It amazes me that there are people that still haven't started prepping for emergency situations!!
Unfortunately, I know many that don't think anything is wrong. They hv nothing put up for emergency. They eat out at pretty much every meal.
we just had a power outage (4 days) june 17th to june 21, (way to bring in summer) anyways i had food prepped and didn't have to go to the store (other then for pepsi) have to have it. people around us went shopping (yep grocery stores without power) so i was eating/cooking/relaxing while i had people come over asking it they could have some of my food. nope didn't have enough for me and them i said. (they were mad) okay to me. so they had to go to areas with power (roughly 20 miles out) again mad. with a power outage only, what would have it been with a tornado, really deep six. everyone running around trying to buy and not prepped. my sub area has around 200 people (community??) i'd say 16 had preps. the rest were clueless. (some didn't even have flash lights) don't even mention head lamps. clueless...da what are those??? good test for me...had food/water/stove/fuel made it like a camp out only in the garage (so no one saw me cooking.) ah people the head is there the brain is no where to be found. i bet now that the power is on, no one is buying anything for the "next" time.
I also am amazed that so many people think things are just fine.
Same thing in my neighborhood too, I have neighbors that are still sound asleep.
@stuartaminion511 I was shocked when we had a hurricane hit at how many neighbors didn't even have batteries !
My Momma was a very savvy grocery shopper. As the baby of the family I went shopping with her. She’d give me the coupons she’d clip from the ads, one at a time, and I’d go collect the items. Without even realizing it I learned to keep a long term pantry, shop the loss leaders and get the most for our grocery dollars. I will be forever grateful for all the lessons she taught me. Thanks, Mom!❤️🇺🇸
That's a nice memory. Good times. I would go to the grocery store, with my Mother. I felt so grown up.
@@lorna865 I lost my Mom a few years ago, I sure miss her.
@@susans9491 I miss mine every day. July 17, 2019 she left us. My bday is the day after.
@@lorna865 That’s sad, I’m sorry. My Mom passed away July 15th, 34 years to the day after my Dad passed away.
@@susans9491 My condolences as well. Wow, diff yr, but close to same day of July.
I know people that are still wishing on unicorns. They just go to the store because that's where their food comes from. 🤯 Keep stocking 👍
Went garage saling today. Got my daughter a Gladstone griddle. It can use small and large propane tanks. They have a large propane grill. One more step to help them get prepared. I do what I can to help them as they have 3 boys and inflation is killing them.
Hormel completes, my mainstay for one year storage and no refrigeration required, plus you can take a completes and mix with rice, beans, instant potatoes or noodles and you have a bigger satisfying serving. My decades of prepping for myself and articles written for others….I stressed three types of food preps broken down by a timeline, one year, three year, and 10 year plus. This allows you flexibility and just like AG has detailed variations in you eating planes……keep on preparing 👍🏻
Good Morning AG.... Most people I know (including family members) won't stock up for hard times. They usually come up with excuses. So, when occasions roll around for gift giving...yup, I get them prepping supplies. Food is always on the list.
Good for you! Our boys are just barely out of the house, and even though they grew up with the prepared mindset, I’ll bet their cupboards are bare. They prioritize the latest smartphone, high priced internet for online gaming, certain brands of clothing and going out for meals. I’m so very disappointed. This year I think Santa will be giving food and maybe grocery store gift cards! Maybe in time they’ll wise up, jury is still out.
Great idea
I started to add the Augeston farm containers to my supply...even if its just one can a month and ones I know that I will use beginning with the Vegetable Soup first due to so many vegetables and the reviews on how good it tastes and used in many ways other than just soup.
When I give someone a gift it's not junk it's canned food. That is what they got for Christmas this last year and will be the same thing this year or birthday.
God bless 🙏 you and yours 😊❤
I know your heart is in the right place, but if anyone gives me home canned foods I thank them graciously and discard it. You might can
'by the book", but there are too many rebel canners who do it like grandma did and "no one ever died". Better to give commercially prepared items where canning procedures have to be followed according to the law.
@@melissakalloway1916 You can save the jar!
@@melissakalloway1916I'm ashamed to say, I do the same. If it was my immediate family, I know they always canned right. But outside of that circle I don't know that they cleaned the produce, or used a sterile surface, or didn't cross contaminate with meats or used the right temp for their elevation for the right duration. So many variables.
