourself asking yourself repeatedly: "what an I doing?" Having not felt your fingers and toes since lunch, sun is setting, and there is nowhere to pitch for the night due to bear warnings, and your jaw is uncontrollably chattering... What you'd give at times like that to be in the comforting embrace of a loved one. Then the universe surprises you! And you remember why you're out there alone, frail to the elements, afraid of predators.

I have no idea how I have never seen your channel before! I love dual sport/adventure riding. I ride a 2012 V-Strom 650. It does everything I want to do. I don't mind light off road, but I am not into the single track and technical stuff with hill climbs and jumps. I mainly stick to sensible easy fire roads or ATV trails, and thats when I off road. I mainly like touring and seeing scenery, meeting new people, and just riding to ride. Now, I am going to watch more of your channel!

I can perfectly understand the situation. But sometimes our passion just could handle it all. You know it's like cooking food, without some spices on it, it will taste plain. So the spices for the adv trip is the rain, wind, snow, meet new people, run out of gas, flat tire, etc etc. But in the end we will never regret it. We can put a big smile on our face and say "we did it!" Thank you for sharing this beautiful and honest trip.

I have to disagree with you on one thing. It's not a little bit like life. It is life. Life has it's ups and downs and so does undertaking adventures. The plus side to the adventure taking is that you are on an ADVENTURE! It could suck completely, but when you look at the big picture you will always have an awesome story to tell regardless of how it turns out. This was a really great example of perspective and I hope people take something away from this video to the tune of - it's all about your attitude. Your attitude can make the rain awful, the seat caused butt craps, the man parts in your throat all the worst thing on the planet. On the other hand, the adventure, the pictures, the videos, the fresh air and beautiful views and ride can all over come that stuff and make for an awesome trip as long as you stay positive and focused on why you took the adventure in the first place. /book much love, CDS out :-)

I relate this a lot to going hunting in Colorado for a few days. Hiking for 20 miles through the mountains in freezing temps with a blistering sun index and a full load out of gear. Siting in the same spot for hours and hours on end spotting a valley. In some ways it strips you down to your core as a human in an awful way. You learn your weaknesses and strengths. But the little voice, just like you said, says “keep going to that next ridge.” And when you get home, regardless of your success harvesting, you are better for the experience. Hold your woman a little tighter, enjoy that fresh ground coffee a little more. It adds up. Great video man. Great perspective

HeroRR, every motorcyclist needs to do a solo trip. It offers peaceful self exploration, and so many more people approach and talk to solo bikers. No distractions make every moment more amazing, and the sites that much more memorable. Yes, sharing is most often better, but solo trips broaden the sole. I recommend at least one week, no reservations, full tank of gas, money in your pocket, gear and supplies packed, and point your bike toward the twistiest scenic most roads you can find.

For me, the alone is the best part. I ride when I want to ride, stop when I want to stop, and - for me this is key - talk to other random people you meet. It may partly be my personality, but people always seem to want to tell me their stories, and I always come away with a greatly enriched sense of the places I’ve been because of that.

Nice vid. I've felt your pain. I rode my 2008 KLR650 (685 kit) from where I live about 40 miles north of Seattle WA, south through Oregon, over a 7000 foot pass over to Nevada & to Las Vegas then north to Idaho, back through Eastern WA & back home. It was about 1600 miles in total. Lot's of offload riding, Brutal desert heat, snow in the passes, freezing nights camping, torrential rain for about 350 miles on one leg of the ride. But, I had an awesome time & met other amazing bikers & saw incredible sights. This was not my first long ride, so I knew what to expect. The best thing I brought along on my ride that gave me peace of mind & saved my ass? 3 liters of fuel in 2 canisters! Ride on!

Dead on! As a rider who prefers to travel on two wheels rain, shine, windy, snowy, I choose to ride. Each ride I gain experience of difficulties I learn to over come. As I master each difficulty it just becomes muscle memory. I ride for the challenges it presents to me so I can clime to the peak. As riders 99% of us have been stranded on the side of a road at some point and had to deal with such hardships that humble us and aides us as a community of riders. 2 days ago I had to push my tiger to a gas station 1/2 mile away so I can use a high curb that allowed me to roll this heavy #|!&\ on the truck. The challenge was met and accomplished. Love your work good, bad, and even the ugly

