The food, is all I’d go on a cruise for. I don’t like alcohol, but I love vegetables, and fruits, and from the looks of it, there’s plenty of that on a cruise ship.
An polar cruise I did, there were 3 groups of crew, seaman who ran the ship, hotel who looked after restaurant, cabins and services, and expedition who looked off ship activities & lectures etc
Hi sean , I was watching your videos before i started working on the cruise ship ,was so helpful and after i got experience on board i really understand well !! Crew memeber on entertainment postion thanks a lot and hope to see you again in RUclips. Keep going you did well 👍👏
Michelangelo Flores go over to Jordan f martin’s channel as well. I recently spoke with him more about the broadcasting position. Congratulation on the job!
@@CoffeeWithSean Thanks! Physical and yellow fever inoculation on 10-Feb, so I am prepping, based on your recommendations. Did you ever get ill during a contract? Any sickness that ran through the crew, or did good hygiene keep sickness at bay? Any pics of crew quarters?
I'm currently in process to be approved as Technical stage staff at RCI (my first employment). Now, what are my options regarding the food? Am I only limited to crew mess? And, as an active person, can I buy protein rich products/food on board?
Luka Reeson I assume it would be the same as NCL. Stage crew were allowed in the public buffet. So you can eat in the crew mess and most likely in the passenger areas too. And yes; you will be able to go to the different restaurants onboard like the steakhouses and purchase dinners as well. Good luck!
Hey Sean bro! This is a VERY insightful video ((all of your videos are)). I didn't quite catch what cruise line you worked for. Can you spell it out for me?
I'm sorry but crew members for not have any serious health conditions, every single crew member undergoes a thorough medical examination. What you could of mentioned was someone with allergies to specific foods or a celiac would be good examples of a health related condition that they may have issue with the on board food. As a chef on board cruise liners, I can tell you now that the food varies from ship to ship, and the crew galley is staffed with a full team of professional chefs that cook just for the crew, no costs are cut and the food is generally very good, these guys work very very hard producing over 5000 meals per day on most large cruise liners. If someone has an allergy, they only need to talk to the manager I the crew mess who will provide an allergen sheet with info on all of the menu items. Also if you have a special request you can put it in the day before and the duty manager will make sure you get it. Again depends on cruise lines, this is an example of P&O Cruises.
Brittnee-Jade I’m sure that some passengers who board also can have gluten. So I’m sure they have food that is gluten free. But you’ll be in the vast minority. So you would Have to get with the executive chef and make sure you know where that food is for you. But it would likely be limiting.
My wife’s niece has similar issues , they stay in more exclusive cabin suites and they have a small private dining area. Her food was prepared in its own area in galley and no cross contamination occurred during cruise. It can be done if you spend a lot of money.
@@ApeJayy I was a broadcast technician. Essentially the ship videographer. I worked everyday man. 7 days a week. A little bit in the mornings but mostly in the evenings
I worked on Princess cruises and I am not a fussy eater in anyway but I just couldn't eat in the crew mess, it was the smell and I don't mean that in a disrespectful way. There was just something in the air. Lucky I could eat in at the upper deck buffets.
Sean Price THANKS for the speedy reply. I'm thinking about applying just for the experience. Been on one cruise as a passenger but I am looking to be one of the Enrichment Counselors or become a Youth Counselor. I think my experience as an educator would transfer well. Besides, the travel aspects are appealing.
How do you deal with storms or rough seas on cruise ships? Are there special protocols for crew members during storms? Do you have any stories about times when you encountered rough seas?
Lessie Hall Realistically these ships are so big you really don’t feel the motions that much. But there are sometimes tougher seas. Fortunately, I never was in a storm or anything. The thing is, the navigation officers on the Bridge are always watching weather forecasts and they are always tweaking the ships path to make the cruise as calm as possible. This is because of the passengers. I would assume a cargo ship may not care as much about comfort because there are no guests. And it the weather is super bad the ship may just stay in port. So I never really experience very rough seas.
As someone going into entertainment for a ship in a month, your brutal honest opinion is really helpful! Question (and I know it's different on each brand): was the buffet free or did it cost extra for crew?