After water, my next step was getting 2 of something every time I used one.
I learned from Alaska Granny about safe ways to store dry goods.
Just remember, even if the going is slow, it's still forward movement!
I had leftover chicken in leftover Near East brand chicken couscous for lunch today. It's good cold. Pop Tarts are excellent any time of day. I would add to the little cooking foods Jiffy Pop Popcorn. You can make it on a camp stove, butane burner, electric burner or gas stove. I would add it to easy foods for water emergencies since you can recycle the "pan" and eat out of it.
Here's my 3 day 72 hour no cook food picks. 3 granola bars, 3 cans espresso or iced tea, 3 lunch on the run boxes, 3 jerky packets or sticks (Carne Seca pouches it's spicy) 3 small cans corn, 3 cans beans or cheese sauce (think Lays) 3 smallish bags of tortilla chips (garden of eatin') or potato chips, 3 gallons of water.
For pets 6 small cans of their food or 6 small containers. Depending on the size of your pet 3 smallish bottles or gallons water. Litter/poop bags, vaccination records, combs/brushes, tweezers (for ticks) flea collar, treats, catnip or dog bones, a dirty towel or t shirt which smells like you in their carrier, harness/collar and leash.
When we started prepping...around 2004 it wasnt "prepping" per se. We had just been through cat 5 hurricane Charlie, and 3 more that followed within the next three weeks. Until then it was always hurricane season ..you knew what you needed and prepared. I STILL cringe at the term prepper. But we learned a lot that year, and actually made it through the month quite comfortably. continued on a long term plan , but maybe making sure we had a few months worth. In 2016, afraid of the other party winning we went in full on. We added things we wouldnt have "just" for hurricane season. Added ducks and chickens and tripled our already decent garden to start feeding the animals and can items also. No one ever has what they feel is enough..no one starts with a huge pantry..but you have to start somewhere. Dont blame your income (you can spent $5 a week to start..) or your age..we are in our mid 60s.
this is the kind of advice I gave to some friends a few years ago who were wanting to start prepping. I also love to have a variety of seasonings and condiments as part of my food storage in order to change up flavors....like going curry one time and Asian another time
The plan is to start with getting a month of food on hand, then build up from there. When are you going to make a pepper cook book?
As always, A.G., great info. Another good tip that I read, early in my own journey of prepping, is to first prepare for THREE DAYS worth of water/ food & other necessities (medicines, PET SUPPLIES, etc.), then expand to a week, then two weeks, then a month, and so on.
Prepping for the two years that the Bible recommends - or even 2-3 weeks, can be overwhelming, and most of us can't come up with that much money for ONE shopping trip.
Plus, we then contribute to "hoarding"/ panic buying, taking ALL of every item, thus causing strife/ LACK for others. I mean, how many people go and buy ALL of the water/ bread/ toilet paper, etc., they can get their hands-on, before a huge storm comes, leaving NOTHING for those who come behind them?
That is what MANY folks did during c-vid. Despite our self-justifications, such behavior - that literally causes lack/ harm upon OTHERS, is not moral, ethical or spiritual.
YOUR advice to build stocks little by little IS moral, ethical, and spiritual/ righteous!
Also, since I am super-low income (from accident/ injury/ inability to work and accompanying monetary losses), I always shop using flyers, coupons (if available), AND will preferentially go to stores that honor the flyer prices of OTHER stores.
Walmart still does this, I believe, and here in B.C., our SAVE-ON FOODS stores honor all valid flyer prices (you just have to bring the flyers, and help the cashiers by organizing these special-priced goods together, in order of their flyer appearance).
Save-On Foods (and other stores) also have "case-lot sales", and I try to stock-up at those times. They also offer special digital deals (must show the ad on your device), AND have points-cards where you can redeem points to purchase more foods.
Using these strategies has saved me literally HUNDREDS of dollars - if not thousands, by now. I have also used those sales to purchase supplies for my elderly parents. It is totally WORTH "shopping smart".
Cheers, A.G., THANKS for your vids, and kiss to the top of Teddy's nose!
Water filters and trauma kit stop bleed kits also need be gotten soon.
Prep what you’ll eat & comfort foods coffee & chocolate:)
So important for morale!