No matter what we are faced with, perspective can change the way we see our situation. The longest trip I ever took on a motorcycle. 1,2xx miles from Ft Hood Texas to Nashville, Ga on a '92 Honda 250 Nighthawk. But that was the BEST ride I ever had. At the end of the trip, the rear tire was SHOT and my chain was ruined. The worst ride was an attempt a few months earlier on that same bike to make a spontaneous trip home to see my wife. However weather slowed my progress and fatigued me so badly that i had to stop in a hotel in Louisianna and return to my post the next day and tired, beaten blob of a human who was devastated at not getting to see his wife. I have never experienced a ride in weather so brutal since.
I got my wife to accompany me on a day ride to a lunch gathering of riders last year. just shy of 200 miles round trip. It was hot. Very hot. We were beat at the end of it... but it was an enjoyable experience, and I got to share it with my wife, and she got to put some miles under her little GZ250. Never want to go without a bike again.

Your description of your trip reminds me of two long street rides that I went on. Both were absolutely horrible and at the same time absolutely fantastic. In one we kept getting to places late and not really getting to enjoy some of the sites and points of interest we went for. We got rained on during the ride back home and had to be back the following day. We rode in the rain for 18 hours straight, freezing once it got dark. In the other one we made some miscalculations and end up riding really late at night through swamps in Florida. We were dodging wild animals every few hundred feet. We got to our hotel after midnight and then my riding partner quit the next day but that night and the following morning I got to take some of the best pictures I ever took of my bike. I found a new vacation spot for the family and earlier in the trip I met and got to hang out with a fellow motovlogger. Both trips were plagued with problems but both were great when I look back on them. Hell the first trip is the main reason I stopped motovlogging regularly and have had such a hard time getting back into it but after some time to reflect it was one of the best adventures I've ever experienced.

This is an absolutely AWESOME video! I know I'm 5 years late and I'm not even a dual sport guy (yet), but I'm 48 years old and just starting to get off the pavement and into the dirt a little. But it's perspective like this that makes people stop and ask why they're doing, what they're doing!
My wife and I (of 26 years this March) had a 1984 750 Virago in 2005 and we lived in Saint George, Utah (which for those that don't know is about 2 hours away from Las Vegas). Well we decided to head down to LV for a day trip, so we jumped on the bike (I had installed a huge 1970's-ish sissy bar on the back for her comfort) and forgot to check the weather. Needless to say, about 45 minutes in we were bashed with a massive downpour! I was only doing about 45 mph because we were riding at 15 degrees roll to the left to counteract the crosswind! We made it to a gas station at just about exactly the half way point (somewhere in NV since the gas station had slot machines everywhere, LOL) and had a real discussion about what we were going to do?
Do we turn tail and ride home, get there tired, soaked and disappointed; or do we continue on and figure it out in LV? Neither of us are gamblers, so there wasn't that motivation, but I had heard that they were going to shut down the Star Trek Experience soon and I really wanted to see it and my beautiful bride (of 15 years at the time) had always wanted to go to the M&M world, so we trecked on!
As we pulled into town, on of the first places you get to out of Utah is a huge outlet mall. The sun had come out, it was a beautiful day and so we went to different stores in the mall and bought all new clothing from socks and underwear out! I ended up with a really nice Wilson's Leather motorcycle jacket (thanks to my wifey-pooh) that I still own today! We would have missed out on a WONDERFUL day together and one of the most MEMORABLE experiences of our marriage if we had seen the BAD and not the GOOD in the situation.
It's all about perspective. God Bless you for sharing yours with us and I hope that you get to ride with your children one day when they get big enough!

I had been exploring the backroads north of San Fransisco when I realized that I still needed to travel 450 miles South East, and do it all by midnight. It was fun, but I was happy to be in a hotel that night. According to my phone and the stick on thermometer attached to the bike it was 25 degrees when I checked in. When you said you got home and was sore and tired for a week after, it reminded me of my adventure ride in August.
We had gas issues. We left to get home too late and ended up riding, usually fun, very twisty tight roads in the dark. Parts of the trip were freezing, parts were deadly hot. I was exhausted for the next week when we got home.
But when I think back to the trip, the trip itself was absolutely fantastic. I dont even bring to mind the little bit of adversity we encountered. Riding the beautiful twisty roads, the scenery, all of it was just stunning. It was my favorite ride so far. We are doing it again this spring. I didn't get many pictures either because I was just in the moment the entire trip.
I am glad you switched it back to why it was all worth it, because it is.