Hello coffee with Sean. Thanks a lot for your videos. I am a vegan and about to sign a contract with N CL to work as a lounge technician ( it would we working with sound and musicians). Do you know if I would have options as a vegan? Salads, rice, beans, fruit, cereal, HEALTHY FOOD??? Thanks a lot ! I really appreciate your videos 🙏🏻♥️
Coffee With Sean Do you know if as a Lounge technician( it’s entertainment department, like the audio technician) I would be allowed to eat at the guests buffet like you? there are more options, right? It is for free, is it? Thank
Great videos Sean! 1sub more, i found them really interesting because you go deep in to the topics and explain them just as if i were sit in a cafe chatting with you. i'm doing my research because i'm about to start a contract on Thomson cruises (now Marella), and my job is gonna be in the crew mess. I have experience on IT Help Desk and i know the crew mess its not gonna be the ideal job nor the easiest job, but the situation in my country (Honduras, Central America) isn't exactly rainbows and flowers. anyway, thanks for all the knowledge you share, Good luck and keep the good job!
Hello my friend i want ask is it free food or i need to pay for food? And another question but its not on the same topic what about the cell phone or used internet or apps like Facebook and whats app.. Is there a way to use it or not allow... And if i want to quit befor my contract finich what the process?
sameer ra3d the food is free. There is no cell service on board. But you can pay for phone minutes and internet minutes. Its expensive though. If you quit kid contract you have to pay for your own flights home. But the process is the same as on land. You just tell you managers and HR you want to quit. And they will end the contract.
Liliani Ruiz unfortunately I don’t know much about guests service specific positions. But if you reach out to Jordan F Martin on his channel; he probably has a contact he can reach out for you to get some info
Ben Lorenowicz as a blanket statement, I tell people if you have a specific diet, ships will be difficult. Regardless of that diet. Ships is all about taking what you have, doing what you gotta do. But, you can make it work if you are dedicated. Just go into it with the right mindset “it’s going to be hard to maintain my specific diet because I am on a ship and not at home.” You can def find some meats cooked in oil for the fats. Some cheeses but the cheeses are not just out there in the open. it would Be in stuff like pasta. It’s really really hard to go low/no carb on ships. No nuts. At least none that you want for keto. No coconut oil. No butter to really add yourself. Like I said, you’re not at home, you on a ship where others cook for you. Hit the gym more often and do what you gotta do. But I don’t recommend getting on a ship if you can’t deviate from a diet. Good luck!
The68VeeDub Some crew members are allowed to eat in the buffets. Some crew are not. With each position and department comes different levels of privilege.
Sean Price O ok at first it didn't make sense why crew wouldn't eat passenger food, but now it does. Because the passengers cruise fare pays for that food. I do have another question though in terms of spa workers what are there hours like since they are contracted with a seperate agency because I'm wanting to do massage on the ships and was wondering if they get breaks.
The68VeeDub On myships The spa crew worked the most it seemed. For the most part they were working between 12 and 14 hours each day. And they only were off for one hour at lunch and one hour at dinner. The other time off they got for getting off the ship in port and stuff was “earned” based on their sales and reaching commission goals. It looked rough in my opinion. The spa company on my ships was Steiner.
Yeah that's who I was looking at applying with. I also was planning to save money like you did. So that I can get out of student debt. So I'll definitely do some more research.
Did the whole entertainment department have the perk of eating at the guest's restaurant? I'm joining as an entertainment admin. Would love to be able to eat at the guest's buffet. I'm not picky, but like you said, I think there's more healthy options.
I'm a Muslim maybe wear a shirt that doesn’t make him look like ‘that guy from the Tide commercial.? Lol. Every T-shirt he has worn has that stretched out collar. And the loud swallowing is rather cringeworthy. But interesting convos though. It would be nice to see ‘on board’ vids. Cause at this point, he is just a guy drink coffee and talking. But why would a vegan not be able to find a decent salad on a crew menu? Seems rather suspect given the great number of vegans in society these days.
gaurang kamat you could most like do any job in Guest Services. Your experience would put you at the top of the list. But your English has to be quite good
Come on guys food is just to sustain our bodies. There's no need to be picky about what food you eat except if you're a vegetarian like me then you just do not eat non veg. I do eat eggs though!
Never been on a cruise , never worked on one either but watched this entire series , I think it's the voice !