Yes. I had a chocolate emergency last night when I couldn't find my medicine stash. I did find a stashed butterfinger which calmed me down until I could find my allergy meds.
@@kathrynmannyng3885 huge cocoa shortage so stock up even more then ever. Glad you had ur candy bar
Thx for the encouragement AG !
Hi, AG!!! Great encouragement for preparing!! You have so many great ideas and a ton of wisdom!! Please everyone, listen and stock up for as long as you can……. This world is upside down!!
Have a great weekend, AG AND EVERYONE!!!
I’d like to think we’re old pros at prepping, but there is always more to learn! I love the way she breaks stocking a pantry into small, easy steps.
Thanks for all your help!
There's one problem nobody talks about. Say, you've stocked up on plenty of healthy foods you like. And, suddenly, you develop severe dietary intolerance to not just one but several of those foods. This has just happened to me 😢 You just can't prepare for that. The good thing is, I can still replace those foods with other products. In an SHTF situation, this would be tricky.
Yes, I have become suddenly allergic to some foods late in life, or extra sensitive to additives.
Fortunately you have the benefit of that knowledge now, and still have time to stock up on alternatives. I can’t see the future, but I seriously anticipate civil unrest around election time in the US, no matter which way the axe falls there will be angry potentially violent people…we plan to hunker down out here in the middle of nowhere and, I don’t know, play board games?
You can help others with the food you can no longer eat, or use it as a barter item.
You can give the food you can't eat as gifts to those who can eat/like it.
Most people that don't prep don't worry about prepping because they usually know family or friends that are preparing and their mentality/entitlement is they'll just go to their house.
Despite our best efforts, I fear our youngest and his girlfriend are like that. So frustrating. They know better!
isn't the word "no" such a good word. 2 letters and it says a lot.
@@stuartaminion511 Many don't understand that word. The N or the O
I have a friend that is one of those shop daily folks. She doesn’t keep any stock not even soup and crackers. She says I am coming to your house. But what are you going to contribute is what I want to say? She finally listened to me about tp.

Good Morning AG, Thank you for your ongoing great ideas, guidance and encouragement.. hugs to Teddie : )
Have a water filter even if its a pur pitcher. Start your pantry with stuff you eat. If like us you dont eat Spam dont buy 6 cans of it. Also the freeze dried packages say 72 hour kits tend have a lot of empty calories and or stuff my family wont eat. I m a buy individual meals try them to make sure we like it and than buy more girl. Pricier, not really because if i wont eat half of the food why buy it?
WOW, looking real good Granny. I have been saving used plastic bottles for a long time, to store screws and other hardware and reloading supplies. OH yes beans and rice also. Family think it is waste of time. Do you do Facebook. Have a good day and thank you for sharing.
Excellent video. Thank you. 😊
Thank, good tips. The more people who have something on hand, even starting now, will not only help them but will prevent them desperately asking others to provide to them. It’s smart to have the already cooked and ready to eat foods such as canned beans, precooked pasta and precooked rice . Those already cooked version may cost more but can be a huge help if the power is out. There are some companies that sell the thermoses with solar panels where you can put it in the sun and get hot or boiling water.
Good morning AG!
Hello, hello Louisiana here!!!
Always excellent advice.
Good video, thanks for sharing YAH bless !
The RDA for protein is 50 g per day. That’s about 2 cans of tuna, or 1 larger can of chicken, etc. You need about 6 servings of beans to reach that.
I stockpile lots of tuna. My 3 cats can survive on one can per day with some rice if their food is not available. They also like chicken.
Lately we’ve been on a tuna salad sandwich binge and have gone through several cans, time to top off again! And thank you and bless you for planning for your kitties, I fear that’s often overlooked.
@@susans9491 can tuna is cheapest protein (going up fast). I spent 68 cents 3 years ago, now $1 is a good price.
We use water pack tuna and our old kitty loves the water with a few chunks of tuna. Cat food is getting scarce using can meat liquid could help pets feel fuller.
@@susieramick7202 If you’re in the US try Chewy for cat food. We have been ordering it from them for a few years now and they consistently have it. I got tired of empty shelves during the pandemic nonsense and started getting it delivered to our door.
I cooked for my cats, they were healthy & loved the food. Chicken, livers, gizzard, eggs, fish. No frying or spice. All 4 lived to 18 - 20 years.