I just rode 400 miles today. Was about 20 miles out from nearest town. Ran out of gas. My fuel gauge is completely off. I thought I had 100 miles left and ran out of gas. I feel you. Nobody stops to help. Maybe if you try to flag them down. Even then not sure. I never tried. I didn't have roadside assistance on my motorcycle. So I decided to call 911. I said to the dispatcher this is a non-emergency call. I'm a motorcycle rider. I ran out of gas. Can you please have local police help me. She said ok. Police will be on their way with gas. I waited maybe 30-40 minutes and the police arrived with gas. Law enforcement saved my day. Props to the police officer who happens to be a rider also. Times like this I'm so thankful I live in the great United States. 911 system came to the rescue for me. In case you get stranded in the future with no gas. Call 911 as one resort to get help. I believe local police is glad to help.

This was one of the earlier videos that, combined with a message from you led me to buy a KLR in February 2017. That in turn led to a V-strom650 that led to my current Super Tenere. The journey has now been well over 60,000 moto miles and I cherish every one of them. I am retired now and ride most days. This is your fault and I can't thank you enough. Be well Tyler, your work is so appreciated!

Just starting on dual sports, but not new to touring. I've felt both halves of this video to my core. Mindset let's you go one way or the other. Thanks so much.

Hey man. Just wanted to say I just moved to Colorado and am new to enduro riding (always ridden street bikes). Got my first dirt bike at 35yrs old lol. Stumbled across your channel. This is probably the 3rd video of yours I have watched. And I just have to say I think it is my favorite video that I have ever watched on RUclips. I have never subbed to a channel or liked a video but you are getting both of those from me lol. Love it man. Truly inspiring. Keep up the good work. And riding is spiritual.

I have a Yamaha XT660R, which I use to ride everywhere, as well as daily commute. Me and my best buddy did one "longer" daytrip of just over 400 miles in the mountains of a South African province of Mpumulanga. I thought that I would be dead tired at the end of the day, but not more tired than in a car. We also got stuck in pouring rain, and was forced to stop for over an hour at a gas station. After a long while, we decided to push on in the rain and darkness. Only got home at around 8pm. It was a 15 hr day in the saddle, but will do it again anyday. At some stage, want to do more touring like this. Enjoy your riding. Safe travels

Re: the running out of gas incident and the people picking you up, I love it when good luck comes on the tail of bad luck. That frequently happens when I'm on a trip.

I really love the way he made this video about prospective. It’s doesn’t matter that situation or troubles you run into it matters the way you look at it and choose to react and hold that memory. That is something that a lot of Society lacks and it’s not taught anymore. I really appreciate this video because it makes people think about Perspective and it’s all around a great video. Good job keep up the good work and I encourage everyone to do what they love no matter how many people tell them they are wrong or can’t do it

And...like any sport you love, there is always good and bad days. I'm a 6 handicap golfer who shot a 91 yesterday. Will that keep me away? "Forgeta-about-it." Thanks Tyler for your perspective, and the fun rides we share.

Val Averett My man, 91 is pretty good in my book! Heck, a good day for me is to end with the same amount of golf balls as I start with! ;)

"The bug splat or the sunset? It's all about what you choose to sea"
    Such wise words :-)
I hope, I will remember this in any part of my life. Thumbs up!

Sounds like a great adventure. The bad weather and discomfort is all a part of it.
Nice to see the photo's the Moab area. I was there 3 years ago and must get back.
Thanks for both videos about your ride.

In the beginning of the video when you were talking about the negatives, I wasn't really a fan of yours, but then you talked about perspective and how the positives outweigh the negatives. And I fell in love. For real though, subbed lol.

+goldguy421 Yeah a lot of people don't get past the part where I'm a whiny little wuss, so they leave the video hating my guts :) Glad you stuck around, though! It's all about perspective!

I just came across this video. And it is ABSOLUTELY ALL TRUE. This has got to be the best youtube video I've ever seen. Makes me enjoy my Klr and my XR even more. Thanks for this

Very well said, Sir! Anyone who has done a bit of touring, whether a short day-trip or more elaborate multi day one, has had many "issues" to contend with, it's all part of the journey. Focusing on the positive, and why you tour is so important. Remembering these little bumps as you travel, they are what make the stories you tell about the trip interesting, or even funny as you look back on them. I don't tour enough, but the reason I know that to be the case, is remembering the past tours, the fun, the adventure and yes sometimes even the troubles, as these are what make me a better fellow rider. Ok gotta go, time to plan another.... :-)
