I was in Afghanistan for a year and a half in 2012. I ALWAYS loved eating with the Afghan people and the Qabuli Pulao was the BEST! I have never been able to duplicate it - especially the raisins. Wht won't mine plump?! Yes, I tried this recipe and it was very delicious. Like she said, ALL recipes are different, but this was good. Also, don't wait for your rice water to reboil after putting in the rice. Oh, and make all 3 cups of rice. I tried to "not make too much", but my meat to rice proportions were off. I overcooked mine at 4 min boiling. Thank you, Miss. Miriam!❤
As an Afghan being away from home for more than three decades, it feels so good to see Afghan recipes on youtube. I would love to see a Shola recipe here. I’ve tried many but didn’t quite get the same taste that I get when I was a child. Thanks for all the awesome recipes.
I love that you're so open minded and not so precious about food but still showing your passion all the same. Such a breath of fresh air after watching Italian food nazis on RUclips shaming me before I even started cooking lol.
I was blessed to have a colleague share this dish, and then taught me how to make, it disappears in my home my family can't get enough...its SO wonderful😊😊😊😊...its too bad that use every pot in my house to make it 😅😅
wow that was great receipe...man, i am hungry now but i am fasting... I'll try this receipe for iftaar today INSHA ALLAH...Huge fan of Kabuli Pulao...First time I've had the honor of having this dish in Toronto city, in an Afghani restuarant almost 27 years ago... Miriam Jee thank you so much for making it so simple...ALLAH BLESS YOU...
I regret the day I discovered Kaabli Pulao - I’ve been craving it constantly and go to a local Afghan restaurant that makes it as I’m useless in the kitchen. Stunning dish.
JazzakAllah for that detailed program. I was going to make it today & would have chosen any video to learn to cook it but your video not only was it showed step by step, it also demonstrated it in English which was easy to understand. Thank you.❤️
I am beginning a cooking journey by attempting every country’s national dish and couldn’t be happier to start with this. Looking forward to eating it!! Great video: :)
@@AfghanCooks One of my new coworkers has resettled in Montana from Afghanistan and I was curious about the cuisine. He and his wife have 5 children and I was hoping to help purchase some groceries for them. ☺️
I am an Iraqi, and I tried Kabuli at an Afganian Restaurant in Garmish, Germany, last week. I loved it. I will do this this weekend. Thank you for the recipe.
Hello, Miriam! I just made your Qabili Palaw and it was a huge success! Thanks to you! I've never tasted such delicious rice and the lamb was perfect. There is one problem in your recipe that I thought I should point out. Step 7 is about making the sugar solution made to color the rice. You have us dissolving sugar in hot oil and then adding water to the mixture. This is very dangerous (we have a saying "oil and water don't mix")! I caused a great fizzling and spattering. I was lucky to get out of the way before getting severely burned. It could also have started a fire on the stove and as it was, there was a lot of spilled sugar solution all over it. I think the directions need to be revised to have the person take the hot solution off of the stove and cool it to room temperature before adding the water. By the way, I also made Shirpera and had an issue I'd love your feedback on. I could only find non-fat powdered milk and that might be the problem. What happened was that as soon as I started adding the milk powder to the warm sugar solution, the solution started to crystallize. The only way I could get the powder mixed in was to add some very hot water, a little at a time. I finally got all of it mixed in but the eventual texture was grainy and I suspect it was supposed to be smooth. On the other hand, it tasted fanstastic (even though I reduced the sugar by 1 1/2 c.). I look forward to learning more from you!
I am literally making this today following this exact recipe, hope it works out, the video is great it’s so clear and makes it easy for anyone to follow 🙋🏼♀️
Thanks to you ive cooked kabuli pilau again. Overjoyed. Love the way you explain it from A to Z. I am one of those who thought you cant make pulao unless youve been taught by your mum 😂😂 Love from Australia.
