- The Kaiviti Silktails, a rugby league team from Fiji, have thanked hotel staff after their mandatory quarantine by singing from their balconies. The squad has relocated to Sydney to play in the Ron Massey Cup competition that sits two levels below the NRL. The Silktails made their competition debut last year, winning their opening game before the season was called off due to Covid-19 after one round. The singing follows the tradition of the men's national team, Fiji Bati, who sing a pre-match hymn before international fixtures

Imagine you're a Pacific nations rugby league team who has just done your people's really mean war dance and your opponents then sing a beautiful hymn to melt your hearts that takes you away to another place.
As a proud Australian, I am just in awe of that performance. If watching that did not make the hair stand up on the back of your neck, then you are already dead. 🇦🇺 💙🇫🇯
Worked over in Fiji, the people are so nice. Much respect
How wonderful is this gracious gesture. Thank you for showing the world that paying respect to others does not take much time or effort. Bless you all
Beautiful 💜
That’s just amazing. Well done Fiji 🇫🇯 👌👍
The human spirit can never be broken
Understood nothing but it sounded lovely. Incidently as a Scot who lives abroad - that statement - is said to me regularly when talking normally.
Ian the Scots dragoons guards and highlanders are full of Fijians that do this all the time.Stay safe bud 🙏🏾💯👌🏾
Lol

Bula bula everyone!
This is beautiful 😍
que gente linda❤
Love my Polynesian brothers! 🤓💚💙
Respectfully, and not wanting to demean your lovely sentiment, iTaukei people are Melanesian. In saying that Lauans (Eastern Fiji) do have a lot of connections to the Kingdom of Tonga.
@@stevespain6445 Do you know the meaning of Polynesia???
Fijians are both Poly & Mela
@@stevespain6445 Fijian language and culture is predominantly Polynesian despite Melanesian appearance, heck we don't even have a "Big Man" anyway and are right on the boundary of both regions.
@@Samizouza Au kailoma. Au vasu turaga na Namosi. Forgive me, au vosa vaka viti lailai. Vinaka for the clarification, I am very aware of the complexities of iTaukei identity, and it deserves a longer conversation than we can give hear. My great-great-great grandfather was one of the last group of Big Men of Fiji, one of his sons being the first Tui Namosi, the Brits layering over the Tongan system onto the older Kai Viti ways. I suppose there's still a bit of that in Kadavu, where one of my great-great grandmothers is from. At least that is what some older Kai Kadavu tell me. But genetically, a lot of iTaukei would be Melanesian, aside from the Lauans. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I understood that outside of Lau, the intermarrying with Tongans was largely amongst the noble families, not amongst common iTaukei folk? Peace and appreciation for taking the time to converse.
Beautiful Vinaka Fella’z
Vinaka Fiji!
Totoka vakaoti na sere🎉🎉

This is way better than any haka. Well played boys
There's nothing wrong with a Haka
...absolutely nothing wrong with the haka
The various haka are beautiful, as are the many meke of Fiji. The pacific Islands contain many beautiful cultural expressions all of which are worthy of praise and admiration.
Vinaka na qaravi tavi boys!
