So would neuro-plasticity, (the inherent repair / adaption / learning ability of brain tissue), evolve to utilise the implant more efficiently over time? Interesting stuff. Wetware is here.
I would expect the brain to adapt to the device. As you practice using the device, the brain should "strengthen" its connections to it. It would probably help a lot to get it when you're very young.
@Dave D Great question 🤔 I think our brains have already evolved to use neuro-plasticity for learning via our smartphones, Internet and AI engines. And this same process applied to learning neurobiology has a therapeutic effect on the brain, which is creating an efficient "learning loop".

I simply orient myself to the many previous technologies. How long these have taken from the first tests and laboratory samples to maturity. That tells me that we need about 40 to 60 years. Then you can buy divices from Neuralink, and more likely from Apple.
40 to 60 years is an over estimate bro. The first iPhone took 5 years to develop. Most medical equipment takes longer only due to little funding. With neuralink having a solid base understand of how the brain works, with a clear path forward in terms of function, and with Elon Musk funding it… 1 year until human trials isn’t a stretch. Remember, Elon founded the company in. 2016. That is 6.5 years from start to human trials.

Wouldn't mind getting push notifications right to my cranium... so long as there is a do not disturb mode when I want to sleep. Imagine that. Turn-by-turn navigation straight to your head. Or better yet, drive your car by just sitting inside it. Work on your spreadsheets while curled up in bed. Have a conversation with anyone without talking, so you can take calls while holding your 1 year old who is fussy and you are trying to get them to sleep. Of course, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Then there's the real breakthroughs like bridging spinalcord breaks, making the blind see and the deaf hear and, well, its mind-blowing where this can all go.
How does one contact Neuralink to become a test subject? I've lost the ability to move my foot up, via my ankle, seemingly due to an infection in my spine, I got while having surgery to fix my spine. Seems like a connection in my spinal cord was disconnected. I'm wondering if this, seemingly simple, problem could be fixed with this technology.
I'm excited for the medical benefits this could provide, but not happy that a lot of humans may have other advantages over people who choose to not have it.
"choose" being the key word. Its like arm wrestlers getting mad because sprinters sprint and then wanting to make a sprinter arm wrestle to prove something.
3:00 When reading a quote you really shouldn't change any of the words in the quote otherwise it is no longer a direct quote. *"I don't want to raise hopes unreasonably, but I'm increasingly convinced that this COULD be done"* Yes, I get that in this case "can" is a reasonable substitute for "could" but it still changes the level of emphasis in the original quote. Again, I repeat, you should not change words in a direct quote.
I'm curious if it could be used to treat chronic pain - if pain is produced in the brain as a 'warning' to us, then presumably we could use neuralink to prevent the nasty feeling of pain, and replace it with a friendly 'by the way, this part of your body needs checking by a doctor' or even better, telling us what the issue is specifically, eliminating the need for physical pain. Perhaps we could control it enough to tune our pain receptors within safe levels? That would be truly amazing.
If you make pain feel good or neutral, you will reduce the efficiency of detecting damage extremely. You won't react as fast as you would with a pain that feels bad.
That would be dangerous. Also pain is more a psychological thing than nerves being stimulated. Without thoughts to analyze the pain it’s just a sensation. Your brain labels it as good or bad.
@Jordan Belfort really? So you predicting a few things gives you the authority to question someone else’s beliefs in a project, have you ever heard of a coincidence….

I believe he said this will replace the phone, so it will be connected at some point. He will build an rotating invincible encryption system. Perhaps people will stop drinking and consuming drugs if they can tune into a program that lets them feel good without the addiction factors ?
Great video! Hard to overstate the importance of this technology. I have severe lower back pain due to severe arthritis and disintegrated L5 disk. Congress took my hydrocodone away and so I suffer thanks to them. Maybe Neurolink can one day short circuit that pain signal.
This would so good and supeg simple. Lowerback pain is so stupid it doesnt affect the strenght or movement only the pain does. When we take that away boom NEW FUCKING BACK!!!
Have you met with a pain management doctor. My dad had lower back pain and they used some technique to kill some pain nerves. Something like an epidural, but permanent. I'm sorry, I don't know all the details.

This will definitely be the next smartphone in terms of interactive technology. I can just imagine the extensive sensory stimuli-making living without it near impossible, like how it’s near impossible to separate people from their smart devices.
bridging the gap between neurons with an electrode sounds realistic until you realise it is a whole zone of the brain with millions of gaps that have to be "bridged". So if you tried doing something like this you would have a block of iron inside your head (not just some wires)