Good morning AG ,from Arizona, I noticed that alot of today's generation doesn't care about being prepared, I go into salvation army and Good will and almost new food savers and dehydrator because they don't want to do the work to have things for emergencies and rotate there food, because everything is go to the store or drive thru, didn't covid teach anything ❤❤❤
Sadly I think you are right. Our boys know better, they were raised in a preparedness minded home. Still, I’ll bet the cupboards in their apartments are bare or close to it.
I recommend having some thoughtfully stored powdered and dried foods. Think carefully about the containers you use, will the containers leak or break easily? Is it a good idea to have them all stored in one area?
I finally made my move out of state. I ended up giving away some of my stash because I hired movers and 20-odd boxes of heavy canned goods were just too much when you're paying by weight. I did bring my 25 yr cans and a good amount of basics, but I am having to restock, so this is a timely video for me. I didn't mind giving away the food, but I was upset with myself over all the really out of date foods I found; like 2012. Maybe some of it was good, maybe not, but I wasn't shipping it across state lines to find out.
Lesson learned - rotate your stash! Eat from your stash! It's great to have a supply, but not great to waste money. As LDS, we're asked to have 3 months of food, a year if you can do it. I think at my age 3 months is good (I do a year on paper goods), with some of the 25 yr cans and 3-5 year items like rice. As comforting as it sounds, I don't need 30 cans of kidney beans. 😄
Rotating our stockpiles is so important! I think it also encourages us to be creative with our meal ideas, which very well may become increasingly important.
That's quite a bit of kidney beans...and pasta salad/chili to make with them...
@@kathrynmannyng3885 I make a thick rice and kidney bean soup I found on YT from a guy in Spain who does a lot of easy bean and rice recipes. Sometimes I add a can of chicken, but I'm fine with the veggie version.
Great video, like the norm and thank you.
I started prepping, I think in 2019, and thanks to you and other U tubers, an item gives me great comfort.
My children, r not prepping and I think of them.
Thanks again. 🥰🙏✨❤️🌟☀️🌼
😊Happy Weekend!
Thank you, AG. I'm passing this on to my daughter.
Understand, there are foods you may not care for…..but when your stomach screams for food anything will taste like heaven…do stock up on items that have at least a two years best by date….remember longer is better and at the very least they will in a crisis be worth more then gold, if nothing else for trading purposes.I was born in the 1940s and growing up I talked with veterans from ww2….both from Europe and pacific actions they stated chocolate, cigarettes, spam were the favorites and when hungry spam was king of the world. The soldiers in charge of the food stocks were treated like kings.
To make bread you'll need yeast too
Or use what's floating in the air around you, but I'm guessing the store yeast will taste better 😅
Beer an be used as well ~
I keep my sourdough starter in the fridge, can maintain it once a week or revive it after 2 weeks. I also have yeast in the freezer.
You can make soda bread and soda biscuits.
Yeast freezes very well, and there are sourdough options using wild yeast. And many breads don’t require it anyway.
Honey is a favorite of ours. Costco in our area still sells online ( not in our neatest Costco) 5 Lb. Jugs of Kirkland honey for $17.00. I ordered several and poured it into saved jelly jars. Just passing the info on to those who haven't found it at Costco lately.
Thanks AG .
You have such great ideas. Today, immaking my grocery list. Going thru my pantry i noticed their were some foods that i had not put the best buy (year) date on. Guess I got sidetracked after grocery shopping. I found a pkg dinner from 2020. Im going to make that tonight. Labeling and rotating makes sure your food is the freshest. You have talked about this many times but cant be said too often.
I placed a few bottles of water under each bathroom sink cabinet. In a couple of years, if I dont need them, I can always water the outdoor plants with them. Happy Shopping All!
How long after best by date on the packages of tuna/salmon do you think they are good. I have eaten some after Best Buy date but have wondered about them. They aren’t in a can. Any info is appreciated.
Excellent advice as always AG.👍
TFS, take care & keep really busy everyone.❤🙂🐶

I've been meaning to speak to the various church leaders in our area, to recommend doing this, AND to inform them of the deep research that I've done on "what is happening' in the world (to give them the REASONS WHY this would be a good idea). I tried a few years ago, but the minister never got back to me, and since I was/ have been recovering from serious injuries (hence, my time to DO the deep research), I just dropped it.