Spoke with my friend tonight🥰from Afghanistan and the family was eating this so I looked it up on the internet and found your YT page. I Must try it looks so delicious. I love food 😋
Giving this a t ry for the 1st time at home. My co-workers are from Afghanistan and we ate this dish and I HAVE to know how to make it. ❤ I expect to fail the first time, but this recipe has a lot of variables so timing is probably everything. Excited! The rice being just right is my biggest concern, but I have a LOT of rice and time to learn the nuances. 😊
I love Afghan food and I'm glad to have found your channel. Your Kabuli pilau recipe is so easy to follow as compared to other recipes. Thank you Mirriam!
Wow Mirriam I felt in love with your youtube channel. I love cooking exotic food. Yesterday I prepared this recipe and invited a friend who also loves exotic dishes. Here in Argentina is difficult to find black cardamom, a friend who came from USA brought it to me. Wow your recipe is amazing. It´s true that using sesame oil and black cardamom makes the difference. I also tried your afghan yogurt. Your videos and explanation are very detailed. I love that secrets that you tell in every recipe. Thank you for being so generous. I would like to buy your cookbook. How can I get it? Is there any kindle version? PS: The sound of thunders during the making of the video gave a nice dramatism! Thank you again!
Interesting version of this dish. Spent 2 yrs in Afghanistan and thumbs up to the food of your country especially in Mazar-i-Sharif! I use to eat at the Silk Road restaurant often and simply fell in love with the food and people. I must say that the food in Helmam Province was considered more of a peasant food with goat and rice but still tasty although less special in preparation. Thanks for the videos!
Thanks for this recipe. I tried it at an Afghan refugee run place in Delhi and fell in love with it. I am gonna continue to eat it at the restaurant, as long as I am in delhi but once I move to a place without afghans around, will love to make it (saving this video in one of my private playlists)
Kabuli pulaw? Looks very similar to Uzbek pulaw... here in Moscow it's very popular dish... on my way home, I always pass by "Bukhara Plov Center" that operates 24/7, and the shop is always packed - both with Uzbeks and Russians. The tasty food unites...
Thank you for all your recipes. Its nice filling our house with scents of Afghan food. There are no Afghan restaurants near me and I craaaave the food. My family lives far from me so you've helped me satisfy my cravings until I can go and see them ❤
I will be making this with venison shanks, in a rondeau. I'm going to amalgamate a few recipes, but I'll be leaning toward yours. The sesame oil for sure. By the way, you are a delightful presenter
This dish reminds me of the Bedouin Madlouba, except for the carrots and raisins, which I seen in Gazan rice dishes. It is sort of a fusion of the two. Looks wonderful, can't wait to try to make this one!
Amazing! I love this dish, tried it multiple times at a local restaurant, tried to make it by myself and still looking for some extra tips. Great presentation. P.S. I love to make it in my cast iron instead of pressure cooker.
Phenomenal tutorial with amazing results. The last time I ate amazing pulao was when I visited the beautiful country of Afghanistan. I've been craving it for a long time, and finally found this recipe and felt inspired. I did the recipe, but in place of lamb, I used goat, and it was so delicious, easy, and authentic. Thank you!
You CAN do whatever you’d like but the idea is the meat is yakhni which means boiled/braised and the liquid is needed for the flavor in the rice. But give it a shot and let me know how it turns out!
Looks delicious! We have a similar dish in southeastern Iran called "goboli" گبولی which is prepared in a similar way, but we use potatoes instead of carrots plus chickpeas (optional) and different spices.
My wife and I were talking about the raisins in Qabuli Pallow a few days ago, while we were eating a salad that we'd thrown some sweetened dried cranberries into. We said that if cranberries grew in Afghanistan, they'd probably be used in Qabuli Pallow! Authenticity's a funny thing, no doubt!
Glad to find char masala recipe here. I will try to find black cardamoms at Indian grocery store. But if char nasala is similar to chat masala sold at Indianshop, maybe I"ll buy it.
LOL I have an Alexa also. When you said to your Alexa to set a timer for 4 minutes, my Alexa responded and said setting a timer for 4 minutes. That was just hilarious.🤣🤣🤣🤣 I just had to add again because my Alexa timer set a time for 25 minutes. LOL Because you said it.