Fixing quadriplegia is not just about sending muscle movement signals to nerves near the limbs, it is also about receiving feedback from the limbs. The feedback is a whole order of magnitude more difficult to deal with. This is extremely complex. Walking is extremely complex. Getting to safe and reliable bipedal locomotion using this technology will take at least 20 years and even then it will be clunky, stiff and unnatural movement. Stem cell technology on them other hand will advance (and is advancing) way faster than this and will achieve the same goal within 10 years with completely natural movement. I love what Neuralink are doing, don't get me wrong, but on the topic of spinal chord injury, biomedical injury repair will always be better than injury bi-pass technology.
IMO input for BCI will never be a thing because once input becomes a thing, companies could take advantage by trying to blast ads at you from inside. Imagine how disastrous that would be. Imagine getting a virus on your BCI and your legs shut off. Input meaning the BCI sends signals to your brain will almost never be a thing. Too many issues. Ethical as well. Would it be legal for the police to shut your legs off if you’re running away from them? Would it be legal for them to deactivate your arms if you have a weapon? What line do we draw? We can’t even draw the line on the internet. The old senators don’t even understand the internet enough to make proper laws. Watch the Mark Zuckerburg videos. Do you think they’ll have the ability to regulate this? HIGHLY DOUBT IT
Excellent review!! I'm hopeful that between Neuralink and my Tesla, our ability to travel and stay mobile in our advanced ages will be unimpaired. The hope for those suffering from Parkinson's disease and severe spinal cord injuries (thinking of veterans now) is especially encouraging!!
With the advancement of the Neuralink with a sprinkle of fantasy it would be interesting if dreaming would alter do to the enhanced state of your mind. If telepathy is in the table then maybe unlocking more of human brain would lead to even crazier discoveries.

I can remember a time before Smartphones I was sitting in the train with my little Pocket PC. People stared at me as if was a Alien. Nowadays i enter a Train and everyone is staring at their little Pocket PC but now we call them Smartphone.
Give the people time. Not everyone is an early adopter.

Yeah, we need to destroy humanity and just all become machines. You believe there's any benefits to this when actually it will just be used as a tool to control the thoughts and actions of the population. FFS get a clue.
What I want is an on off switch on my hearing, I have complex PTSD and am both in the giftedness and autism spectrum, all 3 have effects on my hearing capacity (making it quite uncomfortable when for example an neighbour plays music all night) if I could just turn it off to sleep that would be the dream.
@Dave D Great question 🤔
I think our brains have already evolved to use neuro-plasticity for learning via our smartphones, Internet and AI engines. And this same process applied to learning neurobiology has a therapeutic effect on the brain, which is creating an efficient "learning loop".
@@Muuip yup: everything is AR since we create a visual of actual tools in our mind and overlay the possibilities of their implementation in the ‘augmented reality’ our brains create.

I simply orient myself to the many previous technologies.
How long these have taken from the first tests and
laboratory samples to maturity.
That tells me that we need about 40 to 60 years.
Then you can buy divices from Neuralink, and more
likely from Apple.
Also considering your entire watch history consists of historic videos, you seem skewed in perspective. Anything developed beyond 30 years ago doesn’t exactly count in my opinion.

Those "scam likely" calls right to your head and you think the word "click" and it declined the call for you
How does one contact Neuralink to become a test subject? I've lost the ability to move my foot up, via my ankle, seemingly due to an infection in my spine, I got while having surgery to fix my spine. Seems like a connection in my spinal cord was disconnected. I'm wondering if this, seemingly simple, problem could be fixed with this technology.

@@makrush5264 you are seriously in need of a neuralink.😂😂😂
Absolutely. This tech is exactly for that
I hope that you can get in on it. If not, maybe youll get it in the future!
I wish you the best.
I'm looking forward to Neuralink's 500,000 unit international recall...
I'm excited for the medical benefits this could provide, but not happy that a lot of humans may have other advantages over people who choose to not have it.
"choose" being the key word. Its like arm wrestlers getting mad because sprinters sprint and then wanting to make a sprinter arm wrestle to prove something.

When reading a quote you really shouldn't change any of the words in the quote otherwise it is no longer a direct quote.
*"I don't want to raise hopes unreasonably, but I'm increasingly convinced that this COULD be done"*
Yes, I get that in this case "can" is a reasonable substitute for "could" but it still changes the level of emphasis in the original quote.

Actually that would be awesome
No but it can cause a whole bunch of other shit
If you make pain feel good or neutral, you will reduce the efficiency of detecting damage extremely.
You won't react as fast as you would with a pain that feels bad.
Based on the dead monkeys I think that’s not coming true.
That would be dangerous. Also pain is more a psychological thing than nerves being stimulated. Without thoughts to analyze the pain it’s just a sensation. Your brain labels it as good or bad.
This was in the book Feed

My favorite book is Feed by M.T. Anderson. As long as these devices do not connect to the internet or connect in a decentralized way (you know to avoid hacking at all cost), then what happens in the book shouldn't happen to the world in the future.
I believe he said this will replace the phone, so it will be connected at some point.
He will build an rotating invincible encryption system.
Perhaps people will stop drinking and consuming drugs if they can tune into a program that lets them feel good without the addiction factors ?
If this goes all good, we'll probably the first to see generation 1 Netrunners lmao
@@stevechance150 yup. apparently my insurance was so great that he could make more money by doing a temporary injection instead of frying the nerves!

bridging the gap between neurons with an electrode sounds realistic until you realise it is a whole zone of the brain with millions of gaps that have to be "bridged". So if you tried doing something like this you would have a block of iron inside your head (not just some wires)
No, you can already get some global effects when stimulating the brain with electrical signals.

HIGHLY DOUBT IT
Thank you for this great video. Things indeed are going to get weirder
